I've gotta confess

Can I have a candid moment with y'all about my hair? And please, feel free to do the same. But I've got some hair issues I need to get off of my chest.

#1I can't sleep with a hair bonnet or satin pillowcase anymore and I don't care. The bonnet and pillowcase were giving me acne. My hair hasn't suffered at all since I started sleeping with a naked head and my skin is a lot better.

#2 All products are the same to me. Sure I've come across a few hair products that were terrible, but mostly they're pretty good. I use hotel shampoo too, especially if I've been swimming.

#3 There is only one person I know with a hair regimen I'd actually consider copying and that's my baby nephew. He gets a cowash once a week, a good slather of coconut oil and detangle with a denman brush. His little baby curls are always popping.

Okay I'm done. Thank you kindly.

Hi krissyhair

I have acne and dandruff flair ups too. I brought 50 different bonnets so I can keep them clean and rotate them or when I misplace 1 or 2 or 3. I don't even sleep with a scarf because it's coming off... I'm a wild sleeper lol. Sometimes I will lay the scarf over my pillow if I wake up.

My hair confession is when I'm in a hurry and don't have time to sit under the dryer I will blow dry my deep conditioner in. I don't blow dry fully maybe 5-7minutes on low heat about 6in away with the air flow up but I need that penetration and my heating cap doesn't cut it at all. I promised myself to stop this year.

Living on the wild side?

If I don't tie my hair up at night it becomes a rat's nest in my nape area.

It's not even wild to me anymore. And the more I put the bonnet in the washing machine it would fall apart. They're usually very cheaply made.

Lol with the hand dryer though? How does the heating cap work actually?

Yea I know lol I detangle prior and use my hand to smooth down the strand as I dry in sections.
I have a golden hot heating cap but I'm giving it to my sister. It only heats in the back so half way through I turn it around backwards. No. And my hair is only slightly warm in the middle. Please.

I sometimes don't sleep with a scarf on either. I haven't noticed any breakage, but I think my pillow is satin or polysatin.

My confession: When my hair is straight, I sometimes flat iron my hair everyday; especially my bangs. Also, sometimes when I have knots in the front of my hair, I bite them out instead of cutting them or patiently detangling them out.

jennwantslonghurr do you really have 50, or was that hyperbole? Cause that really might be what it takes for me to cover my hair and keep a clear face.

krissyhair no I was exaggerating lol but I do have more than 15 Iast time I counted. First I needed back ups and then for some I don't like the way the elastic fits my head too big or too tight. I also have the drawstring kind. I used them all. Then I would purchase one whenever I'm at the store. I also brought alot of pillowcases that are cheap so I can change them regularly no excuses lol. I also have one satin pillowcase that I haven't used yet :/ I feel indifferent about it.

pelohello lol at the bitting. I have two ssks I think it's from my last stretch (8 months). I'm quite fascinated I didn't know relaxed girls could get them too. I haven't cut but I tried to untie one and made it tighter oh well

I hear you on this one. That satin won't absorb the extra oils from my hair and face so it just sits there on the pillowcase while I'm sleeping. This only happens to me in the summer so that's when I make an exception to use the cotton pillowcases instead of satin.:yep:

ETA Confession: I use my blow dryer to dry/blowout/partially straighten my hair. I do this twice a week on medium high heat and my hair is doing fine.

Here's another one. I won't be removing hair from my upper lip anymore. It causes hair bumps around my mouth that look like pimples. The peach fuzz looks way better than bumps.

What method do you use? You could try threading. It's not irritating to the skin like waxing or shaving can be

I used to have that problem (I inherited my mother's sensitive skin). Dharma Trading Company -- has plain white silk pillowcases for $14.29 each. Silk absorbs excess oils, and the pillowcases are inexpensive enough to buy several. They also sell silk dyes and painting supplies if plain white doesn't go with your decor.

Confession: I don't get them often, but when I find a single strand knot, I like to rip the little bugger out instead of cutting it. I know it's wrong, but it feels so good...

I co wash my hair everyday/every other day. My hair is short enough to where it is not a hassle.

