Is Obama the Messiah?

Hello-

Obama has been compared to a Messiah recently. Halle Berry says " Ill do whatever he says to do". While others say they "BELIEVE" in Obama. Obama blew his nose and people cheered.

But what about GOD? I have never heard people have so much "faith" in a man. I have never heard people talk in high regard about GOD the way they are talking about Obama.

It's almost like when people go to football games and cheer for their team but yet won't cheer for GOD (at church).

Any thoughts?

I understand exactly where you are coming from. I feel the same way. It is a bit ridiculous to fawn over a man the way americans are right now. People literally get red-faced and mad when you speak against their "precious" Obama and will argue you down about how "awesome" he is. It's like the hang on his every word. My bff and I went to one of his rallies and were in awe of how people were like little puppies waiting for him to throw them a bone. I get concerned when people spend all of their energy concentrating on him. It's not healthy. It's not normal and it is idolatry. I will have NO part in it.

Disclaimer: My post is not directed towards Obama as a person. Nor do I claim that it is Obama's fault. Nor am I talking ONLY about unbelievers. It is about OBSESSION in general. :ohwell:

I can understand that it's weird to see people kind of fawn over a politician. But I think it's just the fact that we've had mediocre and bad leaders for so long that people are excited about the prospect of voting for someone, rather than using their vote to keep someone else from getting it.

Anybody who feels like Obama is the Messiah or Second Coming (tongue in cheek) needs to chill b/c they've gone too far. I llike Obama but he's still just a man. His being elected isn't going to end racisim, cure AIDS and end world poverty. A president can only do so much.

Well, certainly he is not the "Messiah".

There have been many men/women who have come out for years that people have done this with: ie: Michael Jackson

Mr. Obama is a very popular person, especially because its a great possibility that he will be the first, black president of the United States...that's huge for so many people, and that's ok for them to feel that way.

I'm 44 years old and if you would have told me 15/20 years ago that there would be a possibility that a black man would go this far in the election process, and the way he's getting there, I would have told you that would not be possible...but it is.

Our focus as christians should be to pray...no matter who comes into power as the leader of this country, so that we may live peaceable lives..this is what the scriptures say.

Blessing, ladies!

But, if you were to become famous overnight, tonight..and people went out of their way to be this way with you, would you still do what you do or will it be idolatry because they do this and you will come out of the limelight? I'm just curious:look:

God has never been "popular"!

We can't expect for the world to see Him the way you or I see Him...because He is a Spirit and those that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

The world needs a savoir..of course Mr. Obama is not the savior. However, people are looking for hope...they need someone to lead them, Jesus called us sheep and sheep needs a shepherd.

People don't fully understand why they do the things they do, but this is why as believers, it is OUR JOB to bring them to Him, by our witness of who He is in our lives.

Don't let it get to ya....there is nothing new under the sun.

Blessings!

Yes, Semo...he is only a man.

You can support someone without obsessing. IMO people have crossed the line from supporting to obsession. Some of the people I know talk about him constantly not only as a politician but his personal life too. The crying and the fainting is just too much. If it were me and I became famous overnight I would be sure that people understood that I was NOT God and that their lives shouldn't be centered around mine. It might not be good PR but I'd feel more comfortable about it.

Oh, so maybe I missed it. Did Mr. Obama tell people that that he was God????

Whatsoever these people are doing, we must be careful as believers, not to judge them for what they are doing, but we should be examples and love them and show them the way to God.

Blessings to you!

For me it's not even about Obama. It's about obsession period. I'm not judging them, I'm speaking truth. We should not be obsessing over MAN period point blank.

I pray for Bush all the time. He is leading this country and I pray God is leading him.

I disagree with you on the bolded part. Yes Obama should be admired but he is a man. Some of the things I see are over the top. This is not just about Obama, this is really about any actor/actress who are put so high in a pedestal and makes me wonder if God is that high on their pedestal.

I never said that we should be obsessing over a MAN. And who are you referring to when you say "WE?"

When I made the statement of judging, that was a general statement, not addressed directly to you.

Anyways, have a good rest of the day.

I pray for President Bush as well...have been for many, many years. I also pray for Mr. Obama.

People have a right to feel however they want to feel..just like you and I do. People feel like I shouldn't talk about Jesus the way I do, but I do it anyway because this is what I want to do.

I totally understood what the OP question was. If she wanted to find the answer from the actors/actresses she was talking about, she would have to ask them, but...she came into the CF and asked, therefore I answered in the way that I felt was right.

It's ok to disagree with me, I don't mind. But, to say that people are wrong to feel the way they feel about someone they feel can lead them and this country...that's not right...we all are free in USA and we should be free to express our sentiments the way we want to.

Nice talking to you again, Keen.

ETA: we are on a hair forum. we talk about many, many things and there are lots of people who obsess about their hair. do I say to them that they are wrong for that and that they are 'over the top?" No, I would never do that, just like I don't want people to tell me that I am 'over the top' because I speak about God the way I do.

Just wanted to add that.

Blessings.

The statement about obsession was a general statement as well. "We" meant believers... Am I offending you or something? :perplexed

Um, please do not ask this question at the Political forum or you'll be like the Messiah and crucified... :nono:

It's a madhouse in there and 'Bama can do NO WRONG!

You'd think he is the 'second coming' the way some posters are carrying on

No, I don't get offended that easily.

Ok...I see you meant believers.

Well, I'll let the other believers come in and voice how they feel about it.

Blessings to you, always.

Blossss...you have been on this forum forever...you know how people do. They give Bush the same "limelight" as they do Obama, but they aren't giving him the 'dog' treatment like they do Bush.

People are going to be people...you know that.

