girl..i read it..i was looking up silkners in a search, and someone asked about a certian deep wave weave..and she said she wanted to buy a weave that looks like either Terry Ellis Ross..or someone else..i forgot, and someone posted Joan has a silkner...suprised the hell outa me...wonder if thats true.

I remember reading on another hair board that a member who went to school with her or knew someone who went to school with her remembered her hair being nappy and bushy, not necessarily the type 3 it is now. Whether she has a texturizer or not, her hair looks fabulous and healthy

If her hair was "nappy and bushy" back then, it may have been because of the products and hair care methods used on her hair at that time. Now there is so much more awareness and support for natural hair care.

That's true. The right products make a world of difference.

SO true! That's why, since coming to this board, I really believe all hair can be good hair. My dd has 4z (okay 4b hair) and I always thought, poor thing, it will always be a brillo pad but in a few short months it is so soft, cottony, and beautiful, it makes me just love that hair type. And people with type 3 hair will tell me how pretty her hair is.

All I know is my hair wants to be just like hers when it grows up. Her hair is gorgeous. Is the silkner what Curve's offers?

Latia, you and I are on the same boat. I want to be just like her when I grow up. Clothes and craziness and all.

LOL the ditsyness I have down pat! Just let me at that hair ya'll!

Well if she does...I bet the main purpose is to reduce the bulk cuz that girl has some thick thick hair.

ok, so she has a silkner..is that what the concensious(sp) is?
and yes it looks fantabulous!! lovin her tresses.

Tracey's hair is gorgeaous.
On this board I've learned that the right products can do alot of good for hair styling check out the curve website before and afters and shingling technique
www.curve-salon.com
even without the silkener the products, haircare regime, and techniques really make a big difference in hair managability.

Come on now. Her mother black and her father white that is her natural hair. Her and her younger siblings texture of hair is the same too. The only one that isnt is her older sister because they have different fathers (Barry Gordy who is black)

ITA sky. I was thinking the same thing. It probably took her a long time to learn how to care for her natural hair. I love her hair!

im sorry, but just b/c she is of a mixed heritage does not automatically mean she is gonna have type 3 hair..I am mixed my self, and the whole top portion of my head is 4a..maybe it is her natural hair, but i just had to respond to what sky-blue said..just b/c u are of a mixed heritage does not gaurantee you type 3 hair by any means....

I don't know what I read or saw, but Tracee said that she finally gained control of her hair(or something like that). It could mean that she found the right products or she texturizes her hair...I don't know. People with curly hair texturize too...it cuts down on bulk etc.

Maybe she doesn't have a texturizer. I know that she does have a hair care regime. She does condition everyday...and she deep conditions often. She probably didn't do those things in the past. Conditioning alone especially deep conditioning can help you gain control of your hair.

The way stylists throw chemicals in people hair today...as if there is no other alternative I would not be supurised if she is texturize. I did see pics of her hair as a teen and younger and yes it was curly...and I only saw it in a pony tail. Maybe that's was all that she could do with it then...I don't know.

@Asummertyme you're right...because she's mixed race does not mean anything at all.

Could she have just used the Shingle method. On the Curve site before and afters some of the Shingled looks--- look like they could be Silkeners.

I agree it could be the products she is using now, but if she does use a Sikner it's still her hair and its fabulous

Mizani has a silkener product/system also...i always wondered exactly what that means... Its like they never go into details of what you can expect from it???

I think Joan's hair is the BOMB. Sometimes I watch girlfriends and I wish she'd wear it out more...she tends to wear the bun alot. But i can't blame her...thats alot of taming to do if she chooses to wear it out... :look:

I dont want to get too personal but if dont mind what nationality/ethicity(sp?)/or race are you mixed with?? I never seen someone who was half black/half white without whatever type hair TER has. My stepsisters hair is the same texture and her mom and dad are black with her moms mom being bi-racial and her dad straight up black. So she the 3rd generation and her hair curls when you wet it. Im not familiar with the whole texture chart so thats why I described it like that.

I'm mixed...well somewhat. My dad is 100% black and my mom is biracial. I have 4a hair.
I know where you are coming from blu, but you know how the whole hair type argument goes.

I read an interview about Tracee's hair routine on BET. She said the key to the curls is the Denman brush and good conditioners. I found this is true with my own hair. Some conditioners make it tangly and nappy, while my beloved Kenra makes it soft and curly.

I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that she gets a chemical process

@sky_blu, all biracial people don't have silky curls. Some have straight up naps. I have many biracial cousins with nappy hair. And my other cousins have straight hair. And then there are some that are in between.

I remember about a little under three years ago when i first went natural there was a link on a couple of hair boards to a BET interview she did where she discussed her hair care regimen and stated that she had gotten a texturizer to help make her hair more manageable.

*hack*- my grandpa
hack- my mom

It is very common, and you're right......
exiting thread

sky, i dont mind you asking, my mother is 100% puertorican, and my dad is black..i have 3 sisters plus myself..honeisos who is also a member here is my sister, and we all have diffrent hair textures..mine is the kinkiest..my youngest sisters hair is 3a-3b....my moms hair is 2b..very silky with a slight curl and fine hair..the only hair in inherited from her are the baby hairs on my neck...lol..
if u look on the curve web site, there is a litttle girl, who is bi racial, and her hair is deffintly kinky and beautiful very tight curls..i dunno wether joan has a silkner, her hair looks fantastic, i just wanna know for comparison reasons..but my point is that not every one who is mixed has type 3 hair...i can personally give the thumbs up on that.. it can range form the nappiest of naps..to very loose curls..my mom didnt even know how to do my hair, she just chopped it off into a afro..thats why i learned very early how to do my own napps..lol

I have a friend who has a White German mother and Black Jamaican father and her hair type and skin complexion is exactly like mine and both my parents are Black.

Her brothers and sisters all have 2a/b hair, so mixed genes don't guarantee your hair will look like your siblings.

OK, ladies I think I can shed some light on this one. I use to work for 20th Century Fox Film Corp. and I would see Terry all the time on the lot. First let me say, I'm really sure what hair type 3 anything looks like or means but if you're talking about what us as black folk call good hair then she's got it. And to add to this her facial skin is flawless she has the most beautiful complexion I may have every seen in my life, she doesn't come across as striking on TV but in person she's a really pretty lady.
