In worse shape than the rest of your hair?

If not, do you have to be extra careful in taking care of it?
If so, what are you doing to take care of it better

I have had to cut mine, cuz lawd I tell ya it was lookin raggedy

You cant tell that Ive cut it under all my hair, but what I do is Moisturize that area extra and only relax it every other relaxer ....

I stopped relaxing it as often as the rest of my hair. I haven't relaxed my nape since the beginning of october 2005 so that's over 6 months now. I believe I will continue to do this. The nape of my neck is actually the softest texture I have (I think it might be 3c, it's rather wavy as opposed to kinky like the rest of my hair). My nape also grows slower than the rest therefore it doesn't need to be relaxed as often.

Since I started stretching the nape more than I stretch the rest of my hair, I have noticed the texture continues to get softer and getting longer and looking more full. I use S-curl and Wild Growth Hair Oil back there to keep it soft and moisturized. I love my nape now :)

My nape is the thickest/kinkiest texture. It broke off from relaxers. I have been moisturizing much more, but I haven't decided if I'm not going to relax that section.

Nape is normal I guess, I never had problems w/that area. I care for it the same way as the rest of my hair. I know alot of ladies have problems w/that are due to necklaces and things that constantly snag on the hair causing it to break off. It's not always due to the relaxer. My aunt and cousin have been natural forever and they major problems w/their nape area, when they come to get their hair done on a regular basis, moisturing poo's and DC, it begins to grow in really good like the rest of their hair, but the minute they stop comming to me it's down hill from there, :ohwell: . Then they expect me to fix it again and it's just an on going cycle. :( I fix it they dissappear, etc. etc.

my nape area is 3b fine texture, which grows very fast, but breaks more easily, i have limit stress in that area. I may wait 6 months before relaxing that area.

my nape is pretty good, no breakage in that area ever. When i do relax I do the nape the in the last 10 minutes so its not overprocessed.

my nape is my problem area it is dry it will grow and then break off it was bald at one point but the docter gave me some thing to put on it and told me scratching was what was causing it to break i also think puting a scarf on my hair at night rubbing it is why it is like that also i am looking for some 100 percent silk pillow cases

When I wasn't taking care of my hair sometimes the hair was there at the nape and sometimes it wasn't. I didn't understand it. Now I relax that area last and no tight ponytails for me. It is actually now longer and healther and also not as straight as the rest of my hair.

I haven't relaxed my nape since spring of 2005 (March, I think). My nape is thriving and I keep it extra moisturized. It's 95% natural too so I can see how my hair is when natural.

I think some have problems with breakage because the nape hair is a different texture and needs to be treated differently, especially if relaxing.

It used to be shorter than the rest of my hair, but ever since I stopped relaxing, it's even with the longest length.

A good bit of my hair around the nape area broke off 3 years ago when my ex-hairdresser left relaxer on there for like 30 minutes. It has yet to grow back. Luckily I have thick hair, so you can't really see it. Last month it dawned on me that I should probably stop relaxing it b/c it grows slower. Everytime that I've gotten a relaxer over the past 3 years, the hairdressers just saturate that area with relaxer, making it even more fragile. But, the problem is I don't do my own relaxers. So should I tell my hairdresser to leave my nape alone for my next relaxer?

Yep. It is your hair and money.

My nape is shorter than the rest of my hair. It is the softest texture. I perm it about every 3rd or 4 th relaxer. It's healthy now and thicker since I've been doing that.

My nape was shorter and always broke off when I was relaxed and it's shorter now that I'm natural. It's the driest and coiliest part of my hair and breaks easily. I make sure to give it extra care, keep it moisturized and protected. I also shampoo less often so I'm not robbing it of moisture too often and I started baggying at night. I hope it will grow in some more now.

The nape is my problem area too. Every since that breakage from color last year it hasn't recovered. I am deciding whether to keep relaxing that area or only relax it 2 x's a year.

my two eddie's are seriously dry and course but the four inches above (lower nape area) is at totally different texture. it's like 3c or something. i didn't know it until i did a 5 and half month stretch. i could really tell all the different textures. that area would always grow the slowest (maybe breaking off???). now that's the last area i relax for like 5-6 minutes. i wear my hair up alot now but when i wear it down it looks pretty even (since my last trim october)

My nape is the worst part of my hair, but im working on it. I just got a perm and didnt relax the back. Im also mosturizing it all the time. Hopefully I will see great growth soon!!!!

I have been blessed when it comes to my nape. I've never had it break off or be shorter than the rest of my hair.
Yeah my nape is supernatural or something:lol: It is softer than the rest of my hair yet when I used to go to hairdressers the relaxer was left on it the longest because when relaxing they started at the nape. It baffles me as to why it is still the thickest part of my head:confused: To answer the question, nopes I don't have to be extra careful with it when taking care of my hair...so weird...
