Is oil sheen spray bad?

Y'know the oil sheen spray that comes in an aerosol can... I just came across a can of it in my linen (aka hair product) closet. I know I haven't used any in forever, and just wondered if there was a good reason why. Any thoughts?

(I tried the search feature, but all I got was a blank white screen.) Thanks in advance for any answers!

I've been wondering the same thing. I looked at a bottle and except for mineral oil (which my hair likes) and VOCs I couldn't find anything wrong with it.

I have the Profectiv Strength N' Shine Anti-breakage Shimmering Oil Sheen spray and I love it! I use it on ocassion when I want that "oomph" with my hair. The can I have has lasted a long time.

I don't spray my hair directly. I spray some on my hands and smooth throughout my hair. My hair looks shiny and glistens, especially in the sunlight, and it makes my hair look healthy and it looks very pretty.

I have never experienced anything bad using this product.

I love my ORS oil sheen, I use it about 3x per week. I spray two puffs in the air and allow the sheen to lightly cover my hair. I don't sray directly on my hair because it does seem to weigh my hair down. other than that I do not see anything wrong with it.

It's a RIGHTOUS product for sure. Always has come in handy and makes a BLAH hairdo BLING!

Actually, I think I am going to buy another can just to make sure they don't discontiune it on me! :yep:

Nothing compares to Alternatives Oil Sheen, I use it only when I wrap my hair. Oh, I also like the Olive Oil one too...can't nobody tell me nothin, I lub my oil sheen.:lachen:

I love the stuff and a little goes a long way.

Wow, okay, good to know. That means I can hold onto this oil sheen and start incorporating it for more shine:spinning:

The Mizani SHYNE Bodifying Sheen looks good!

I've used Razac before and that's good too. But so far, PROFECTIV is my baby...

Note to self... *buy profective oil sheen at sally's today when you go to get the generic humectress.* Got it. Thanks JN.

I dont use canned oil sheen any more.............dont plan on it either. But if your worried or unsure make your own using these (you can get them for like 12.00 on amazon and you fill it with your own oil) They do not spray heavy like a pump, it actually mists like oil sheen.

I three set goes for like $20 but its not Misto brand so I dont know if it mists well

But the MISTO has a great rep and you can add all your expensive essential oils and mist them on your hair for even distribution and conservation.

You are welcome Sareca! Let me know what you think. Oh, and don't forget to put your sunglasses on... this stuff truly shimmers! :yep:

My beautician told me not to use oil sheen or any other aerosol type sprays. She said the propane in it makes your hair dry and highly flammable. I was a major fan of ORS and Fantasia IC oil sheen, but I switched to the Fantasia IC shine spray (I also have some by Keracare - love it!).

I get the same shine effect without fogging up the bathroom. I'm not sure yet how much difference it's making in terms of moisture.

I'll agree to that if someone uses a lot of it. That is why I spritz it on my hands and smooth throughout the hair. I don't spray it all over my hair like hair spray. I have not experienced dry hair using oil sheen, but again I don't over do it or use a lot and I don't use it to moisturize my hair.

I'm feelin' that! I'll check it out. Actually... I have a similar thing I got from pampered chef. Hmmm....

I wish I still believed what beauticians told me. I'm always inclined to do the opposite of what they say.

I totally forgot about the fog tho. Boy that's taking me back. :)

I think I'll spray it in my hand like JN suggested.

YES it used for light cooking with olive oil. Smae concept, though im not sure it the pampered chef one mist's or pumps. The Misto pumps, and you can fine it at any Linen n'Things, Bed Bath and Beyond, Macy's or Kmart, etc. in the cooking utensil section.

BTW: I dont agree with canned sheen anyway

I think that's why oil sheen got a bad rep. Folks were using it was a moisturizer. Now we know better.:yep: Thank God for LHCF.

I LOVE:love2: the smell of Alternatives oil sheen, and I really like the consistency too

:bump: :bump: :bump:

List of oil sheens... http://www.texasbeautysupply.com/hairsheen.html

What else ya'll using?
I'm currently using Keracare...I'm not crazy about it...You definitely have to use a light touch and it doesn't feel like an oil to me, rather a collection of...I dunno...chemicals, though it does make my hair shine like nobodies business.

Profective is the bomb! I actually use all their products, because my hair likes the continuity...but the spray is the shiznit! It's light and smells nice...I spray it a little higher than my head and let it waft over my wash n' go...

I found Profective at Walmart and girl you ain't never lied! As soon as I read the directions and sprayed it my first thought was... if you don't want us inhaling this stuff you shouldn't make it smell so darn good! It smells like candied fruit. It gave my hair a mirror-like shine days after my last co-wash and it didn't make a big cloud at all. It's very light.

HIT!

I know someone that grew in a bald spot fast only by spraying isoplus oil sheen spray directly on the area twice a day for about a month and the first listed ingredient is mineral oil. :ohwell:

I aways stayed away mineral oil because I know it to be a laxative. *My mother used to give me a tablespoon full everyday. * I kept thinking, I'm not putting a laxative on my hair! giny cream, yes but I draw the line at laxatives. :lachen:Well, at least that's what I thought that until I started looking for castor oil in Walgreens. I couldn't find it anywhere. I eventually asked a sales person for help. He find it quickly. It was right next to the mineral oil in the laxative section.

I've never used mineral oil on my hair, but I don't think it's a whole not different from castor oil.
