How long does it take to do your hair? I mean the works, like deep conditioning and drying time. I wash my hair and deep condition for a good two hrs. with a towel over my head once a week. I went back to doing this b/c I see my hair responds well to it. In the meantime, I wash my clothes, clean the bathroom, relax, etc. Well, my hating mother snidely remarks that I will have to get my priorities straight when I get older when I have kids and have to work full time etc. etc. I think she's just hating cause she's a bald bytch . She never has anything nice to say really. Granted, when I have kids and a husband, momma will still have to look good ;) and I find therapy in doing my hair. I devote time to my hair once a week. I figure, when I have kids, the conditioner should be able to sit on my hair for a good two hours while im tending to them and other domestic duties. I find it relaxing doing my hair, not really a chore. Rollersetting is more of a chore, but I usually airdry in 4 ponytails, now that takes time :ohwell:

It really doesn't take me that long at all. Friday evenings are a more convenient time for me to wash, deep condition, and rollerset my hair. I do that after we have eaten and cleaned up. Its my time for myself and its only one night a week, its really not that hard.

It takes me a very long time to get my wig done. I used to pre-wash, don't anymore. I now wash, deep condition (at least 20 minutes under the dryer), rinse, roller set ( at least 1/2 hour putting in rollers), dry (at least 1.5 hours under dryer) THEN I still have to blow my roots.

Although, I have gotten much quicker at doing my hair (I think that in a crunch, I can get it washed and completely dried in about 4 hours), my hubby is quite helpful. He KNOWS that I spend all of my free time with our son, or doing things around the house, so my hairwashing days are considered "mommy" time.

Married mother of an eight-month old chiming in ...

I never really get to do my hair in one solid chunk of time. For example, last night I retouched my texturizer (with DH's assistance) and deep conditioned under a heating cap. I didn't have time to let my hair dry and proceed to style (two-strand twist) as I normally would. Hell, by then it was time for me to go to bed to get ready for work the next morning. I imagine that if I did have time to do "the works" to my hair in one sitting, it would take about four hours or more. That's primarily because I let my hair air dry. I haven't used a dryer in almost two years.

Right now my hair is way easy to handle but before i cut off my relaxer I spent about an hour washing and drying my hair. When i rollerset it instead of blowdrying that was still about an hour and 15 minutes from detangling, shampooing, deep condition detangle after rinsing out shampoo and rollersetting-- I airdried and would sleep in rollers.. so i dont even count all the time it took for my hair to completely dry. On a daily basis it probably took me 2-3 minutes to do my hair because i would just wear it in a bun from the night before and in the morning i would just smooth my hair down and go. Or i would take my bun down and wear my hair down in a ponytail -- this took about 3-5 minutes.

With my husband, son and me all having to leave out the house within 30 minutes of each other -- hubby for work and me and my son each have school, there just isnt enough time for the works unless i wake up at dawn.

For my daily routine I have to get my 5 y/o son up and ready in the morning get his breakfast made, make sure he brushes his teeth and washes his face stay after him to please get dressed instead of dawdling, run outside to start warming up the car, run back in and wash my face and brush my teeth right quick, wake up my husband, get my son into the car and drive him to school, then when i get back hook hubby up with bacon and eggs while he's shaving or taking a shower, then while he's eating i get dressed --this is where i do my hair right quick-- grab my books and we're out the door. -- jainygirl

Don't worry about it. If you have a supportive SO, you will be able to find time. I have a supportive SO and it doesn't matter what I do. He is there for me and understands that if I look good, he looks good. Now if I could only get him to understand the credit card bills!!!!!! :lachen:

I have a 11 year old and a 9 year old who both have many extra curricular activities. Even with our busy schedules I wash my hair twice a week, Wed and Sat. These are the nights I have a big enough block of time to get things done. On Wed. nights I wash, condition, moisturize and put into a ponytail or bun to air dry. All together takes me about hour and a half.

On Sat. nights I wash, condition, deep condtion and air dry. Since there's no work the next day it doesn't matter to me when I get this done because I can sleep later on Sun.

I make sure everyone has eaten, the dogs have gone out for the fianl time and then I take care of my hair needs. Its easier if I have all of that out of the way so no one is bugging me while I'm trying to do all of this. I have been doing this for so long that my husband and kids are used to my routine.

