Hair Coach
Hi everyone!

This is sort of hard for me because I am used to being the one to cheer everyone on and give support. Please bare with me.

I absolutely love the Phyto Relaxer. I will be sticking with it for the long haul.

I recently attempted to put a rinse in my hair using the jazzing hair color. I followed the directions and did everything I was supposed to do. It was all pretty for about a week and then all of a sudden my hair started drying out really badly.

It started breaking on the ends and even shedding more that normal. This was about 6 weeks ago.

My problem is, I have tried everything to stop the breakage but it continues to do so. Everytime I comb my hair a little comes out. When I blowdry more comes out. This is my first time ever having these types of problems.

What am I supposed to do? Please help me get this problem under control.

Another thing. All of the hair that had grown in my nape area is broken off again. It's now only about an inch long. I was sad at first but now I am dealing with it. That was a hard because it had caught up with the rest of my hair.

What kind of moisturizing conditioner have you been using to date? Maybe you should try something else in terms of a new moisturizing conditioner. I hope you find something.

ETA: I forgot to add that when everything fails, I would head to a stylist and tell her/him what has happened and maybe he/she would give you a treatment to slow or stop the breakage.

Awwwww DSD, I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

I don't really have any specific advice, because I'm sure you've tried everything that I'd suggest. :ohwell: I've used Jazzing before and I also thought that it was a little drying. I prefer Sebastian's colorshines best.

Don't worry, it will get better. Someone will come along with some great advice and you'll be all fixed up in no time. :yep:

Oh yeah, can you give us a "run-down" of all the products that you've tried. thanks

I agree about trying something new. And when my hair decides it wants to be rebel and break when I comb it, I usually just don't comb it.

I'm sorry to hear this DSD. You're always giving such great advice and support for everyone. From what it sounds, it's the hair color. I'm sure you are already deep conditioning and moisturizing. I'd probably get into some braids and keep them super moisturized. At least that will keep the manipulation and heat down.

Aww.... sorry DSD!!! :Rose:

Have you tried any protein treatments? Garlic shampoo perhaps? That might help out...

I know it's a setback, however, if you grew the nape area out before, with some TLC, it'll grow back again and so will the rest of your hair.

I can relate. I used jazzing a few years ago and it made my hair hard, and that is why I never used it again. I agree with the suggestion on using a moisturizing conditioner. Try Keraphix or Nexxus Emergencee to stop the breakage immediately. You might have to give your ends a light dusting and keep them well protected. Less manipulation on the hair. Keep us posted!!!

Hey DSD!

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing these problems. Are you doing pre-shampoo hot oil treatments? Have you tried the honey and olive oil one? Perhaps using a conditioner that helps restore elasticity (i.e. LeKair Cholesterol) followed by a moisturizing conditioner.

Try going back to the basics that got your hair so beautiful in the first place.

Just a few things I thought of...

I hope everything gets back to normal. **hugs***

I know what thats like!

Have you tried Motions CPR shampoo and conditioner?
It's a tad drying so I would follow up with Motions regular condioner and use Elasta QP Recovery every night before I go to bed, it works wonders under my sleeping cap).
It REALLY helped me when my hair was breaking off in chunks!

Thanks everyone. Your support means the world. I have tried all the treatments you mentioned. Execpt, Tigerlily suggested the garlic shampoo. I haven't tried that.

My routine:

I was and deep condition once a week with either Lekair Cholesterol or Elucence Moisture balance.

I alway do a pre poo EVOO Treatment.

I always detangle in sections with M n T Detangler.

I apply a leave in after detangling.

I am gentle with my hair.

I moisture with mango butter and add oil or use Vitapoint as a daily conditioner.

I wear low manipulation hair styles such as buns and bantu sets.

I have done the treatments that are supposed to stop hair breakage and it won't stop. I am so dumfounded by this situation. Maybe I need to do daily deep conditionings until my hair get back to normal.

Kristina: I also like your idea of braiding it up and keeping it super moisturized.

