My friend sent me a text just now saying that she just got her hair pressed and was talking to the lady doing it. Here is the message (brace yourself):
I got my hair pressed. It was a kitchen job so its not popping. But it got my roots extra straight. The lady who did it told me I wash too much. I told her about cowashing and she said it's a bad idea. She said black women in the winter months should wash their hair once a month!!!! Anything else is madness. I told her that i used to cowash and she said that's why i didn't see any change. I washed my hair before my oils could accumulate. But my roots were thick as hell. Overall though ima try washing my hair less frequently and see what happens. And she said we shouldn't go off what we see on the boards. All we gonna do is spend money and that anything will start to work if you use it long enough.
My Reply: HAHA! What works for her doesn't work for everyone. There are natural ladies who wash their hair once a month and others who don't. It depends on what works for YOUR hair. So you mean that if I use white rain conditioner long enough as a deep conditioner it will start to work?
Friend: I'm guessing so. But she said castor oil will grow hair. A southern remedy.

Well folks, there you have it. She wasn't cowashing more than once a week, if that and shampooed every other week. Also, her hair had a little swing at the end but no swang (she's a natural 3b). I agree with the cowashing winter months thing because wet hair = sick.
I'm no hair guru but I wonder if the hairdresser know's about protein-moisture balance, aphogee-2min before neutralizing (I taught mine about that one b4 i switched to DIY
). How would she feel if i told her that i use mn?!?!
This just in: the woman used royal crown grease and bb's castor oil moisturizer. Where's the heat protectant?
If you give or do your own presses, what do you use? And for reasons like this situation is why I'm DIY-ing as much as I can because me and the hairdresser would argue at every visit.
