Do you think Biotin or Henna makes your hair straighter?
I have been blaming Henna but could Biotin be the culprit.
Or was it the combination :perplexed
what do you think:look:

I accidently picked biotin, but i truly feel it is henna.I've experienced some unwanted straightening from henna.

Wait wait wait wait wait. So if I use henna by itself my hair will get straighter? How straight are you guys talking about? Like slightly straight or straight with a big "S"?

*adds henna and MSM to the list of things to research and possibly buy*

I did my first Henna treatment last week and I will say this BEFORE the treatment I had my typical waves from my 6 weeks of new growth, after the treatment they are no where to be found! I dont know if its good or bad but I guess Ill be stretching my relaxers longer now or as Isis did I may try Alma to get a bit of my texture back.

Oh shyt.

I did a henna treatment to make my hair thicker, so I probably lost whatever curl there was.

Can't a girl catch a break?

Please?

 I feel I understand your enthusiasm Navsegda! I can almost see the wheels turning in your head!

The ladies here haven't really been discussing henna being a natural hair straightener (except in the Henna/Natural Hair thread) but it seems to be true. A safe hair straightener at that.
*wonders if it will straighten new growth*

As I mentioned, I used 50 grams of Amla the first time with my 200 g of henna and 200 g of indigo and pretty much kept my texture. The second time (two days later), I did a henna/indigo/honey gloss with only a tablespoon of amla and my hair is straighter than before, not a lot though. And that was just a gloss!

Next time, I'm adding more amla to my gloss just to see how much curl returns. I'll have to research this a bit since amla is so acidic--don't want to use too much. It sounds like I can go back and forth, if I choose, from straight to textured to straight again...:scratchch

I'm getting ready to post a thread about some recent info I found on amla restoring curls and waves.

Yeah, what she said. If it gets your hair straighter, especially w/o having to use heat, I definitely want to add that to list of things to buy. I've been taking biotin (and lots of it, and my hair DEFINITELY isn't straight).

So I would vote for henna!

So if you wanted to get your hair more straight, would you suggest not adding amla to the henna mix. Can I just mix henna and water?

Many of the ladies here and elsewhere just do henna and water., which means their hair is probably more straight. Remember that this water/henna mix will add red to whatever your hair color is now.

Henna and indigo combined would also make the hair more straight.

Yes indeedy! You can use add amla or just use an amla mix. I'm getting ready to post a thread on that (I lost my Internet connection before) :fan:

Is that indigo colored henna or is indigo something different? Thanks!:)

Indigo is a completely different plant. It actually leaves a deep blue stain by itself. By adding it to already mixed and color-released henna in certain ratios, one can get brown colors down to off black. Or one can get blue-black hair by doing a henna treatment by itself, then an all indigo treatment.

I think it's the henna. I thought I was imagining it at first, but my hair (especially at the back) is definitely straighter.

Does henna make the hair any softer? I like my natural texture, I just wish it weren't so coarse.

Shikakai and amla and Brahmi powder do the same thing for me. Releases the curl. bonjour

Salut!

Where can I find these products? In an Indian store?

Or in the hair store?

I'm on a quest, I want curls by tomorrow! :lachen:

I'll have to research this a bit since amla is so acidic--

I put henna in my hair for the first time this weekend just as a conditioner, not to color...or so I thought. I'm not sure now. I thought you needed acid to release the dye and since everyone said they either put lemon juice or acv in thier mixes, I thought I was doing good by NOT putting that in my mix. I had NO IDEA that amla was acidic! I guess that's why my hair did have a reddish tinge after the first wash. I ended up having to condition my hair about 4 times because my hair felt rough and stripped....but on the other hand, I see MORE of my curl pattern.

Definitely Henna I'm natural 4b and I've only used henna twice and my hair is straighter now my twist are pitifully thin but the wash and go is great! I think i'll do henna every 4 to months or stop it

Natural hair can be quite disturbing and astonishing isn't it ? I have never imagine all it "capacity and versatility" before becoming natural!
I'm sure that if I'm rollersetting now without heat my hair will come out quite straight since henna make it like texturized hair!

Funny you said this..I'm about to try that very same thing ..with foam rods.

Henna definitely straightens the hair, but I'm wondering if it is more so "weighing down" the hair and making it straighter. You know how light and fluffy a sponge feels when it's dry and then you wet it and it feels heavy and full. That's how my hair feels now....that's the best way I can try and describe it. My hair now air dries straight...it has never done this before. I used to get a head full of curls in my relaxed hair when I air dried. That was a great wash and go style, but I can't get it to do that anymore. However, my new growth is basically the same. Maybe a little more coily versus tight and frizzy, but not straight. I don't mind the texture change though. With the condition that my hair is in now, the tradeoff is worth it to me.;)

I voted that neither have that effect on my hair.

Henna has made my hair thicker (temporarily), and a tad dryer......... and Biotin definitely makes it thicker (permanently).

But thats about it. :)

Henna has changed my texture more than I ever thought possible.

Today was my first day seeing my loose natural hair since I did the henna (I've been wearing kinky twists), and my 4b hair, which had NO curl pattern, is now a true 4a. My entire head is clumps of ringlets and spirals.

I'm sitting here in utter shock...I had no idea that this type of dramatic change was possible with henna. I've been taking the maximum dose of biotin, too (5 mg), but I don't really think that supplements affect your existing hair, I think they can only change the new growth. The henna touched all of my hair, so I'm convinced that it's behind the texture change.

The henna definitely makes your hair straighter. My curl pattern is non existent now. After being a member of these forums for two years and applying henna for that same length of time curls that I disliked before I can't get back. I'm stuck with twist outs to revive the absent curl pattern...