My hair sheds like crazy everyday, always has. It surprises my friends but I still have a head full of hair.

I confess that I don't use conditioner on my hair and haven't in many, many, many months. I also confess that I don't have much energy to thoroughly comb my hair, so I lazily finger comb and finger detangle mostly. I wash my hair every two or three weeks or whenever I feel like it, rinse well, and oil my hair with whatever food grade oil is laying around. I'm a bit past APL and I don't notice any ill effects on my hair. Friends/roomies are constantly telling me that my hair is going to snap and break off, but I don't care. I'm so dang lazy with my hair these days. I have some things going on in my life and hair is like 99th on the list of things to worry about right now.

I use a hand held trimmer too, no bumps. I got tired of them ripping that wax off my face, lol. Maybe exfoliation or using an antibacterial moisturizer might help the area.... I just can't see giving in to the mustache girl

I left my satin pillow case at home (and am currently at university) so haven't used one for 5 weeks. I see no difference in my hair, which is interesting.

Cool thread. My confessions:

1) Dry detangling with oil? Yeah right. I heard of people detangling with coconut oil. No bueno here.
2) I don't LOC, LCO, OPP, ABC, BDD, blah blah blah. Oil does nothing for my hair. Leave in, cream or leave in, butter. Works better.
3) Detangling under running water? Negative. Denman brush? Breakage city.

We all do what works for is, right? :yep:

Is that what you do to help keep the bumps at bay? I just have to say I'm thankful to be a woman. Because if I had to get edge-ups or shave my face daily I'd be ugly.

It's funny because last night I slept with my satin hat last night for the first time since new years. I wasn't having breakage without it, but my hair was frizzier and more messy in the mornings.

Oil doesn't work for you? Blasphemy

I also haven't slept with a scarf on in a month or two because my sleeping scarves are leaving really odd black stains all over the place. It's stained my pillowcase, my fiance's shirts sleeping shirts, other non-black headbands/scarves, and pretty much anything they touch for prolonged periods. I don't get it. Only my black scarves are doing this.

So I've been doing without and it's been fine for me too. My fiance loves it

You are not alone op. I have never slept on silk or satin anything. I sleep in a cotton thing that used to be a scarf in a previous life. I also do not thoroughly detangle my hair. And I use hair grease. Please forgive me lhcf hair gods.

Willow00 You are not alone. If I use a bunch of moisturizing products on the regular, come wash day I skip the conditoner; as I see it the next few steps will add suffice. By next few steps, I mean the leave-in, the mouistirzing/styling creams, KCCC combo's, and of couse my beloved coconut or olive oil.

I have fine strands, and my hair is not that thick; product buildup easily leaves my hair looking limp (with or without locs). Regarding the "your hair will snap off" comments, back in the day when I stopped using hair grease and insisted upon using a type of "cream" instead, folks told me the same thing. Never mind them, Do YOU!

For years I've washed my hair with it in about 6-8 ponytails, any detangleing is done whilt there's shampoo on my hair. I adopted this becasue I often don't use conditioners.

This sounds like the true confessions thread. May be I need to wash more or buy more satin pillow cases/ The oil build up on those things is real. I have no bumps though.

I get mine at Bed Bath Beyond. It's like $3 if you use the 20% coupon. They are sold individually so only one in a pack. My store only had ivory and white as options. I bought one and like it so I will have to buy more. This is a good reminder for me to change mine now.

I confess that when I wear a hat, I like to baggy underneath. I straighten often so I need to add a boost of mositure when I can. Not sure when I am leaving work today because of the pending snow storm so I am dressed casual and...wearing a hat. :look:

My hair would be a dried mess without scarves. I actually wear a scarf and a bonnet on top. Even sleeping on satin pillow cases is not enough - my hair would be tangled even in twists. :lachen: I launder my scarves and they haven't fallen apart.

Confession time:

-This may not be a big deal but I don't exclusively cowash and I use sulfate shampoos. I cowashed my hair for years and it wasn't good for my scalp long term.

-It might be hurting me but I never wear protective styles for more than a day. Braids and twists makes me look like a child and buns never stay put overnight.
