This is only the secod time I've posted about my hair. Usually, I just read other people's posts to find a similar situation. It's just this time I need to vent. I just came from my hair dresser. This is only second time I went to her. I just switched. It's a long story. But anyway. She said something I was dreading. She basically told me I should cut my hair to the length of the broken pieces in the middle of my hair. She said if it was her she would do it. The middle of my hair my hair has broken over to be about 1/4 inch. She said that I should start over because it's dead hair and it will grow slow. But if I cut over ALL of my hair to the shortest length then my hair will grow faster than if I don't do it.

She said I should do what she says not what I think is right. She implied if I had my hair would not be breaking as bad.

I think I figured out why this occurred. I have been putting rollers regularly at not without moisturizing. So I put undue stress in the middle.
I asked my hairdresser if me not putting moisture in my hair can help it to break. She said no. I just needed to oil my hair. I just don't get why I have to cut all my hair off. It's just the middle that is broken. I thought if I nurse the middle it will be fine. Is rosemary oil good for hair that is broken off. Or is it coconut oil. If so where can i get some

I had a question. How often are you suppose to apply moisturizer to you hair. Is it early in the morning before you style it and/or at night before you wrap you hair. Is it then you seal it with oil? Is greasing your hear once a week ok.

HOw much is needed? Do you apply it to your hair or scalp.

I know I'm asking a lot of questions. But if there is chance I can save my hair , I'll take that chance.
I looked at the list of moisturizers and oils. Is S-curl moisturizer good?

Oh yeah, one more question. IF you exercise, do you apply moisturizer before you workout or after. I was told that sweat drys out your hair and you should moisturize after.
Do I really have to cut off my hair?

Any help would be well appreciated.

Cut your hair and oil your hair? I think you need to find another stylist pronto. You shouldnt haev to cut off al your hair to get it to grow. I think you shoudl find out whats causign the breakage PRONTO! Then work on that. Keep up your trims and make sure youre doing what you need to be doing.

I had a similar problem last year when I joined. My hair had broken off to 1/4 inch in the back. I contemplated cutting everything off at the back. I didn't. Instead, I trimmed my edges and began my hair journey. I am glad I didn't cut. The back is catching up, and the rest of my hair is gowing nicely, although slowly.

I agree with beyond and matuncks. There is no need to cut your hair, find out what the problem is, and make moves to correct it.

about the moisturizer...

it all depends on your hair, some people need to moisturize twice a day, everyday. others every other day. if you hair is feeling brittle and dry...then moisturize...i would follow with oil to seal the ends.

S-curl moisturizer is good, but not necessarily for everyone. its a test & trial when your first starting off to see what works for you

its ok to grease your scalp once a week...i dont use grease so i dont have much advice on that, but im sure another member can help you with that.

HTH
goodluck

ITA w/the other gals here. Such a drastic cut for only one area of breakage seems too extreme. Ive had broken areas as well in the past, and i just nurse that back to health until that area slowly regains its length and thickness. :) Although those pieces may not reach the same length as the other hair anytime soon, once it is long enough it just blends in with the rest of the hair.

Your stylist is tripping.

Girl she needs to stop it with the bad advice! This is why I dont trust no daggone stylists! They're the devil in disguises :angeldevi (well some of them at least;) ) Get rid of her not the hair. Now I do agree that if the area is THAT bad then a trim would be necessary, but hol up...ITS ONLY 1/4 OF AN INCH. Yeah she trippin'! She wants you to cut ALL your hair up to a quarter of an inch. Dont listen to her. I'm co-signing with the other ladies and saying that nursing it back to health would be your best option right now.:)

I apply moisture to my hair once per day before I go to sleep. I only use oil to seal in the moisture. After exercising I usually co-wash to get rid of the sweat and stuff. But I dont work out everyday...maybe three or four times per week.:look:

Kini, your are soooo pretty!!

Agreed with the other ladies. You need a stylist thats focused on your hair health and not so stubborn that they are telling you to cut everything off and not offering any other alternatives. I'm sure there are plenty of protective styles that you can do while you nurture that area. Just curious.....your stylist, how does her hair look??

Count me in with the other ladies, too. Why is it that most (not all, but most) hairdressers want to cut our hair?

A 1/4 of an inch of breakage doesn't seem like a lot. Nurse it back to health, your hair will still grow.

As for moisturizing, I a good water based moisturizer is in order. There are some good oil-based ones, too. Here's what I'm using now: http://www.ubhpublications.com/ProductOrdering.html. I use both, the regular moisturizer and the dew spray, depending on how my hair feels. I have S-curl and used it for a couple of weeks, but it was too much for my hair. Being that I'm recovering from excessive heat damage, I moisturize my hair in the a.m. before I styling, and in the p.m. before I go to bed. If your hair feels really dry, I definitely do it twice a day.

Don't fret, eveything will be alright! :) I also agree with the others here that you should go and look for a new hairdresser. Sounds like she will do more harm than good to your hair.

This is totally off topic but Kinikakes if that is you in the sig you look SO NICE! Your hair is beautiful and your makeup is flawless. You are doing the DANG THING GIRL! Hopefully one day my hair will be as pretty as yours.:)

Thanks for all your help. And yes I do wrap my hair. So far my hair is not breaking as much as it was before. I'm just going to wrap it at night instead of rollersetting. I will be paying more attention to the middle. Will see by the end of the summer.
