It's Just not fair!!!

It\'s Just not fair!!!

Today, I was at the grocery store and saw an old friend. She has 6 kids and looks like a 16 yr old. Flat stomach and in good shape.

Her hair is at her butt!!!!!!!!! SHe has natural hair that's probable 3c/4a. I asked her what she does to her hair. She said she had been living in Kansas for a while and this guy would press her hair and it would last about 3 months! She continued to talk and said since she has been in TX she hadn't found anybody to press her hair like him. I asked her how often she washed her hair she said about every three months. And then she gets this lady to press it. And thats all. No particulary shampoo or conditioner, whatever the lady has or if she washed it whatever she has. And I could tell she didn't do too much to it. She had it hanging in a long ponytail that looked like it had been that way for a couple of days. And some of the top part of the ponytail had been rubbing up against something because it was matted up.

Every since I have known her 3-4 years she pretty much lives off of junk food. Her and the kids. SHe says she never wanted her kids to feel bad when other kids have ice cream or candy and hers didn't. "go figure"

Shampoo every 3 months, eh? Not I but whatever works for her.

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

All the black women I know with long hair fit this profile. They heat style it and don't worry/think about it too much. Maybe that is the key to keep it simple (of course you need to wash it more than once every three months!)

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

The matted thing and the no washing for 3 months is pretty gross...

but I'm going to start doing less things to my hair to see how it responds. Maybe I'm just going overboard with it... we'll see.

Maybe matted was too strong of a word but it was a bit tangled. It's definetly all of hers. I've seen it up and down.

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

Not washing her hair for 3 months is gross...hope she doesn't have bugs growing in her head.

However, practicing the K.I.S.S (Keep It Simple Stupid) does indeed work and it GREAT for hair!

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

Not washing hair could just mean no shampoo, I dont think they mean they dont wet it at all or raise it will water, if they do that its fine, u dont need shampoo, leaving the hair alone is very important,

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

Hy hair stinks if I go 10 days without washing...If I tried to go 3 months, I'd be scratching til my scalp was raw... Ewwww...

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

What about keeping the scalp healthy & free of little organisms, like dust mites for example? Where I live, there is pollen everywhere. I have to wash my hair often or else I'll feel like a million ants are marching across my scalp. I can understand rinsing with plain water instead of using shampoo all of the time, but going weeks and weeks without washing...? No way.

i agree... but i do think 'less is best'...but i must shampoo! my scalp and hair couldn't take it..plus i like clean smelling hair. 2 weeks ago i undid my neice's braids that she left in for 3 months. between the matting and the odor of not thouroughly shampooing... i vowed to never go for more than a week..even with one hand...i am still shampooing every 2-3 days...until i can use both again...

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

shampoo was not always around so I do think the hair can be fine without it, there are other ways too clean the hair, I dont really know any,

but I do belive it can be done

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

i believe in keeping it simple. i'm trying no hair products (NONE). i am only washing it once a week. oh, yes i do take vitamins ( no heat)

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

I know of a woman that has a curly perm and she puts in her moisturizer everyday(what kind i dunno) and she washes her hair every 3 weeks in the summer and once a month in the winter and her hair IS long also. She goes to the stylist once every 4 months and she told me of another woman who doesn't wash her hair and her hair is long too so this has me thinking of trying this kind of thing(yes im going to do it) I might be the only one trying this thing but im gonna try a month of no washing and see how this goes. Gotta keep my hair sleep in caps cleen and my pillow cases. I 'may' kind of do a rinse or so of my hair but i will DEFINITELY have it moistened w/my usual products. If any1 else w/me cool but if not i'll let yall know how it went in June if i could wait that long. lol

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

Since I know I can grow my hair AND wash it often, I will continue to do so. I like having a clean scalp.

I didn't wash my hair often prior to this board, maybe every 3 weeks, and it grew regardless, I prefer having my hair clean and smelling now though.

I believe so too!

Before finding out about this forum, I used to shampoo my hair 1-2 times per month and my hair grew to armpit length! (my hair wasn't messed up either, I remember it being on the dry side sometimes because I hardly used a moisturizer, but it was still in good condition!) I think I'm going to have to go back to that. I think leaving the hair alone is good too. That's probably why all those women had lots of growth. Hair is made of 3% water and 97% protein. I don't think you necessarily need water for hair growth...just for cleanliness and hygiene.

What do u guys think?
