I know many of you are probably interested in your kids hair health as well, but I guess the growth comes along with it too. I know I intend to grow and maintain the health of my kid's hair when I have them.

1. How long is your child's hair?

2. Is it relaxed/natural?

3. How old is your child?

1. Almost at her waist

2. Natural

3. 20 mths

Let me add, she's a 3a with spiral type curls just beyond shoulder length. When the hair is stretched or wet, it's really close to her waist. I'm thinking about posting some "masked" pics.... I'll see....

My youngest son wants his hair long, he's obsesed with his curls which only come out the longer his hair gets. After a shower he chases me with Motions Leave-in, convinced that without it his hair will be straight.
He's having a few issues

with his skincolor. My eldest is borwn, like me but Deav looks completely white, blue eyes, mousy blond hair. It just hit him that he might never turn brown like me so he's concentrating on his curls instead.
Needless to say my boys are just as vain as their mommy!

Aww he sounds like a cutie.

I'm growing my little girls hair. She's two years old with natural 3a/b hair that's mid back, maybe three inches from her waist. When she was a infant she had really thin, fine straight hair that she rubbed off on her blankets. It was too fine to plait or braid. Her texture changed when she was about to turn one. It became much thicker with some curl... I could then put it in a ponytail.

I am growing my daughter's hair. She has a 2a/b mix and it is relaxed. Her hair is about 4 inches past shoulder length and very healthy. I use no lye relaxer in her hair but I am thinking about switching to lye. I relax her hair about every 4 months now because her hair can be brushed straight if needed. I only trim as needed. My little girl is seven.

I have 2 daughters ages 7 and 9. My 7 year olds hair is past her shoulders and my 9 year olds is in the middle of her back. I use leave in conditioner and I use Motion's for Kids Relaxer in normal. I also keep their hair braided which is really helping it grow especially since the water over here is so hard. Now I can grow their hair with no problem, but I can't seem to grow mine because of the water. I also deep condition their hair and they sleep with a silk or satin doo rag on which stays on their heads at night when their asleep. The scarfs kept on coming off so I've gotten better results out of the doo rag. Also since I put a relaxer in their hair I trim their split ends if they have any. I relax their hair every 4 months.
I just started relaxing my 7 year old this year and I only live it in no more than 10 minutes just long enough to straighten her wavy hair a little bit.

Good luck,

My daughter is two in a half years old her hair is shoulder length type 2a. When it's wet it's really curly and it's past her shoulders when stretched out. Then after it dries it's frizzy. I want to know have you experienced dryness and have to use detangle spray after washing. Also what products do you all use on your daughter's hair? I was thinking about relaxing my daughter's hair if so what relaxer do you use or should I keep it natural for a while?

I think you are making a big mistake in relaxing her hair. She is too young and you don't want to damage her hair. My mom started perming my hair when I was like 8 years old and it started thinning out. I know that my hair dresser WILL NOT under any circumstances perm anyones hair under 12 years old. She said they need to go through puberty and all of those changes before putting chemicals in their hair. My daughter just turned 3 and sometimes I just press her hair...like once every 2 weeks or so. But you really should wait on the relaxer...she's waaayyy too young IMO.

Tbcool03,

Please don't relax her hair just yet. I say wait a few more years. For my daughter, I use CON shampoo, a rinse out conditioner like suave awapuhi (sp?), oil her scalp with extra virgin olive oil, I then protect her ends with Elasta QP's mango butter. Do you leave her hair loose after washing? If I do this with mines her hair gets frizzy too. So I put her hair into 4-6 large twists to air dry. If I want to style it in ponytails or something later, it's much more manageable. All most forgot, I don't use detangling spray. I just keep a spray bottle with some water in it. I spray her hair first, then apply the oils. Hope this helps.

I relaxed my daughter's hair when she was six. I did it because I had spent so much money on products I didn't know what to do anymore. My daughter's hair is 2a/b wavy and very fine and it is very very dry and it dried frizzy. It is very easy to comb but was unmanageable as far as styling. After school she would always be the little girl with her hair flying everywhere. She was experiencing a lot of breakage so I decide to relax. That was the best thing I ever did for her hair. She has gained so much length since relaxing. It's been about
1 1/2 years since I have done it. I just try to keep the ends trimmed and keep it as moist as possible. She is currently in braids and I think I will keep it that way for a while. As far as relaxing a 2 year old's hair, I understand your dilema but that is a little too soon. They say if you have to wait at least until they are between 8 and 10. I was very desperate and I am getting the results that I desire.

1. How long is your child's hair?

Her hair when wet is about 2 inches past shoulder length when wet. Her hair is curly though. The shrinkage brings it up to shoulder length.

2. Is it relaxed/natural?

Natural. Her hair type is a 3b (I think). I've decided not to relax or let her relax until she's at least 16 y/o. I love her little ringlets! And I love learning to work with it. It's weird though in that it frizzes like crazy when I try to keep it in cornrows for a week.

