I use a du- rag to tie my bun up at night, can this be considered a satin scarf or do I need to go all the way and get something else. Describe what you tie your hair up with.

what about a polyester or rayon scarf instead of silk or satin. its still smooth. . .?

Yep! It will work as long as it is smooth. The smooth ones don't suck your hair dry and they don't snag and pull at your hair, thus preventing dryness and breakage.

I knew a girl who tied her hair up with one of those cotton print bandanas & her hair grew longer than I'd ever seen it & was very healthy. I don't think the material matters as much as how the hair is under the scarf or bonnet.

I tie my hair up with one of those big satin scarves from Sally and sleep on one of the Satin pillow cases from Sally. Even my shower cap is lined with satin from, you guessed it ---> Sally Beauty Supply, lol

; I think it's called satin secret or something like that, it is a wonderful discovery I made over the summer.

I think you might be alright with the Du-rag. I used to use my son's baby Du-rag and my hair did seem to dry out.

I used to use my drawstring bonnet. Now I use a Christina you tie it Satin Wrap. The package says "Long tails tie easily in front, back or side." It's like a modified Du-rag
in that it has the 2 ties (wider) without the middle tail. I purchase it either from Wal-mart or Sally's.

I used to use cotton and my edges were in tact and my hair was still long. Now I use some smooth scarf that is polyester. It is the same to me. Actually I kinda liked the cotton better. It would get all greasy after awhile (I oiled my ends before going to bed waaaaay before hair boards) and the oil locked in the scarf actually made my hair seem nicer, smoother and fresher in the morning...Imagine that.
