Is hair type etched in stone or subject to interpretation?

btw gym, are you a freakin chemistry major? cuz girl I could learn a lot from you about the molecular structures of protein that project from the epidermis of which the primary content is keratin consisting of long chains of amino acids otherwise known as HAIR.:lachen:

you need on a white lab coat and some goggles...for real

I TOTALLY THINK THERE IS A SPECIFIC DIFFERENCE IN HAIR TYPE.. ITS IGNORANT TO THINK OTHERWISE OF SOMETHING THAT IS SO NOTICEABLE. I THINK IT COMES TO THE POINT WHEN PPL MAY NOT WANT THEIR HAIR TYPE BE DESCRIBED AS NAPPY OR NOT GOOD OR NOT REALLY BLACK IS WHERE THE PROBLEM ARISES. BUT TRUTH IS THERE IS A DIFFERENCE... I THINK SOME PPL JUST GET HURT BY SOME OF THE COMMENTS MAD ABOUT THEIR HAIR. SAY YOU HAVE TIGHTLY COILED 4B HAIR AND SOMEONE SAYS UR HAIR IS NAPPY ( WHICH IS NOT A BAD WORD IN MY OPINOION) THEY MIGHT GET UPSET BECAUSE THATS CONSIDERED NO GOOD WHICH IS NOT TRUE.. ON THE OTHER HAND IF SOMEONE HAS 3C TEXTURE HAIR GIRLS WILL SAY OH YOU NOT FULLY BLACK AND TAHT YOUR HAIR ITS NOT AS HARD TO MANAGE... SO I THINK THATS WHAT FUELS THAT FIRE.... ITS A PERSONALLY IDIENTITY ISSUE SOME OF US HAVE... NOT ACEEPTING WHAT WE ARE AND LOVING OUR HAIR REGARDLESS OF WHAT TEXTURE IT IS

hairtyping schmairtyping:nono:
Andre's system is wack... yes it helps as a indicator but it's waaayyyy to limited in the 3-4 range.
I have yet to see a hairtyping system including LOIS and the other one that is floating around that describes my hairtype properly.

If you were to type properly one would need to include frizziness versus sleekness, curldefinition, waves, curldiameter etc.
I just look at other people's fotki and see if they have similar curls/kinks/waves like me:yep:

:lachen: I am actually a chem major but I probably will graduate in Biology since it would be faster for me to finish in that. I really just read alot and bounce off ideas with some members here and then go search the board for trends and stalk fotkis to tet my theories. I read cosmetic chem books and material when I can.

ITA - but one thing about type 4 hair is upon contact with water- it shrinks so theres no running the comb through it from scalp to ends.

I think it depends on your hair. My hair doesn't shrink right away when it gets wet. And even once it's fully wet it doesn't shrink up all the way. Water weighs my hair down and then it shrinks up as it dries. It'll be more compacted if after airdrying unmanipulated than wet. I can comb from scalp to ends in the shower. I usually don't until after I detangle my hair the other way around. But I can do it. And with a smaller comb.
