Is it possible when relaxing natural hair for the first time to leave the ends..

Sorry for asking but I couldn't find a thread in the search engine that answered my question.
Due to taking Roaccutane my hair has thinned and now looks awful. However, for the last 6 months my hair has been in braids and I have now gained about 3-4 inches of growth.

I plan to cut off all the relaxed, thinned, hair that suffered while taking the medication and start anew (And hopefully have hair that is the same length all over).

I plan to keep putting my hair into braids, but I want to relax my hair again and keep it healthy.

Now my question is, when I cut off my hair the ends of my hair will be completely natural and very strong. Could I relax the whole of my hair but leave the very ends say like 0.5in. Since the ends of the hair are the hardest to look after and break off easily, I could maintain these easier if they were natural.

(Or I'm I just talking rubbish :perplexed anyone had this idea?)

I don't know about the whole ends thing and whether or not it will work or not, but my advice is to wait to relax your hair. It seems like your hair was really weak before and it may still need time to heal. And even your NG that grows in could still be temporarily weakened from taking the medication. Why don't you focus on alternating between protein/moisturizing deep conditioning treatments for a couple of months until you gain more strength and thickness and then relax, if you want to. You could event try not relaxing your hair all the way (texlaxing) so you can retain some of your curl pattern and hair strength. Just my humble opinion :).

I agree with Denise. Two textures, if not maintained properly, will break off. If you are natural and the hair is healthy, why are you relaxing again? Can you maintain without relaxing?

I am also not sure why you want to relax. If you are going to continue to wear braids than I think that you should go ahead and cut off the relaxed ends. Then you should make sure that you are giving your lots of moisture and TLC. When your hair is as long as you want and healthy than consider relaxing it...I would also recommend texlaxing but I am biased!
