Hello All,

I am a bit disappointed in myself L but I can only blame myself.
I joined LHF in 2006 starting at shoulder length and just feel like I should have made my goal length (MBL) or at least close to it by now. Boy does time fly! Lol.

But I am jumping back on the wagon and I am going to stay on track this time because I did notice the progress when remaining consistent.
I was and still am relaxed and I want to convert to being natural.
I stretched out my last relaxer for 6 months but I ran into issues with the different textures, my biggest issue was my hair was tangling into knots so I gave it up and threw on the creamy crack but now I plan on trying at it again. My last relaxer was April/May and I plan on not relaxing again.
Sooooooooo to get to the point, I just wanted to create this post to get some good advice from you all and see what’s hot on the market for hairgrowth and maintenance !

Let me start by telling you what I experimented with and so forth and you can give me your opinions.

MTG for hair growth – Was messy but it worked, are you ladies still using this ? If not what did you replace this with and why ?

Vitamins – Fish Oil, Biotin, MSN, GNC UltraHairNourish. I also tried Shen Min Hair nutrient from GNC but I may change that once I compare the ingredients to Hairfinity.

Products – Please tell me what works for transitioning hair as far as conditioning, moisturizing and de-tangling and especially something that softens curls.

Protective Styling – lace fronts and occasionally weave with glue but I use the GPS( Growth Proctective Serum aka “Glueless Weave” )

Thank You in advance , I know this is a little lengthy so I am going to stop here as I feel this alone will be good to start with.
If you see or feel I am missing something, please let me know.

Oh yeah and I know I need to take some hair pics and put them up I plan on updating that soon, my signature is also outdated.:perplexed

When I did try MTG, the smell and the runny oil is what turned me away from it. I used BT instead.

Try adding oils to your current conditoners to help you duriing your transition and just use a really good leave in to help you detangle. Scurl is a go to product for alot of transitioners when it comes down to moisturizing. I hope this helps you out.

Adding Aloe Vera Juice to everything helps greatly with tangles.

every considered protective styling (braids) to help grow your hair to a point where you can BC comfortably?

There is a thread here floating around called the relaxed hair thread. its got a compilation of links to all different kinds of topics on relaxed hair that will answer ur questions

Thanks everyone for your suggestions I really appreciate it, and I also apologize for the late response.

westNDNbeauty I have fine hair and braids do more damage than good for me and I also have seen what they can do to people's hair that get them too frequently like 'alopecia' from being braided too tight and often. But I will continue to just do some searching in these threads because there is a wealth of information out here. :)

I did not know it at the time of my transition from relaxed to natural hair, but aloe vera juice works wonders with tangles! I probably would not have done 2 mini chops (my hair hit BSL during my transition) if I had been using aloe vera juice on my hair.

Before my transition, I went 18 weeks and 3 days without a relaxer so I know what you are experiencing with the different textures and tangles. I also have fine hair, type 4a now that I am natural.

I never tried MTG for hair growth. I tried Megatek and am not sure if it worked or not. I experienced headaches when using it so I stopped. I do not take any vitamins. I also do not average 1/2 inch per month like some people. My growth rate was 4 inches in 10 months when I last measured.

As for products, everything works differently for everyone but I like creme of nature for shampoo (if I am using a sulfate product) and I like WEN Fig for a cowashing conditioner as well as Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose conditioner. I use Giovanni Smooth as Silk (protein conditioner) for my steam treatments and deep conditioning, unless I am doing a flat iron in which case I use Silk Elements Megasilk moisturizing conditioner.

My leave-in is a mix of Aussie Moist conditioner, castor oil, jojoba oil and aloe vera juice. Other people use a similar combination (search for Kimmaytube leave-in) but with a different conditioner as the base. It has worked well for me for well over a year.

Protective Styling – I used a lot of half wigs (straight ones at first and then curly ones) and I used lace front wigs (no glue and no tape) as well as having some cornrows and curly twists installed later into my transition. Once I took out the curly twists (after 9 weeks) it had been 2 years since my transition and I saw no more relaxed ends.

Good Luck!
