That's interesting. Alot of women on here swear by coconut oil....I don't know about it making ur hair grow super fast, because those women have most likely used it religiously since birth....Good article, tho! I've been wanting to use Coconut Oil for moisture.

For your diet, how much of the coconut oil should you take per day to aid in hair growth?

Thanks for the article

Coconut oil is an antifungal, some say thats why it helps hair growth.

Most sites recommend 1-4 tablespoons.

I  coconut oil for my hair. Leaves my hair moisturized and feeling like silk. Everytime I get my hair twisted, she asks what I put in it because it feels slippery.

This is about right. I have heard 1 and 3 1/2 tablespoons so far. I made eggs and a cheese grill with it this morning.

I have only used it for one night and my hair texture has changed dramatically!

I am telling y'all I could never go back to using EVOO. It is so heavy compared to coconut oil. I have put so much coconut oil in my hair, and it is still so light. EVOO takes out my bounce, curls, and body in my hair in no time. I won't be used again.

It has other health benefits. I just posted that one because it was short and sweet. There is so much info on coconut oil. From now on it will be a staple in my hair cabinet and my kitchen.

I will be the LHCF guinea pig for coconut oil. I will tell you ladies how it works out. So far so good.

Where did you get your coconut oil? Someone just told me it can be bought at Menard's and Home Depot.

When I finally discovered coconut oil, I was and still am in heaven (see my sig.). I love it! I use it mixed in with my leave-in and deep conditioner. It reallys makes a difference in how my hair feels.

I just started taking a spoon a day, mixed with oatmeal because I've been feeling really drained lately and I read that it is a good remedy for chronic fatigue. I'm not sure if that's what I have but I decided to give it a shot anyway since my doctor didn't find anything wrong at my last checkup.

I was thinking of ways to use it.

I fried eggs with it this morning

It's actually very tasty! I notice I don't have to put as much sugar in it either..

It is high in fat but it's a good fat. It drives out the bad fat and cholesterol. Palm oil is more like meat cholesterol, it just stays in place and clogs arteries.

Did your eggs taste like coconut or does that taste fade when the oil is heated?

You have to read up on the oil and the history of oils in this country. The oils that are promoted, corn oils, canola oil, vegetable oils, are actually bad for you. Most create trans-fats when heated to high temps. They are rancid on the shelf. If you notice after a while when they oxidize they get sticky around the tops, and are only good for short while. Coconut oil gets solid, but not sticky, it's processed differently from other oils. Believe it or not, lard, beef fat, butter, and coconut oil are better for you than the other oils. They dont cause high cholestrol like we are led to believe. Its all about the $$$$. Soy products, unless fermented, are bad for you too. Its a lot to go into on here but google benefits of coconut oil, dangers of canola oil, dangers of soy, you will find a bunch of good info.

I concur!

I recently found out about the benefits of eating coconut oil. I now mix it in my oatmeal and sometimes I have it by itself. I ocassionally bring my small jar to work and mix it with whatever food I have for lunch.

My breakfest did not have a strong taste like coconut cake or anything, but they had a taste to it. Not very notictable.

Wow, this sounds like a good way to promote overall health! I'm gonna look into this... I have question tho, what is the difference, if any, between Coconut oil and Coconut Milk?

i hope this can be found at wal-mart so i can buy it tomorrow :)
i want to start using it in my food.
for those hwo use it in their hair does it leave a smell?

Yes, it smells just like coconut. I put the coconut oil on my ends and the rosemary oil on my scalp. It is also good for coving up the smell of MTG.

I love coconut oil.It is light and gives me really great shine for my braid-outs(on wet hair for air drying).i cant do my hair without it.I buy mine from eckard, rite aid or walgreens believe it or not!

They have it in food section..or the section where they have imported goods.

I love putting the milk for a pre-poo,It gives my hair new life.
As for cooking with it ..sounds like a plan.If it gives me the same benefits as evoo then i will go for it!

I would go for the "buy 2 get 3 offer" on PP. It's the only way that you can get a halfway decent price. That way it works out to 5 16oz jars for 6.40 a piece (3.49 for 16oz is what I pay)

HOW do you ingest this oil? Do you just cook with it? Are you taking a tablespoon daily like cod liver oil?

Wal-mart has a LuAnn Brand coconut oil, this is a refined oil, not extra virgin. It doesnt have the coconut taste and they may have used chemicals to refine it. I dont know if they have another brand or not. The LuAnn is in the cooking oil section. Personally, I wouldnt purchase the LuAnn brand because I am trying to stay away from the chemical refining. I have read conflicting info about whether or not it has the same health benefits of the virgin coconut oil.

I just got my 5 jars from Puritan's Pride, and I have no idea how to use it! Since it's in solid form, do I just melt it in the microwave and apply it to my hair? :perplexed

The solid melts really easy w/ your body's heat. I just scoop however much and rub it between my fingers or hands and put on my hair.

You could also give it a warm water bath (sit the container in a bowl of hot water) to soften it. :)

Oh, okay. That sounds easy enough. I thought it was going to be some complicated process. Thanks!

I bought Nutiva brand coconut oil. The label says it's organic, extra virgin, and you can cook with it. I have put it on my skin, and hair. It's solid, but melts when you put it in your hands. I have a 15 oz. jar, and got mine from the Vitamin Shoppe.

EVOO did nothing special on my hair. I did a hot oil treatment with it after washing once :perplexed just hair that dried out to a crispy feel. Sooo...does coconut oil work on hair that doesnt like unmixed evoo ?
This might be one of those ...oil vs water people things.
I might try it on my body tho as an alternative for mineral oil which does a good job of locking in moisture.
Anywho, carry on:p

I just read that Vitamin Shoppe sells Coconut oil softgels. Do you guys think this will be as effective? As if I don't take enough supplements.
