i just placed an order from beautyofnewyork.com for mizani bb relaxer and some other products to do my first self relax. after my last salon relaxer experience i have had enough.

i went to my aunts stylist of 20 years, the morning of i woke up late and got a ticket on the way to the salon and he was nice enough to wait for me so i bit my tongue a lot during the service.

he took down my hair dug around in my new growth for a bit and then reached for the super relaxer (i bit my tongue) he started relaxing my hair without basing my scalp, i said something right away but he assured me that all relaxers were no base. i thought about arguing with him but decided since chemicals were already in my hair i should just shut up and deal. by the time he had slapped relaxer all over my head it was on the verge of being on fire so i insisted he rinse it out immediately. i was really worried at this point i thought all of my hair was going to fall out in the sink.

he raked through my hair like ever other stylist i've been to. I did shut him down real quick when he wanted to trim my hair there was no way i was letting this man near my hair with some scissors. of course the other stylist in the salon would not leave me alone about it "with all that hair you got on your head" thats how i wanted to keep it! so he used the marcel iron and burned my ends. that was the final push i needed to start self relaxing.

i cant wait to show you guys my results! Ive decided if anybody is going to burn all the hair off of my head its going to be me! I'm sure it will be fine though

Good luck with your self relaxer. You will do fine.

I'm due for mine any day now.......

when I get to my next base I'm goin to attempt to relax my own hair. I want to become a complete DIYer but I'm just not confident enough that i can do it. I think that after being here for a whole year, I should know enough to get a good start though

Good luck love, I'm sure you'll be fine, just make sure you read up the various helpful threads and articles (sistaslick) and ensure you are completely confident as to how you are going to do it, preparation etc! :)

I'm going to do my own relaxer for my next touch up. I'm fed up of paying for substandard work. :nono:

Come back and let us know your results. :yep:

Me too, OP! In fact, I just placed an order last night for the Alter Ego Linange relaxer system. This will be my first time self-relaxing, and I am kind of nervous, but I'm tired of putting my hair's fate in my stylist's hands!

Please let us know your results. I've actually been looking at this relaxer. Maybe in a couple of months, I'll give it a shot.

Yay!!! More DIY'ers!!! :yay:

If you're nervous, practice going through all of the relaxer steps with conditioner until you're confident enough to use the real thing :)

Good luck!

I self-relaxed 4 weeks ago and it turned out great! The first time I did it I was underprocessed, but the 2nd and 3rd time I made sure to not be stingy with the relaxer when I put it on the new growth. Putting a lot of relaxer creme on the newgrowth was the key for me. I'm never going back to the salon for another relaxer - this saves me $80 every 2 months :)

You will do just fine. I did a corrective 4 weeks ago because a stylist jacked up my hair and my hair came out really nice to say it had been 20 yrs since I had self relaxed. I plan to do my own relaxers from now on. Stylists in my neck of the woods are not used to 12 wks + ng. They really don't know how to handle it. I'm done with them!

Good luck!

Thanks! I self relaxed for the first time in my life this March. I've always been a weekly client in somebody's Salon.

I used Linanage Shea Butter Relaxer. However, I was seriously underprocessed because I got nervous/afraid and 1) didn't use enough relaxer and 2) didn't leave it on long enough. I plan to try again Memorial Day weekend, when I'll have plenty of time to take my time, relax and do it right.

So thanks for that. It was encouraging. I keep having friends "offer" to come over to do it, but this is something I should have learned to do YEARS ago. So, I am going to try again.

Hello, I'm new to this site and have been wondering.....How long is the shelf life of an already opened professional relaxer?

I DID IT!!! I self-relaxed for the first time! And you know what, it feels GREAT!!! I'm thinking about posting a thread on it. . .

ETA: I did it in three sections (the LondonDiva method) instead of two, and I'm so glad I did. Being a first-timer, I definitely needed the extra time for each section.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to do it in sections too. Well done la mosca for your results, please do post some pics. ;)

I would be so happy if I can get this right. I'm going to make sure I take the day off work and make sure my brats are out so I've got no distractions! :yep:
