It's moisturized at first, but...

Hi,

(I don't know what happened to my first post, so forgive me if you've seen this already)

I am having a serious problem with moisturizers faking me out...

Recently I have tried Profectiv Megagrowth, ORS Carrot Oil, ORS Olive Oil Lotion, and KeraCare Creme Headress. My problem is that all of these make my hair feel nice at first. However, 2 hours later my hair feels dried out and just greasy. I don't know what to do because it seems to happen with every moisturizer that I try.

Can anyone recommend anything that might actually moisturize my 4b hair? Any suggestions would really be helpful. TIA

A lot of the ladies like Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch Leave-In. Maybe you could try that or use another moisturizer that doesn't function as an "oil moisturizer" if your hair is greasy later. I have 4a/b hair and I tried Nexxus Phyto Organics Humectin as a leave-in moisturizer and I love it.

Thanks for the replies, ladies. I really appreciate it.

The last time I clarified was this past Saturday. I don't know if KeraCare 1st Lather counts as clarifying, but that's what I used and I think it gets my hair pretty clean.

I will def. try the NTM. I hear lots of good things about it. I have yet to see the new Nexxus products for sale anywhere, so I don't know if I'll be able to try those yet.

I'm so desperate to find a good daily moisturizer right now I could cry...

Thanks again for the suggestions ladies.

Hi Barnardbaby! I see that you're new - welcome!

Without knowing if your hair is relaxed or not, I have two brands that I highly recommend for your hair type (since I'm a 4A mostly, but have a bit of 4B in the back I suspect): Qhemet Biologics, and Carol's Daughter. I've been using QB for the past couple of years and I really like what they have. The service is wonderful and the woman who concocts all the stuff is really nice, too (I emailed her one time to thank her for the speedy delivery of my products). I recommend the Amla & Olive Heavy Cream, as well as the Olive Cream Conditioning Instant Detangler. The Amla Oil Nourishing Pomade is the very best pomade I have ever used.

I just recently started using Carol's Daughter. I purchased the following items:

1. Khoret Amen Leave- In Conditioner - I love the smell and it is the very best leave-in conditioner I have ever used!!!
2. Tui Shea Butter Hair Smoothie - I used this to deep condition and I loved this as well. It made my hair feel so moisturized for hours after use.

I got more stuff but it wasn't hair related.

I started using Shea butter that I bought from Whole Foods. I also started using Jane Carter products - namely, the Twist and Lock cream for natural and locked hair. My hair is not locked but it is in twists. Even when I rock my freedom fro, I use it and it keeps my hair moisturized for the entire day.

BTW: One reason that Profectiv may not be working for you is because it has mineral oil in it. I found that it worked horribly in my hair, too, which is why I was compelled to use products with more natural ingredients. Whether your hair is relaxed or not I think textured hair in general benefits more from what mother nature has to offer!

Good luck! It took me a long time to nail down the right products for my hair and for locking in moisture. I hope this helps you.

I use NTM Silk touch leave in and seal it with Jojoba oil. Works like a charm and my hair is never "greasy".

I also clarify once a week.

Since you asked for replies from 4a/b's I can't give any BUT............I wanted to say welcome.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions (and the warm welcomes!). You ladies have some beautiful hair, and I'm so glad I can get advice from people with some real knowledge about caring for hair.

I bought some NTM today and am going to test it out in a few minutes.

Naijamerican, I will most certainly check out Carol's Daughter and Qhemet Biologics. They sound like great products! Also, I have been thinking for a long time about trying out products with natural ingredients. I think maybe getting away from the harsh chemicals in my shampoos and conditioners may help me as well.

Thanks again ladies. You have all made my day!

make sure you seal your moisture in.....i've made that mistake b4 thinking that sealing was an unimportant step, but gurl my hair was dry in an hour....but when i sealed my hair the moisture stayed locked in.

you seal the entire length of your hair....you want all of your hair to stay moisturized, right?? It works wonders....I usually use EVOO, but after my next wash I'm going use castor oil....

C/S

I use Profectiv products regularly and it's been very good to my hair. I usually use Breakfree, healthy ends and then seal w/jajoba oil and castor oil. Sometimes I use Megagrowth as well. I do this in the morning and in the evening before I go to bed and my hair is soft and well moisturized.

Robin's Afro Detangling Creme (growafrohairlong.com). The price is very scary but it will last you for months. I have never had a moisturizer -- always used serum after rinsing out my conditioner. This moisturizer doesn't build up, keeps my 4b resistant hair very moisturized without feeling greasy and I really only need a small amount. It doesn't do anything for me as far as detangling goes but my shampoo does that. I just LOVE this stuff. Hopefully you will find something that will work for you (but you should definitely give this stuff a try).
