Ladies with too much hair...

What are some styles you do when you want to put your hair away? I'm almost two years natural, and I still can not fit all of my hair into a ponytail, and I know length is not the issue. My hair is between CBL and APL. Sometimes I just want to retire my hair for awhile, but not have to do twists or braids to do so.

I haven't been able to do a successful tuck and pin style, because my hair is soooo bulky. Maybe my head is too big, I'm not sure. I wear twists/twist outs most of the time, but I'd like to do a nice protective style or buns.

Is there an alternative? Also, how do you pineapple when you can't fit all your hair into a ponytail holder?

I have ALOT of hair and its biiiiig LOL so the only way I can do a ponytail is when my hair is wet or at least damp. You can also try using fabric headbands instead of elastic ponytail holders.

Why can't you fit your hair into a ponytail if it is long enough for one? How do you stretch your hair? Have you tried the tension method for blow drying? If you aren't staying away from heat that might be a good way to get your hair stretched enough for a juicy bun.

You said ur around CBL....is that WITH shrinkage or while stretched?

I have a lot of hair but i get the best ponytail when i style on wet hair...i double the goody headband around my neck and slide it all the way back to my nape.

My hair shrinks to SL/CBL when its completely dry.

What is your hair texture? I have 4bc thick hair and it takes a bit longer for us to get a good enuf stretch for ponytail w/o heat--about shoulder length. Also, I use a pony sox (like pantyhose) ponytail holder and do not double it around my hair (do not wrap ponytail holder). I'll try n attach a pic if I scan find one.

I've been using these 7" Goody banana clips for a few months now. It does snap sometimes but at least the hair stays in place when it does and one can adjust it easily and discreetly before clipping it again. I'd love to find bigger ones though.

Claire's also has these silicone hairties that aren't too bad if I don't twist the tie at all and just place it on, or if I twist over just once. But they do randomly snap off in time (in my experience) but they do last awhile before they do.

I have course 4a/3c hair.

I'm relaxed, but i think my hair is thick. Not sure anymore, lol. I know that I cant use regular ponytail holders. Too much hair for that. When my hair is wet I put gel on my edges and tie them down until dry. I let the rest of the hair hand as it air dries. Then I take one of these0004145702389_500X500.jpg and I use it as a ponytail holder. It's the only thing I've found large and stretchy enough to hold my hair.

I have WAY too much hair. I make my ponytails when my hair is damp. I prefer to use the Goody silicone ponytail holders. They have a new kind that look like little gummy savers, you don't have to twist it twice.

I also like hair sticks. They are a little tricky to get used to, but they are quick & easy.

Try using water and a brush to help lay things down so you can put it in a ponytail. Headbands help hide lumps and bulges also.

It's a course/dense hair issue. I am only SL and I have come across this issue. I just use fabric scrunches and/or let my hair continuing drying while damp in a ponytail

I knew I couldn't be alone in this. Even as a natural, I have not been even to make those puffs that look like ponytails.

I've tried the headbands, but they are so big and you have to wrap it a lot. The silicone ties sound like the next best thing. Are they sold everywhere? I will also keep all your tips in mind.

I just have extremely dense hair. I dont use heat, but the only way to be able to do it effortlessly would be to flatiron or blow dry my hair.

I get mine from CVS or Meijer. They are available at just about all drug stores though. I tried to find a picture, but couldn't.

When my hair isn't blowdried or if its damp, it is damn near impossible to fit it in a regular ponytail holder:sad:.

I use an old black stocking , either knee high or I cut the pantyhose to about 1/3 of the leg. Then I stretch and wrap the stocking around and around where I am holding my ponytail and finally tie the ends. Nothing works better than or even close to the stocking trick for me...NOTHING!

The stocking doesn't snag my hair and it will keep a tight neat grip on the hair no matter the amount of shrinkage...with no slipping, all day long! Sometimes I don't even have to tie the ends...it's that good :yep:.

Give it a try OP ;-)

I've been natural for 16 months, my hair texture and length is similar to yours so I understand the struggle of the 'thickness' lol

I either twist it into large twists to stretch it before I attempt to put it into a ponytail (this is if it's wet) or I use a knee-high or piece of stocking and pull it into a puff until it resembles a ponytail.

Hope this part makes sense, but I have to pull my hair into a ponytail in sections. For instance, if I'm wearing a low ponytail I start with the back section first. Once I have that secure in my hand I gather more hair into the ponytail until I have it all in.

I always feel like I have worked out when I try to put my dry hair in a ponytail. I found it is easier to just wet it.

I will try that! I need both my hands to gather all my hair, for this hair I wouldn't mind if I have three arms for the extra help :p

So stockings/panty hose must truly work. Definitely going to give it a try.