Remember that thread you started in the Hair Forum? Did you think it was going to go down like that? No, you didn't...same thing.

I'm not an Obama fan, a Hillary fan, or for any of these people that are trying to become president....so, I'm not taking up for anyone on this board or the political forum...I'm a fan of God!

OMG! :lachen: I can't believe this..."Is Obama the Messiah?'

Okay, the same "worship" and or adoration can be said of Ronald Regan, George Bush, who could do no wrong in some folks eyes! Also, John F. Kennedy or Martin Luther King, Jr would fit this bill. Let's through in Elvis Presley while we're at it. Oh and lets not forget the former KKK Member President Harry Truman..., oh and the "Founding "slave owning" Fathers of the country were all overly favored and "worshipped" or idolized, however you want to phrase it.

IMO, the only thing Obama brings to the table is that he's BLACK (or for some black looking) and a Politician. If he were black or black looking, a minister and a proponent of civil rights perhaps he would be placed in high regard and seen as humble aka MLK,JR. The flattering comments of appreciation of his views would be seen as just that flattering comments and not as worship.

Unfortunately all this labeling is in direct result that Obama is simply a man with noticeable african "negroid" features. IMO, without those characteristics, there would be no such threads of his anti-christ-izms or messiah like status. He'd just be a politician with some good sound and rational views on present day political issues.

If there are INDIVIDUALS who are fawning over Mr. Obama, I say let them. People stand in endless lines for tickets to see him, Hillary, Oprah, Brad & Angelina, as well as Rock stars, Movie Stars, ball players, race car drivers, Soccer players, Rappers, Pop Stars, Britney Spears, Creflo Dollar, Bishop Jakes and host of other religious leaders. IMO, the so called "worship" was no different from those folks that followed "John The Baptist" and any prophet of that day. The people have always followed charasmatic individuals, including Jesus.

Good post!

I don't begin to understand how anyone in their right mind would make the connection between Obama and the Messiah. Obama is running for the highest office in the land, and as a black man he's experiencing great success. It's amazing to see, and personally, I never thought I'd see a black man get this close to the WH in my lifetime. This is history in the making, and I think many rational people would understand that the process is exciting for everyone, particular black people.

But make no mistake about it, though I support Obama, I don't think of him as the Messiah. Obama didn't shed his blood on the cross to save my life. JESUS CHRIST did that. My faith is in JESUS, and my hope is that Obama will win the WH and make history. I can't speak for Halle Berry. Only she knows her relationship with the LORD, if she has one. But as to the women in the Political forum, the forum was created to discuss politics, and Obama is the exciting news of the season. Some of us really enjoy politics, and we love talking about it. Why not give us the benefit of the doubt that we know Obama is a mere mortal, not a god amongst men?

Precious Wavy...you have spoken an undisputed truth and nothing but the truth. And we who love the Lord and in whom we believe, live this truth each and every single living day of our testimony of Him.

God has NEVER been popular. Never! Sin has...Sin is, the stubborn will of man, but God has never been popular.

Except with us who love Him and believe Him and honor Him.

Between your post and Pebbles...I'm shouting right here :yahoo: Cause both of you have spoken the truth up in here.

Glory.....to His name.

Shimmie...Pebbles can tell it, right?

Yes, you are right...except those of us who love Him and believe Him and are doing what He desires of us...He is popular indeed!!!

Love you, sis!

No, but people are probably excited about the thought of voting for someone instead of going through the motions of performing their civic duty.

I just had a conversation recently with my aunt about how I wanted to find a church where there was not so much cheering, shouting, and jumping; 2 or 3 hours of an emotional high, usually followed by 10 minutes of word.

Pebbles puts it out there plain and simple. And so do you. Like I said, you both have me shoutin' up here in my livingroom....:yahoo: Love it!

Love you too, angel. :hug2:

I agree with the both of you. I do see it as idolatry, and I never was able to relate to that; and I dont' want to either. I dislike how others can praise man and not God. But I don't see it any different than what many do in the church. Alot of worshippers actually worship the pastor or bishop, but act as if they are praising God. That is also idolitry.

I have heard of man idolizing man many times before. Wanna know of one going right now, search the net for the President of North Korea, who has his country mentally paralyzed and excommunicated from the rest of the world. They even believe that he heal them when their ailments were cured my surgery and other procedures, when it's the president who keeps them from getting the essentials they need to stay healthy. They don't even see the power to think for themselves, and they don't even want it.

We just have to accept that many people are followers, and we choose who we want to follow: for some it's God, for some it's man, for others, it's neither.

For me it's not even about Obama. It's about obsession period. I'm not judging them, I'm speaking truth. We should not be obsessing over MAN period point blank.

Amerikan, I totally agree with you. Let me tell you why.....I put a man before GOD. I didn't even realize that I was worshipping him--obsessed with him. The man was someone I dated. My thoughts were about him and at the same time I would TRY to worship GOD. The problem was that I put the man first. GOD didn't like it and let me know directly. Ever since, I try to insure that I always put HIM first. HE is so amazing! :notworthy

No, but people are probably excited about the thought of voting for someone instead of going through the motions of performing their civic duty.
There it is. For the most part I've voted robotically, not with my full heart. This is the FIRST time I've ever been sincerely interested in politics. Why? Because it finally identifies with me. Yes it is because he's Black, but not the only reason. For there are many, many Black candidates for other offices, that I never felt lead in my heart or intelligence to vote for.

Obama is different...not God. Just different, and he is the change that gives me a 'purpose' for going to the polls for the first time in my voting life, because I 'want' to. No longer do I feel like a robot, standing in line waiting with an empty heart, to vote for someone that I cannot identify with. I now have a purpose. A real one.
