Is shorter hair more attractive on certain people?

I am in the process of growing out my hair which is now CBL.I once had a really cute pixie cut that I loved and gots lots of compliments. I was just wandering do some people just look better with shorter hair? Like Nia Long I think she is super fierce with the shorter hair cut versus the long hair. I ask because I am seriously thinking of chopping my hair off again and going back shorter. IMO as long as its healthy then thats all that really matters but who knows I am preggo and could be hormonal.
Thanks for all thoughts and opinions.

Yes, some people's features stand out more with short hair or even pulled back. Personally, I liked my super short hair and when it got to bsl+....in between...not so much.

Definitely.

I dont think Halle should go back to long hair. The short hair is so fierce on her.

Nia looks good with both.

Yeah.. Halle Berry, Nia Long, Rhianna, & Eva Pigford... (idc what she calls herself haha "Marcille" which is a pretty middle name)

ALLL look amazing with short cuts and lack luster with long hair

I think yes there are some who look better with short hair

HOWVEVER...
On another note though it may be that they just didn't find their "long" hair cut that made them stand out too. So I can say people like Halle and Nia look better with short hair, right NOW. Who knows what I'll say if they find the right hair style, cut that's longer, that's perfect for them.

I think I look better with short hair (I'm talking shoulder length) than I do with how long my hair is now, but because I'm natural it doesn't really matter because my hair is going to shrink up anyway. I love being natural because I have the best of both worlds. Short and long hair!

You all forgot Malinda Williams and Terry Vaughn (I think that's her name, you know, Lavita from Steve Harvey). Their short, spiky cuts were so fierce they made me chop mine off every time I was trying to grow it back longer.

I agree though, I got WAAY more compliments on my hair when it was short than when it was shoulder length. The only compliments I got at shoulder length was stuff like, that's good you wear your natural hair and not weaves/wigs. But NEVER compliments like, ooooh, your hair is so sharp :nono:. Especially not with this old lady bun I wear every day now

But when I wore the short, spiky short cut (Like Halle Berry in Swordfish) I went to the salon weekly and it was always sharp and you felt like it was "done". I admit that now it just feels like okay, my hair is just done and not "done". But I couldn't deal with the salon weekly because their products would itch my scalp and toward the end I was bringing in my own products and what's the point of that?

Bottom line, people would claim short cuts were low maintenance. That was the total opposite for me though but I loved it on me. Short hair does exude confidence to me.

I agree with all the different thoughts I did find that my short cut was not low maintenance at all. It needed constant upkeep but I did get way more compliments than I do now with my ponytails buns and what not. I guess I am in the in between phase cause I am sure once it gets longer people will be searching my head for tracks lol.
Thanks ladies!

Absolutely. Some people look so average with long hair. A nice short cut on a pretty face makes you stand out from the crowd, but your face and head need to be a certain shape to pull it off.

I think some people look good with short hair. My mom always says I would look good with short hair, but I'm not going that route. When I want a short look, I rock a short wig. It takes too much time and effort to grow out a short cut IMO.

I agree with what you said...."as long as its healthy then thats all that really matters"

Is that you in your avatar? If so I can see you rockin a shorter cut...you have a pretty oval face.

I received more compliments when I had a pixie cut than any other hair cut. If it didn't require so much upkeep, with retouching the roots, and curling, I would keep my hair in that style forever, it really suited me the best. (thinks to self if all this long hair effort is worth it)

people with small heads and small features

Agreed. Short hair is masculine so I think women with beautiful faces and delicate features look best with it.

Most women that I see with short hair look awful.:nono:

This is something I love about natural hair too. I've been told I look better with NL/SL-ish hair and plain with BSL/beyond hair. Natural hair allows the best of both worlds like you said!

YES!! Definitely! Sometimes people just look better with either short or long hair.

Rihanna, Halle, Nia, Eva, Sophia Loren, Meryl Streep (think "Devil Wears Prada" hair cut) all look better with SHORTER hair if you ask me. If you get a nice fierce cut it can make you go from "blah" and humdrum to "WOW!!"

Then again, I think that some women look better with longer hair as well. ie. Queen Latifah, Beyonce, Catherine Zeta Jones, etc.

Personally for me, I think I look better with longer hair than shorter hair. People have seemed to agree with me on that point as well. lol* Anytime I wear my hair in a ponytail people don't say anything about my hair. But when I wear it down I get all KINDS of compliments! Men tend to check me out and give me more attention too when my hair is down. Plus, when I cut my hair (the shortest it's EVER been!) back in 2006, NOBODY said anything about my hair. Not even: "Cool...nice haircut!" :nono: It was almost like I hadn't done anything to it lol. Maybe the cut wasn't "fierce", but I don't think that was the problem.

I don't even think I like my hair cut short. I think my hair frames my face better when it's long. I think I look more feminine and even a guy friend of mine said that even though I'm attractive when I have my hair up, he said that when I wear my hair down, I take it to a "different level"!!

I think you have to have a certain head-shape/features for short hair. And I don't think I have them lol*. I prefer longer hair on me. :yep:

I think that as long as your hair is heathy, you should wear it how you like it. You are choosing to have short hair, its not short because it can't grow. If you feel that short hair fits your face better than than is what you should do.

A friend of mine keeps her hair cut short because it really brings out her features. It's so nice she gets asked constantly who does her hair. Once she grew it out to shoulder length and it just covered her face and looked so plain.

And this is an important point. Is it that people look better with short hair, or is it that they look better with hair away from their face? Your hair isn't any shorter when you pull it into a ponytail, it's just not all around your face. I think the great thing with long hair is that you can have it surround your face or you can pull it into an updo with a few short tendrils to frame your face and this allows you to show your features more.

I think I look better with my hair away from my face. But I don't think I look better with short hair. When I cut my hair the shortest, it was not cute to me.

Short hair definitely suits certain people better than others. I think the best celeb example of this is Rihanna. When she had long hair it was debatable if she was really that pretty or just another girl with long hair/light skin, but when she cut her hair it was undeniable that she is absolutely gorgeous with great features.

I think short hair generally looks good on those with high cheekbones or very strong features, even if they aren't very pretty. I think many women who might consider themselves "average" are probably surprised with how short hair can seemingly transform them to gorgeous and striking, showcase their features which long hair might have detracted from. I've seen many an example of fotki and various blogs.

I totally agree with you on this and can attest to it myself. :yep: I had microbraids in my hair for about 6 months. I got sick of it and cut off all my hair at the end of April. I had been contemplating cutting my hair because even though I have been natural for 9 years, I just wanted a different look and I had never had such short hair. I cut it at the end of April this year. I was so shocked at the response I got. People have given me compliments left and right. It was a great boost to my ego! :yep: :D I've been told that I look good either way, but I personally feel that I stand out more with short hair. I feel that it brings out my features more (like my cheekbones).

people with small heads and small features

Exactly! :yep: I have a small head with small features (small oval-shaped face with high cheekbones, small mouth, etc.); however, I am growing my hair to hipbone length for a few reasons: 1) I do not like short hair on me; 2) I had never had hair longer than shoulder length before, and I wanted to experience longer lengths; and 3) I've found a way to look good with long hair.

Now that I'm about 2" from WL, I get so many compliments on my hair, especially when I wear my Diana-Ross-like twistout (avatar pic). (At a wedding recently, the photographer actually called me Diana Ross...urm...I took it as a compliment.:lachen:) I never got that with short hair.

To compliment my features, I always wear styles where my hair is either flowing away or pulled away from my face.
