I'm highly frustrated with my hair now. My pockets are not letting visit the salon, but today I'm going anyway. As of lately,as in the past few weeks, my hair has been dry and porous. Whatever I try, it's not remedying the situation. ACV, baking soda, moisturizing DC, protein, clarifying, cheleting, co-washing...etc...no avail.

Maybe it's a 360 degree correlation, because I've been feeling like crap lately. What's a girl to do?

im sorry to hear this, i dont have any advice, what moisturizers are you using? when protein and moisture are balanced, everything should be all right.

If going to the salon makes you feel better than go.

If you're experimenting maybe you are trying too many things at once. I can tell you that baking soda doesn't work for me, I don't know how to clarify with ACV plus I can't stand the smell, co-washing in the winter is a big no no for me but in the spring & summer its awesome, etc.. Trying to find a regimen can take a while and its frustrating sometimes. Sometimes its trial and error.

what products are you using? maybe some are not right for your hair, what DC are you using? how often do you do your hair?

If your hair is dry could it be moisture that you need?

Putting honey and oil (maybe extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil) on my hair and letting it sit with a baggie over it for a few hours makes my hair very soft. These items can be very cost effective & and light on your wallet.
Also, take a look at diet. Are you drinking plenty of water? Could you gain anything from taking a daily supplement?

This is just meant to be food for thought. Hang in there. Some needed changes may not come overnight or at the bat of an eye.

Are you relaxed? My hair became dry from overlapping when it was once a priority for me to have super straight edges everyday which translated to relaxing every 2 to 3 weeks or so.........which needless to say was an awful idea.

Waaaay too much at one time! Can you post your regimen with products and then we can target where you might be going wrong.

A simple wash DC and porosity control could fix that....

I know a salon might make you feel good and your hair may be "styled" nicely but most it may not be the healthiest thing for your hair....

I say slooooowwwwwww down with the products and try a few at a time till you find out what works for your hair.

Honestly, I spent the better part of my first year in hair care finding out what works for my hair...These things dont happen overnight!

Stay encouraged honey!!!

Maybe your hair is dry because of all the washing and different products you've used over the last few weeks.

Try Porosity control and a good DC will do the trick as another poster said. I learned that it takes more than one or two treatments to get your porosity under control. With the Roux Porosity Control, it took me 3 times to get my hair back to normal...finally.

I can't quote people right now, but I don't use those products at once! This is over a course of practically a month. PC did nothing for me. I left it in for the directed 30 seconds. For shampoos I've used phytonecter and phytocitris. For dcs I used ao honeysuckle and jane carter the cremey conditioner. Thank you for the advice and replies. Keep them coming please. I'm going to take it easy and go get it done.

Do your shampoos have sulfates?
What is your leave in??
How do you DC?

Have you tried a hot oil treatment, do you have coconut oil?

Do you do any pre-shampoo treatment at all?
That could make a difference.
Next time you DC, try adding honey with an oil.

I pre poo with a phyto product or coconut oil. But I don't use coconut oil after its style. Even a dab leaves it feeling heavy. My leave in is selerm 21. My hair loves cones. I tried to go cone free before but it was snapping. Yes they have sulphates but "natural from coconut". I've never had a problem with those two shampoos.

I add oil to the dc and baggy under a hooded dryer for 15 mins then let it cool off for another 10 mins and rinse with cool water.

Did you just use PC only once? If so you might need to give PC more time to work, try it over the course of a few weeks and then see.

Totally agree with this. I started off using 50-11 products, and I had no clue what worked for my hair initially...it definitely took time, and a year later I am still learning.

Could you possibly be using too much protein? I know when I first started I loaded up with protein, but I needed a strict moisture reggie for a long time. It took a while (weeks) before my hair stopped feeling so dry and "blah."

It took a lot of experimenting and almost 8 months before I found good products for my hair. A salon visit may not be the best overall--especially if it's not good for your wallet. Why not get a mani or pedi instead?

Porosity Control did nothing for me either, and my initial ACV rinses only threw my porosity even further out of whack.

I would urge you to take a look at the strength of your ACV rinse. The recipes floating around on this forum were WAY too strong for my hair, and led to a huge setback for me. Once I figured out my correct proportions, it was smooth sailing...the dryness, breakage, and porosity corrected themselves instantly (literally as soon as I poured the ACV over my head.)

None of the other remedies (moisturizing, co-washing) worked, until I got my porosity in check. Good luck to you...