Oh lawd ... I thought it got easier when the children got older ...
I don't think so...my son is the same age as yours and he's already got me rippin' and runnin' to classes. And wouldn't you know that the class is a swim class. I expected to just stand, wade, not have the other children, kicking, splashing...y'all know I ain't happy about that, cuz it takes absolutely way too much time to keep my wig perfectly coifed.

Man! I am glad we are stopping at one!

I'm married with 4 children ages 13, 11, 8 and 5 months and i can do my hair while my 5 month is in her swing or my older children play with her. My DH is in Iraq so I don't have his help right now, but when he returns he'll be watching the lil one. At night when I get my hair ready she's usually asleep.

Its just my hubby and our 13 year old daughter.
They both go to bed everynight at 9pm. I do everything then. It takes me about 2 hours washing, deep condition and blowdrying. If aairdrying then only an hour.
Sometimes if I have a lot to do, I will wash hair, put in conditioner, leave plastic cap while I do everything and rinse later.

I have a 2 1/2 yr old and a hubby. The weekends are mine and her hair days. I usually wash, condition or whatever to her hair on Sundays, so she's ready for preschool for the week. Most of the time, I do my hair at night, starting around 6-7pm so I can do the dishes, wash clothes, clean her room, etc, while I deep condition, then it's time to jump in the shower, wash my hair and body all at once. Once I'm out, I will either roller set, cornroll or slick my hair for a bun. I try to keep it as simple as possible, especially when I'm doing my hair during the week. Now on the weekends, I may get a little bit more extravagant(sp),esp since I dont have to work the next day. It can be done!!!

I have a 3 year old and I usually wash my hair on the weekends after he has gone to sleep, or while he is playing. He doesnt get in the way often.

You can ALWAYS find time to do your hair. What husband/child can't spare you for 3-4 hours?

EXACTLY! :D
It seems everyone here has spared a few hrs. to tend to thier locks :D

Saturday night is my time. No interruptions after my little one is in bed. It takes me about 2 hours total.

I have two daughters, 7 and 3. They are both hair conscious. My little one like barrettes and clips to match her outfits. SO I braid her hair into ponytails, that way I don't have to comb and brush it every day. But I do wash and rebraid her hair every weekend (too much dirt and sand not to). My 7 yo likes mini-braids, mini twists, or braids with beads. These can be left in for up to a month or longer if they don't look tore up. But She can style themin the morning with various clips, hairpins, etc.

As for me. When I do my really do my hair, it takes me the entire weekend. I usually wear it in mini braids or twists, which last me 4-8 weeks. Friday night, I take the braids or twists out and detangle with my hands. Saturday am, I pretreat with protien treatment, wash, detangle, and deep condition. Then I rinse and plait so it can air dry.

While still slightly damp, I put in moistourizer. Then I wear it out on Sunday, I spend Sunday night twisting or braiding it back up.

In between, it's a piece of cake. I wash once a week with Power Wash shampoo, do a conditioner rinse, and use a leave in and moisturizer.

I have my two babies my son is 6 years old and my daugther is 2 years old. It seems like I always have had hair time. I have arrange someone to watch the kids when I went to the salon or when I am getting my hair braided. When I have my hair out my kids are watching The Lion King or some kiddie show. So I have an hour to myself to wash and deep condition they somehow know that Mommy has to have her hair time.

I have a 4 yr old... she doesn't bother me once i'm doing my hair. She knows that it's mommy time. Although i make sure everything is done pertaining her (ie. books, bath, playtime, etc.) b4 i even begin my hair. My SO knows, don't mess with me during that time (but again, i make sure he's been 'handled' b4 i begin ;) )
Jump in shower, wash hair, protein treatment, dryer 15 mins.
Jump back in shower, rinse, moisturizing conditioner, plastic cap, exfolliate, shave, wash body, whatever. Rinse.
Rollerset (45 mins), dryer (45 mins). Remove rollers, doobie. Total time spent on doing hair - TOO DAMN LONG!

If i don't rollerset, i just plait in 2-5 braids for sleeping.
My hair takes damn near 3 days fully dry... so i run the blow dryer over it to speed up the process.
Wkends work best for me when it comes to doing my hair.

Due to my busy schedule, I have to wait until the weekends on a late evening- usually Sunday, before I do my hair. I have a 2 year old son who is highly active. I am also married and have other household responsibilities to take care of . Therefore, my routine is usually, shampoo, condition for about 15-20 minutes, rinse, wrap or airdry, and sometimes flat iron. I try to wear a bun throughout the week as I don't have a lot of time to dote on my hair.