Oh DSD I am so sorry to hear about your problem. Hang in there and you will recover soon. I know someone on this board has experienced and recovered from a jazzing incident and will give you good advice. Relaxers and heat have done this to my hair too many times to count and everytime I was devastated. I'm just so sad. Do you think you got a bad batch of jazzing? Was this your first time using a rinse? Oh I wish I could help you with some great advice but I don't have any. Good luck DSD.:Rose:

Maybe I did get a bad batch. I have used rinses in the past with no problems. I think I will stick with my colourshines from now on. Thanks!

DSD I'm so sorry you had this setback. The only thing I can recommend is what's worked for me (if you haven't already tried it). Wash your hair with your choic of shampoo then drench it with Nexxus Emergencee. Keep a cap on your head for about 30 minutes then rinse it out and follow with an ultra-moisturizing conditioner like Kenra MC. Good luck!

Maybe that's too much protein for your hair? I try to avoid leave-ins and moisturizers with protein in them.
I never thought of that. I figured since I don't use it as much it didn't harm anything. I will cease using the mnt to see what happens. Thanks!

DSD, I'm sorry to hear this. Your definitely keep the rest of us inspired.

I'm a Colourshines girl for just this reason. Years ago a stylist told me not use Jazzing because I already had dry hair and it had a tendancy to exacerbate the condition. Your case does sound extreme though so possible there was something wrong with it as well.

You say you wash weekely, do you mean with poo? If so, I'd try conditioner washing until the problem gets under control. Also, what sort of leave in are you using? Try to find one that really moisturizes, not just softens. I love Salerm, but when my hair is uber thirsty I break out the Keracare which really seems to lock in moisture.

Hmmm, is this a protein reconstructor? If so, how strong is it?

I use NTM silk touch leave in. I wash with Elucence Moisture Benefits shampoo.

DSD, I'm sorry to hear about your mishap:Rose:... I feel your pain when it comes to the nape & not knowing what to do...
I agree with TigerLily! Try the Garlic Cream... Garlic is know to help with breakage... There is also am oil that you can use. It's a strong smell so use it as a deep conditioner. I mix my Garlic Cream/Oil with my Cholesterol Cream. Is the Jazzing a protein treatment? If it's drying combat it with lots of moisture.
Even Scurl until the drying has subsided.

DSD I'm sorry you're having problems. The onlything I know to suggest is the BBD Stretch. It has always stopped my breakage and restored moisture.

DSD sorry for the set back, but I have faith in your skills that you will over come this problem. Here's a treatment I found on MUA and I've used it twice with good results. Each time I used it, my hair felt stronger and I had less breakage.

At first, sorry for my bad English but i am from Belgium and we do speak Dutch en French.... When you are a model your hair is just sompthing that has to look nice for te picture and after that... that's your problem, they think. I have normaly almost black hair with a huge wave pattern and it had to become white (platina) en straight as a board. Solution they gave me: dye it blond and relax it! = the 2 most damiging things you can do to your hair. I think i do not have to say how my hair looked. Straw, totally dameged. Never seen sompthing that dead! No problem said the hair dresser. I wil repair it. And he did! How? At first you wash your hair with a deep cleansing shampoo (from redken), then you aply redken extreme shampoo (not the blue bottle with the pink shampoo but the new blue bottle with the white shampoo in it!- old extreme shampoo was bad and drying. The new one is really, really good) After 5 min you rinse your hair en make it towel dry. Next step: blend this product (deep fuel) with emergencee from nexxus. Do a shower cap and make it hot with a blow dryer (half an hour)Remove the shower cap, -do not rinse- spray addictive hair transformer on it, put you shower cap on and blow dry until your hair is dry. Then rinse. Make it again towel dry en put keraphix (nexxus) on your hair. Let this dry over night. Repeat this in two weeks 5 times. It is a hard job to do, but i promis you: your hair will be saved even if you have done things to your hair as i do. Don't use all soft heavy cream, kerastase oleo relax or masquintense or other softeners when your hair is DAMAGED. (they or good for not overprocessed very dry hair) Indeed they make your hair soft, but they WON'T repair it! Al the products i have been given are very repairing and also moistering. Try it. Your hair will be in the best condition ever. I have to admit that it is pricey, but totally a HAIR SAVER!
