I just found this info. yesterday. I googled the question "hot comb pressing tips" and found online book info. from the Milady Cosmetology book. Click here: http://books.google.com/books?id=4G...1azuBg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1

and then scroll up to page 412. (It won't let me copy and paste) You'll see on that page how to "temper" a comb and how to clean it. Good Stuff!

You must give me tips on how you press your hair and what you use (pressing creams, protectants, etc) 'cause I bought a comb and stove.

Hey guys! I am a faithful presser for my ENTIRE life, I Blowdry and but a little chi silk on it, then use Dudley's pressing cream. I put it all over as I would the chi silk and two make a great barrier for heat damage on my hair. I am a straightened natural and pressing is the best thing for me. Although I use my flat iron when Im in a rush I would prefer to use my pressing comb!

I use a brillo pad, but after a while gunk builds up between the teeth so then I'll soak it in some marcel iron cleaner for a while then soak it in boiling hot water. If I'm lazy I'll just run hot water on high pressure over the soaked hot comb.

I clean my hot comb before each usage by heating the comb and dipping it in 2 parts water to 1 part rubbing alcohol.

I dont mean to hi-jack this thread but i was thinking of this same thing this morning... for you pressing girls....what type of pressing combs are you using? Electric or Stove? And where would be a good place to get one? TIA

The type of pressing comb I use is the one you put in the stove. I've been using it for years and I think they work really good IMO but just be careful not to leave it in the stove too long. I purchased my comb at my local beauty supply store. The brand I have is Golden Supreme, HTH.

I use the stove hot comb only. They are better for my hair. I use brands by Kizure and Golden Supreme. You can purchase online; they both have websites. They are also sold in beauty supply stores.

Easy Off Oven Cleaner or any off brand oven cleaner from the 99 cents store. I let them marinate in my back yard for about 30 minutes to an hour. Then I put them in soapy (detergent) water, and I use a tool brush to get between the teeth. They look like brand new pressing combs. :superbanana:
