It's Just not fair!!!

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

I wouldn't ever go that long without washing my hair.. how gross. I can't imagine the dirt and build up. I would think that would have an effect on her skin and sanitation of her bedding.

It's just not something that I would do... but to each it's on.

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

Well, hair is going to grow no matter what you do since it grows from the inside. What builds up in the scalp doesn't seem to matter unless you got an infection or something that would effect what is underneath the scalp. Their hair probably grows long due to not manipulating it so much. Most people I know with long hair either a) go to the hairdresser once a week or b) wash there hair every two weeks. They rarely mess with there hair, meaning they wrap it at night, barely use curling irons, and keep it moisturized. So, I think I will pass on the not washing hair for 3-4 months but I have been considering washing my hair only once a week...it's just hard to do because I love for my scalp to be clean and I love to wash my hair. Plus, it seems like my hair gets drier the longer I wait to wash. Sorry for rambling

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

My mom's hair grows like CRAZY! The thing is she only wash her hair once a month (sometimes twice). She always wear her hair in a ponytail. Whenever she does decide to get her perm (maybe every 2-3 months

) and wear her hair down...people always comment on how long it is. She recently cut it to the top of her shoulders about a month ago, and it's already grown past her shoulders again! She's always talking about me washing my hair too much. She swear "back in the days" she never washed her hair as often as she does now! Old pictures prove that she's always in deed had long healthy looking hair. I just don't think I could go past a week!

Amen! I always say that I'd rather have neck-length or collar-bone HEALTHY hair than butt-length dull, lifeless hair. But I tell you what? I have to laugh everytime I see a long-haired black woman tossin' and flippin' and her hair is just as dull, lifeless and thin. It's hilarious to me...

ditto,

I was going to try once a month. sigh. I just took my hair out of Braids Friday and I've already washed my hair twice. I went bike riding today and I think I am going to co wash it tonight. I've gotta find that post on keeping your hands out of your hair disease.

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

Yep. I'm gonna leave it alone and see what happens. My mom does that. Last time i washed her was um.....uh....hmm i think sometime last year in august...i think. well anyway and her hair DID grow. So im gonna try this just for a month and see. If it does work good. I'll wash my hair though and then try again maybe a bit longer or so, but im just wanting to see how this will go because i've just heard so much about this im gonna just try it. I was thinking of making it a challenge but i think i will be the only one. lol

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

Ya seee? Comments like this from Pooh is the reason im going to try this. I remember when i was younger that when my mom did my hair she'd only just wet a brush and put my hair in2 some pigtails that was it. I didnt get it washed much though and my hair was somewhat past shoulder length. Not VERY long but much longer than i have ever had in my adult life so im going to try this and see. Maybe we should do a challenge, i dunno

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

hmm... i dont think ill be trying this challenge in my lifetime,, lol hair will grow regardless if its washed or not. i was trying to figure out where the damage comes from washing hair. is it from tangles mainly or trying to comb the hair out after the wash or other?

I dont do much manipulation on my hair, i dont use heat often. i dont use a comb. i usually finger comb/brush with boar bristle if ness, wash an go, an my hair doesnt tangle. so i think ill continue my twice a week washing:). as my hair loves the water. its softer. smells freash lol. looks moisturised, doesnt tangle, an still grows.

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

I have gone for long periods of time without washing my hair (once a month, maybe even less...I know its gross), but I have found that my hair grows better when it's washed more often, once a week at least. Now that I wash more regularly my scalp feels much better and my hair seems stronger. And I love that clean feeling...I used to think washing was bad for my hair but now I realise its the opposite.

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

It is sooo funny to me when I read some of the posts about washing frequencies-----not just this thread, but many of them, and some of them sound like they are trying to grow flowers, instead of cleansing the scalp & hair.

With that many kids to chase after you would have a flat stomach and be in good shape too!!!!

All the black women I know with long hair fit this profile. They heat style it and don't worry/think about it too much. Maybe that is the key to keep it simple (of course you need to wash it more than once every three months!)

[/ QUOTE ]That is true , but I find that a lot of these women were blessed with beautiful hair from their parents. I know a few of my friends with LONG hair decided to cut if off and they can't grow it back! They never knew how to take good care of their hair because it was long naturally and they didnt worry about growing it out

I'd be itching like a person with head lice.

I don't doubt that it would be beneficial to the hair to just "leave it alone" though.

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

I think people who leave there hair alone grow it long due to less manipulation. If you wash often but pile your hair on top of your head and rip it out when combing, yeah it would stunt the growth. But hair is 20% moisture and 80% protien, so moisturizing daily isn't bad for the hair. Personally I wash my hair once a week with shampoo (Nioxin is my choice now, leaves my scalp tingly) and conditoner wash whenever it feels dry (usually 2/3 times a week). My hair was very dry when I pressed it and only washed twice a month.

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

I am now over 2 weeks w/o washing and my hair is doing fine. I apply my moisturizer everyday and my hair is soft. Because my mom had over applied some sulpher 8 my hair is not smelling too good but its not strong or real bad i dont have folx acting funny moving away from me. LOL. My hair doesnt itch alot either. I change my pillow cases and my hair wear. Other than that my hair is doing fine. As for growth i dont think i have any yet, i dunno, havent really paid much attention on that, but i'll know by end of this experiment.

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

I know for a fact I can't go without washing my hair for more than two weeks. My scalp would be itching something fierce and all that dead skin just piling up is just so gross. Plus I remember going to school with this one girl whose hair was so filthy that the grease clods in her hair look like boogers.

I would like to add that it's possible that she probably suffered from some kind of scalp condition.

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

Ooh wow. I never seen that but yes you are prolly right about her having a condition. I dont grease that much anymore for right now because of what im doing but i just try to keep it simple. I did some flat twists today and they look nice(at least one side) Imma take some pics when im done and show them. As i practice im getting better and better. Cornrows are another goal of mine.

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

Yep, she literally sits on her hair. All she said is that she hates dealing with it. She is look for some one that can press hair that will last a very long time. I wondered if her hair is heat damaged.

When I was younger, my hair was really long, I would say down the middle of my back. I only washed my hair once every two months. My hair was thick, and my mom would have to plan way in advance to wash it. That was the best condition my hair had ever been in. Even now, I don't have to wash my hair much. I can flat iorn or press it and it will stay straight until the next time I wash it. I wash it more often now because it can get very dry.

I asked her how often she washed her hair she said about every three months.

Let me count all the crap that my hair would accumulate in 3 months: Hot sause, dirt, sweat, bed lint, dust, make-up, white boi soy, cat fur, rat fur, shrimp scent, duck feathers.

Naw, I can't go 3 MONTHS without cleasing my head!

Hot sauce? :lachen:

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

Well, not washing to 3 months may be akin to having it in braids. I mean look at Sade, whe wears her hair back all the time and her crap is long. I think we all know the less manipuation the better. But i need to wash, i love to wash.

A co worker of mine should have hair down to her *** cause she washes her around 3- 4 months or on special holidays. I must say her hair stinks, is short and uneven, not to mention has lint balls in it. I dont think its a good idea! IMO

Re: It\'s Just not fair!!!

My hair starts shedding like CRAZY after one week of not washing it and the shedding only stops after washing it, so this no washing thing will NOT work for me.