3. How old is your child?

She'll be 6 in August

I take care of my niece's hair because she now lives with me. Her hair was a mess about 4 or 5 months ago, but I'm now seeing some wonderful results. At first I tried different products on her hair to see what it loved the most. I believe her hair is a little 3b and a little 4a. When it's wet, it gets real curly and beautiful.

I wash her hair with CON and add a little coconut oil while it still wet. After she is fully clothed and I'm ready to comb her hair, I detangle it with Motions leave-in (great detangler for her hair), then I add castor oil. Her hair LOVES the castor oil!

I've never measured my own hair and I haven't done her hair either. When I finally take pictures, I'll post both hers and mine.

1. How long is your child's hair?

Her hair is about 2 inches past her shoulders when stretched out. Shrinkage brings it back to the nape of her neck when dry.

2. Is it relaxed/natural?

She is natural and her hair type is a 3c/4a.

3. How old is your child?

She is 7 going on 27! My boo!!!

I would like to keep her hair natural forever if at all possible. I love her hair and think that it's absolutely beautiful! The only problem that I have is dryness after washing. I wash with CON and condition with LeKair Cholesterol once a week, after which I do an ACV rinse (1:8 ratio). Her hair is fine until it dries. Then it feels dry and hard to the touch. I have to soak it with a detangler before I can comb it. Can anyone help me this? Do you ladies have to use a detangler and some sort of moisturizer everytime you comb your daughter's hair?

1. How long is your child's hair?

My daughter's hair is about an inch past her shoulders.

2. Is it relaxed/natural?

Natural

3. How old is your child?

9 years old

Speaking from experience, I would not advise putting a relaxer in a child's hair until they are about 12. I put one in my daughter's hair at age 5 and while it did grow, it got so damaged that I had to get her hair braided to prevent further damage but unfortunately the damage was already done. Last year, I had to cut off the damaged parts of her hair down to just 3 inches. I've been braiding it off and on for over a year in box braids. She recently had a press and trim and now has healthy natural hair an inch past her shoulders....

Thank you all so much for the replies. I'm not going to relax her hair my husband and both her grandmothers told me not too. They told me she has a beautiful grade, and that I do not want to mess it up. It's just after I wash i'm going to have to work with it a little more!!! I'm going to change her shampoo to CON instead of using African Pride Shampoo and conditioning. Also after I wash her hair I will stop using the Motions detangling spray, and just apply the ALLWAYs Castor Oil grease and keep my bottle of water to the side. I also apply Extra Virgin Olive Oil on her hair too!!! Which is good I put it on my hair too! What products could I use to keep it moisturized???? My daughter have good hair that's curly it just dries out and that's just something I'm going to have to get used to her natural hair. I think what it is that I'm just used to maintaining my relaxed hair however when I style it won't mess up!!!! I really do appreciate you all for your help. I know with the help of this board; I will get good results on my daughter's hair just as well as mine. My husband commends me alot on my daughter's hair since this is our first child and then a girl at that!!! I can do some hair it looks so cute however I do it!!! I started learning how to braid last year, and I keep her hair braided alot. It's braided now and I was going to continue washing every week or two weeks (depends on how frizzy it gets then i'll take it down) and then braiding it back this whole summer. I rather do that then keep putting ponytails in all the time. I also told my husband by the time he come back from Korea for good (in October) our daughter and my hair will grow maybe at least 3 inches. I told him about this hair board I've been

at. Alright thanks again, and I will be posting after I take my daughter's braids out next week and wash with the CON!!!!!

1. How long is her hair?

At the nape of her neck

2. Relaxed or natural?

Relaxed

3. How old is she?

13

My daughter had beautiful hair when she was a child. I'd say her hair type is probably a 3c, like mine. It was sooo long; when wet it was almost waist length, and taking care of it was a task, trust me!! But I gladly did it, because I loved it!! Anyway, unfortunately she was going to a school where there weren't many other black girls, and when she was about 7, she started whining endlessly about how much she didn't like her hair because she couldn't wear it out. People started asking me "when are you gonna put a perm in that hair?, I don't know how you deal with all that hair!!" I guess the pressure got to me, cuz when she was 8, I broke down and took her to get it relaxed. Well, that was the beginning of the end of her hair. At first it looked gorgeous, so long, straight & silky, but then it started breaking off; especially since she goes to summer camp every year, where she swims every day during the summer.

Anyhow to make a long story a little shorter

, I ended up stopping the relaxer for about 2 years. I started taking her to have it pressed, which honestly did her hair no good either. So finally I went back to relaxing, and after last summer in the pool, the edges broke off terribly. It's starting to come back in now, and I'm hoping to be able to get thru summer camp and the pool this year w/o any setbacks. Pray for us!!
