Is it okay to use a neutralizing shampoo on the regular instead of a shampoo?

...because my hair (always) actually feels clean after 'pooing a relaxer out with a neutralizing shampoo.

Of course. Neutralizing shampoo is just like any other shampoo - not all alike and some better than others.

In fact, many “regular” shampoos are neutralizing anyway, they just don’t label them as such.

I think it is more important to make sure the ingredients and results suit you and your hair. If it is not stripping and keeps your hair in the condition you want, just like any other product, use it.

Oh. Now I feel stupid :look:

With that said, I'll be using neutralizing shampoos from now on. They feel so much better. :yep:

I also prefer the way neutralizing shampoos feel on my hair. They make the strands feel softer to me. I don't know how to properly describe it. I would dare to say that relaxed strands probably need to use neutralizing shampoos more often so that the ph of the strands can remain balanced. It makes a big difference in the hair.

never thought about this. good point. I tried the DT neutralizing poo after my relaxer and my hair felt okay and the same thing happened with the NTM cream lather shampoo. I will try them again and pay closer attention to how my hair reacts and decide on which to use as my staple shampoo.

The French Stabilizer condish that everyone is raving about now (my mother used it on me since I was a little girl) is also a neutralizing product. That is probably why it helps the hair to be so silky.

;-)

I agree. I am not sure if it is true or not - I just strive to use products that are pH balancing. I like when a bottle says that is balances the pH. THe Joico K-Pak shampoo is great. It says on the bottle that is has a pH of 4-5 and it is not labeled as a "neutralizing" shampoo. But, it makes my hair feel good and I use it on relaxer day - lower pH and protein replenishing at in one! :yep: (I still use the neutralizing shampoo too - I need the color code alarm to be sure I got that mess out!)

Anyway, I guess it is all in the same way that ACV rinses make the hair feel so good.

I thought neutralizing shampoos were more harsh then regular shampoos :ohwell: School me! lol

I think some are harsh. I have one that is very drying. It was a cheap watery one off brand one that I bought. I hate it. But there are some nice neutralizing shamoos out here – Mizani Butter Blends, ORS Aloe, Motions Oil Moisturizer Moisture Neutralizing, and others.

CON is a nutralizing shampoo also, though i dont think its labeled that way. The professional on my be labeled.

If I remember correctly, neutralizing shampoo should have lower PH than other shampoo. Since relaxers tend to have a PH level of about 12 or 13. Some of the as much as 14 which is the highest PH level. Neutralizing shampoos are suppose to be very acid, meaning PH level below 7 (I think 3 or 4). Shampooing your just relaxed hair which already has a very high PH level with an acidic shampoo should ideally bring your hair PH level to 7 (which is neutral)

I would not doubt that some regular shampoos have a low PH level. But of course we won't know that because the manufacturer will not tell you.

DITTO to whole post. I LOVE that shampoo and many of the other joico ones for that reason. All of them have a low pH which will neutralize.
