I've heard if that happens then the instrument is ceramic coated as opposed to actual ceramic plates. This is what I've heard in relation to some flat irons and them peeling. Over here they sell a brand call GHD which has ceramic plates instead of being coated in the ceramic. I don't know if iron could be made the same way.
Boadicea, thanks for sharing the photos and giving us the ceramic iron review. It's on my list of hair appliances to buy for sure. But you're the first one I've seen to a before and after on air dryed relaxed hair.
