Is 2 years too long?

In two years my hair will be mid back length, which is pretty much my goal. Although I love changing my hairstyles, I have commited to wearing protective styles (ie. phony phony and baggie) consistantly during that time and doing various treatments on my hair.

The thing is, I dont want to cut/trim my hair AT ALL during this time. I am just curious to see how long I can get it.

Is 2 years too long to go without a trim? Will I be setting myself up for disaster? Will I be forced to chop most of the length off when I do actually go to a hairdresser?

Let me know what u think..

As long as your ends arent damaged like crazy I dont see whats so wrong... Maximum Id go 1 year without trimming but I wouldnt go 2. I think you can do better damage control before it worsens if you trim more often. I like cutting my hair :) That way the ends can split further up and when Im done its all even. But most of all Id go by sight. If it looks to be in need trim it.

I don't see anything necessarily wrong with it. My Mom never trims and her hair is mid-back. She has lots of split ends, but she can comb through her hair easily. If you are getting major tangles and breaking off the ends trying to comb through it, I think you may be getting counterproductive at that point. I'm trying to go one year without trimming too. I'm on the waist length challenge, but I think bra strap is more realistic for me, and mid-back would definitely be a nice unexpected outcome.

I don't think 2 years is too long. Babygurl has gone 2 years or longer without trims and her ends look great. You might want to check out her album. Also, Cathy Howse does not trim, and her hair looks fine, however, I wouldn't follow that...no, you do not need to trim to grow black hair, which is her mantra, but I would think over 14 years or however long that her hair would be to her butt if she never cuts it. :look: Me personally, I will not be trimming (1 inch or more) for 2 years, but I do dust the ends (1/4" or so) every other month to keep it relatively even. I don't have any splits, though.

what about dusting??? taking off the bare minimum.

i inspect my ends every two weeks to look for splits and nip them in the bud immediately when i find one.

i haven't had trim since august and will try to go at least a year. when i do decide to trim i will do it myself to avoid "overcutting" by stylists!

I have gone a full year bunning every day and not trimming at all and my ends looked great. Check my album. So yes I think if you protect and moiturize your ends very well, you can do it and your hair will also grow. Godd luck. Two years is not too long but be consistent.

caribbeanqueen, it's hard to say.... i finally decided to let my hair grow in march or may of 2000. it was bottom-of-ear length back then...i had a fierce short hair cut...but grew tired of maintaining it....LOL.....now since that time until june of 2004, i had to cut my several times due to damage....so there have been many setbacks....i am guesstimating it actually took 3.5 years to grow to the length it is now...
