Lady tells me I need ends clipped every FOUR weeks!!! (wtf??)

So I go and get my touch up after a 16 week stretch (new pics in my album, but I have to wait on someone else to take some "good shots" for me and I'll add those in the next day or two)...Anywho, i had already made up my mind that I wouldn't let my stylist clip my ends this time after the disaster last time. After he is done blowdrying and flatironing, he grabs his scissors....I tell him "ummmm, i don't think we will be neededing those; me and your scissors really don't get along well at all - remember last time"? He shows me my ends and says "look at this"...I go "and"....Then he just proceeds to style.

So I dropped by this beauty school today just to get another opinion. There were whites and blacks in there and they do all kinds of hair. I asked if i could speak w/someone about POSSIBLY clipping my ends. They say they will get the director. A nice black lady comes and tells me it's $8 for a dry cut...I tell her I don't want a CUT, just to check if my ends need to be clipped and they haven't been clipped for 16 weeks. First off, I had my hair in a bun and she says "take it down". Then when I take the bobby pins out, her mouth drops and she starts to run her hands all through my hair saying "oh my gosh, why do you have all this beautiful hair pinned up, you should be wearing it down cause it's so pretty!" Then i tell her that i don't want it rubbing all over everything (coat, sweater, etc.) so it's no big deal and i keep it pinned up. Besides it was raining out.......

Then she goes "well you need to get your ends clipped every FOUR WEEKS". She says "they don't look bad, you only need about this much (holding her fingers up looking like about 1/2 inch between her two fingers) taken off)......Then she goes on to tell me that she couldn't do it but one of the students would do it......and i have to sign a release form....I tell her, ummmmm, I think i will just walk next door and do some shopping and if i come back, then we can do business, if i don't, i chickened out....

I ran out the door too fast to see what she said!:grin:

Now how can someone clip their ends EVERY four weeks. Your hair would stay the same length forever!!!

~~~I posted some new pics from my touchup in my album, but i haven't been able to get a really good shot of the back of my head. I'll have some help to take the pics tomorrow, so i will have some better shots them...~~~
I have a friend who is licensed and she says the same thing. You need to clip every month. Guess what her hair is still chin length a year later!!
Try clipping your own ends. I do. I won't let any stylists chop all of my hair off.
Your hair looks very pretty and healthy!!
Thanks DSD:)
Girl there is a Sally's next door to the Beauty School and when I left my house, that's what my intentions were - to go to Sally's and get me some clipping shears. If i mess them up myself, i can't be mad at anybody but me, but I sure as heck won't PAY someone to mess them up! But when I left out of there, she had literally blew my mind:confused: and I didn't even think about Sally's until i got home!
When I was growing out my hair I clipped it every 4 weeks. I've never had a split end in my entire life and that may be becasue I trimmed so often. It really depends on how much growth you get in a month. If you get an inch and trim off 1/4 inch, then you're still left with 3/4 inch.
I'm just addicted to that blunt look and seeing that my hair grows unevenly, then the scissors do the talking.
All that does is guarantee that you'll be seeing her regularly.
EXACTLY. That's the oldest trick in the book. Same with the old slogan: "you MUST get your hair relaxed every 6-8 weeks!" I think it's just a ploy to get customers in the stylists' chair more often than needed.
Trimming your hair every 4 weeks?? HA! That's rubbish! :down: That lady didn't know what she was talking about. :nono: Nobody HAS to get their hair trimmed every 4 weeks. Unless you're doing major heat damage to your hair every week, or putting curling irons to your ends, I dont' see the need to trim every 4 weeks.
Amen to everything said!
This Dominican broad tried to chop & screw me yesterday too, and I was like, um, no thank you. I have been taking VERY good care of my ends plus I checked them the night before to see what they looked like, and I didn't see a single split. They're not thin or frail and I don't have any breakage so I knew she was trying to up the ticket. She ARGUED me down, and then TOLD me she was gonna do it anyway. When trimming time came, she never pulled out any scissors, but I tell you what, if she had insisted on trimmin my hair, we woulda came to blows! I woulda walked out so quick...she wouldn't have paid & she would've never laid eyes on me again.
Sweetcashew,
Girl, you can AFFOR to get trims every two days becuase you get like 10 inches a month! The rest of us are averaging 1/2 inch-3/4. So, if we cut that off 1/2 every month, we'd be dead before we could see any growth! :lachen: :lachen:
But really, you get more than average AND it's beautiful!
Every four weeks? :ill: No wonder stylists don't know anything! A DIRECTOR of a beauty school is teaching them the wrong thing!:mad:
Every four weeks? That's stupid. If you take good care of your hair, I think you should not HAVE to have a trim, except for appearance only.
When I come across stylists talking that trim every __ weeks I say ok and keep it moving. Especially when I know I'm in protective styles 80% of the time. This is the reason I dust my own ends when I feel a trim is in order.
PREACH!!!:grin:
Trimming is only necessary if you want a blunt look or if your ends are jacked up. I ain't trimmed in a year and my hair is still thriving. If only I can learn to relax my own hair, that way I won't have to come in contact with stylists who have not a clue what they talkin'bout:look:
That lady woul hate me because I haven't had a trim since May 2005 and my hair looks great, if I say so myself.
That ***** is looking for any sorry a** reason to be in your head so she can make money off of you. Don't fall for that s**t because it's bulls**t. Enough said.
Oh, don't think i wasn't trying to run the heck out of there as fast as I could when she said that ****!! And when I took my hair pins out of my hair, she started raking her hands through it talking about how i needed to be wearing it down, yada, yada, yada....
Yeah, she thought i was going to fall for the okey doke and sit in the chair..........NOT! (and to think, that's what she is in there teaching her students!)
Girl I know !! I had a stylist keep me at chin / base of neck length for almost 15 months straight. She would always say I am not taking off much---I stayed at chin length for 15 months---my hair never progressed !
BB just curious... what did the director's hair look like? Seems to me that the ones who always want to cut either have jacked up hair or very short hair.
She'd hate me because I havent' haid a cut or anything in 6mos. Yeah, my hair may ben uneven, but its growing, adn to me that is the important part. It will even up whenever the good Lord sees fit.
Triflin....
It was real long and it wasn't real short, but it was framed around her face and it was colored.(like from the crown and curled toward her face) It was healthy though, and it wasn't jacked up.
Some people swear by getting frequent trims but I don't. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". I too keep my hair up 99% of the time so my ends are in good shape. If I see a split end, I immediately take care of it myself and if a stylist looks like she gon' grab the scissors she'd better use 'em on herself.
Im so glad you stood your ground. Not everyone is that firm when it comes to sylists "trimming" their hair.
