All I know is, when I was washing my hair every two weeks to a month, my hair never got past shoulder length. After reading Cathy Howses book (encourages washing hair every 3 days) and finding LHCF, I began to cowash 1-2x a week. My hair is now APL.

I can't stress this enough...do not make judgements on your hair care based on other people's opinions. Do what you want with your hair and make your OWN assessments based off your experience. Had I listened to your friends stylist- I'd still be shoulder length.

So to the stylist I say, please just style. My hair's health is in my hand, not yours and thank goodness for that.

Yeah before I knew better I had a hairdresser who used to tell me that if I used Brown gel it would straighten my texture... because get this... it has relaxer in it. LOL.

Oh and another one who told me that it was perfectly ok for my hair to "train" to a press and that the burning smell I was smelling and the smoke I was seeing was just my hair "learning how to lay down"....

Oh yeah and another one who told me that used to braid my hair so tight that I would have white bumps on my scalp and she would tell me "dont worry thats what grows your hair... yo have to pull it for it to grow".

Yeah... people who do hair in kitchens sure do know a lot about hair hunh?

Welll...she wasn't all wrong. That smoke tends to be the sight and smell of hair dying a slow, sure death.
And dead things do tend to lay down. And never get back up again. :look:

The level of mythology, misinformation and downright ignorance to healthy hair care in our community really saddens me:nono:

We really have to do our best to pay it forward yall....seriously.

If theres one thing I want to change its for black women to know they can wash their hair whenever they please.

Sigh!! Me too! This is the one thing I wish I could impress upon more black women. Why are we the only race of people that are supposed to walk around with dirty hair!!?? Water= moisture, it's so simple. So many of us a testament to this.

Just friggin priceless - NEVA gain will these charlatans come within an inch of my head. I can DC and style rings around these idiots and I have no formal training.

You would be suprised at how many "stylists" have no formal training in haircare!

At a time when my hair was natural, I had a stylist tell me the only way she could tong my hair would be to relax it first :perplexed I repied by stating that if that was the case, I'd better return to the salon and stylist that did it for me the previous week :look: she then wanted to get her hands up in my hair to feel the texture
