Anyone not have Trouble Growing Hair?

Honestly? I think that assuming you are healthy, under only a minimum to moderate amount of stress, and are getting enough nutrients/water in - no one really has a problem with hair coming out of their scalp - that's what hair does, it grows. Just like our skin cells shed, whether we want them to or not, hair grows, whether it looks like it is or not.

It's the OTHER end of the strand where most of (our) my problems come in - I'm either cutting it, breaking it off, or being to harsh with it in general, so I cain't retain what I'm growing.

I've also noticed the increased thickness since I've started this journey - my hair is actually SHORTER (cutting out all of the bleached/colored bits) but it's a good half a head thicker, so I'm not complaining.

I have honestly never had a problem with growing hair or retaining length. Actually when I was growning up, most of my black girlfriends had long hair too. No matter the complexion, we all had at least shoulder length and longer hair. My problem is staying away from the scissors and the color. Some of my childhood friends had problems once they were allowed to get a relaxer, but most of them just wanted to be grown and get a cute, short cut...even in middle school. (Think back to the Halle Berry and Toni Braxton days.) My mom would never have allowed me to get a short cut that young. She flipped out when I cut it short in college, and she still talks about it.

I never knew that so many people thought that black women couldn't have healthy, long hair until I found this board. Because we all had long hair, I knew we could have it, I just always thought the problems came from what we did to it. Even some of my white friends had damaged hair from bad colors or overprocessed perms. They would have ridiculous split ends and have to cut it to start over and nurse it back to health.

The fact that so many black women are running to get relaxers every 4 weeks show that black hair is growing. The logical thing is that the problem is in what they are doing to it.
