Ladies who don't avoid the rain?

Sometimes I really don't care about avoiding drizzle, particularly if I'm cold and want to keep my forearms in my sleeves .

I've noticed though, that there's friction/snags when I fingercomb my hair, or that my roots end up damn near matted.

When rain is unavoidable, what do you do when you get home?

I got caught in a drizzle when my hair was flatironed. I quickly went home and used a little oil then proceeded to wrap my hair. My roots became straight.

I love the rain and I almost never worry about my hair getting wet. I mean if it is coming down really hard and/or I am going to be outside for a while I may pull up an umbrella. But usually I just get wet. However, I have not noticed any adverse effects on my hair. Maybe you could add some conditioner to your hair once you get home and put it in a braid while it dries.

I normally just walk through it. I will put my hood up if my hair is straight, or use an umbrella, but I try not to staighten it if its going to rain. I do not run through the rain... I would rather get wet than fall on my face.

The rain doesn't do anything stange to my hair, It might actually like rain water better because it is free of chlorine.

i dont have s prob if my Hair is in twists or if its the end of the day when i have a twistout. Getting my twistout wet though in the morning sucks, but I normally forget or lose my umbrella, so I usually just put it up in a puff, to salvage the style and just re-twist when I get home.

when i was relaxed I didnt have a prob with rain, I rarely wore curly styles that wud be ruined my rain.

I like a nice drizzle so I usually just keep on moving. If its raining really hard and my hair is straight I become a big baby lol. Refusing to go out because I don't want to flat iron when I get home

My hair is natural but I never avoided a few minutes of light rain coz of my hair even when it was relaxed. If I stay out of heavy rain it's coz I'm protecting my clothes and my shoes, etc. I find that rain or humidity makes my hair feel softer.

If I just got my hair flat iron, which is not often, I will try to avoid the slightest drizzle LOL

Any other styles, I could care less about getting wet.

Heh, one of my motivations for going natural was so I would no longer feel controlled or impeded by nature. It seems so unnatural (literally!) to fear water for the sake of "beauty maintenance".

If it's drizzling, I don't mind not having an umbrella--I only apply heat once a month or so. I smile at the rainy weather because it means my hair gets a bit more moisture, and on wash days (wednesdays, sundays) when it rains, i'm almost down-right giddy about it.

But when it's all-out down-pour raining, I like having an umbrella. Because that's no fun, to be cold AND wet. not a good look. natural or not. <3

I'm pretty sure it's for everybody. I remember when I was younger/ applied heat a lot more often, I would do the MOST to avoid even a smidge of wetness. AND I'm from the midwest. HUMIDITY AT 100% in the SUMMER?? WHAT?!? ! Honey it was a trial. <3

I usually pack a scarf and a shower cap when its raining and i put all of that underneath a hat LOL me and rain are NOT friends

Even pre-LHCF, I've never ran from the rain because of my hair. I used to look at ladies squealing and screeching over a little drizzle and go.....um... really?

Now, rain water + a little bit of NTM = soft, moisturize hair

I always carry a ponytail holder with me, so if I get caught in the rain I have a back up.

Even as a relaxed head I rarely run from the rain. I usually leave a lil condish in my hair and when I get caught in the rain, voila! Instant mini moisture session! Then I go home a seal my ends ;-)

Makes sense because when my hair dries after being rained on, it's very soft and a little poofy. I love it!

I use an umbrella immediately. I don't want to get wet in the rain so that's part of the reason. I don't wear rain gear. Also if I have some sort of a style which would get ruined by water, I most certainly would get my umbrella out (which I carry with me everywhere).

Im a little confused. People say this is what they dont miss about being relaxed but Im pretty sure getting natural pressed hair wet is way worse than getting relaxed hair wet.

@bb09, if my hair is loose, there's not a morning or night that I do not comb it, so rain wouldn't bother me at all. I'd be like I'd just washed my hair so I'd just comb it like I do when I got home with S Curl for slip already on it, and then braid it for the night. I would never finger comb my hair if it were loose.

@SuchaLady, how often do naturals wear straight hair? Most do it seldom. I personally wore straight hair for a week in 2004, another week end of 2006 or beginning of 2007, and in April 2009. The rest of the time, my hair has been braided, twisted, and combed out in a puff or in a twist-out which gets retwisted that night...so rain doesn't really bother me at all. If my hair were loose and got drenched like someone poured a bucket of water over my head and it were loose, I'd probably finger part and braid it when I got home. CW in braids and then airdry in braids to stretch and life would be back to normal. Only reason I'd CW is I'd feel icky if my hair got drenched so would feel a wash was in order. Otherwise just a drizzle? Meh.

When I had relaxed hair, I had to style it daily. I couldn't live this lazy lifestyle I live today and if it got rained, it'd be a whole song and dance once I got home to get it back to normal. So yes, for me natural hair is so much easier in the rain than relaxed.

I don't run from rain at all. If I get caught in the rain, I just spray it with leave-in, wrap it, then put a scarf on when I get home. I let it dry that way and then I comb it back out. My hair is good as new again!

I only run when it's straight, which isn't very often, and sometimes when I've just undone my twists and it's just pouring down outside, I will run. But drizzling? Nah.

Nonie well the naturals I know in real life wear their hair straight way more than most naturals on LHCF. And when it rains you can clearly spot them out. Trying to dodge raindrops and what not.

@SuchaLady, yes, I gathered from your post that you were only focusing on straightened hair because you stated it. But you were confused about why naturals say that avoiding the rain is one thing that they don't miss about being relaxed. So my post was in response to your confusion. I was telling you that we say that because when we were relaxed, there was never a day when we could be OK in the rain, while when natural we have MANY days when we can OK in the rain since we have many more options of wearing our hair besides just straight. Those who make the statement that confuses you are those who seldom wear their hair straight which means they only worry about the rain once in a blue moon.

I'll respond more thoroughly when I don't have to go to bed, but I'm getting the gist that I can just respray my hair then scarf it down.

I'll find the exact post to quote tomorrow, but I'm relaxed. I do think rain would be worse for natural rather than relaxed hair -JMO, because of how my roots get once the rain water's dried, and shrinkage.
