I did the big chop, what was funny is the day I cut my super thin disgusting hair off lol, (sorry for the rant) I never new I was actually going to cut it! I looked in the mirror and said OH HELL NO! this has to go and I cut it myself which was pretty horrible to say the least I had to go to a barber for him to fix it up lol, but I felt GREAT! can you tell:D

Yes, I can!;) I love your thickness!

I cut my hair twice from below shouder length to above, once in 2005 and once in early 2006 to get rid of unhealthy see-thru ends. It grew back really nice and healthy.

Mytialpn~How are you maintaining your ends now?

I only needed a trim...only because i was regulary getting my hair trimmed anyway. i just couldn't seem to figure out why i always had split ends, even though i was "moisturizing" daily with pink oil  thank God for you guys...

I found hairboards whilst i was at school. I dyed my hair. My crown literally fell out. I had less than an inch there. ( Imagine sl hair with a half an inch crown:eek: ) My mother could not cornrow my hair for school and the rest of my family crowded round to look at my bald head. Anyway, my good friend is a skilled cornrower so she did my hair and nobody noticed:lol: . It took me i don't know around a year to grow it back.:look: ( i'm not good with time-i still think its short though) i got my first trim in november and took off around 2 inches- i needed to though.
My younger sister relaxes/transitions yearly. I think it takes 1 year- 18 months to grow out damage. It can be done. Although sometimes i wish i'd just BC'd- my mother didn't allow me though.

For me, there seemed to be no other way around it. My hair was damaged form years of overprocessing and heat damage.I found that I ended up cutting about an inch every 6-7 months until the past year which I have slowed down with cutting.

I did one agressive trim and then just dusted.

I have to keep the husband happy and he hates when it looks like I cut my hair. He is currently very pleased with my length.:D

I haven't trimmed my hair since beginning my hair regimen. I plan to do so when I reach my hair goals. But I think my ends look okay to say i haven't had a trim in almost a year.

I started off my quest for longer, healther hair with a trim in February 2006. Over the course of the year, I had 6 more trims and started doing frequent S&Ds. Even with all the trims, family and friends were telling me my hair was growing fast -- I know that it was growing at about the same rate but I was retaining length better. Also, last year was the first time in years that my hair grew past my shoulders. Before last year, I didn't ever get regular trims -- maybe once very 2-3 years.

Now that I know how to take better care of my hair/ends, I plan to slow down the trims -- maybe 3-4 times a year.

I'm glad that I didn't BC but did regular trims instead.

I do the whole protein moisture balancing act thing...cowashing,stretching....never trimming/cutting...maybe dust:p ...but i work too hard to maintain my length to cut it:look:

Now to keep my ends healthy I wear protective styles most of the time and keep them moisturized. I really only wear my hair down when it's had a fresh relaxer and it's down for about a week and then back up until the next relaxer which is every 12 weeks. The baggy method at night has helped too.

I had been going natural from 97'-03' and decided that enough was enough. I didn't know how to take care of my hair, and was damaging it with dye and pulling knots and so forth. So while I was in a beauty supply shop I saw this woman looking at product with the most beautiful bouncy hair. I had never seen such healthy hair, and I asked her where she got it done, because I could tell that it was salon fresh! She told me about these Dominican women and how they could do the hell out of hair, and I went to them the very same day!

I decided that I wanted to relax my natural hair, but didn't know that I'd have to cut most off because most was so damaged! When you relax natural hair, you can see what's really going on. Well anyways it was horrible, I had them to chop it all off with only 1" left on my head. I had been bald before I began natural back in 97' so I was already comfortable with a bald head. I trusted that they would take care of my hair and grow it like they said and that's exactly what they did. After 1 year, I switched to a closer Dominican salon, and they did even better hair. I have them to thank for learning how to take care of my hair and keeping it healthy!

I would recommend starting from scratch and finding a Dominican stylist to take care of it.

Well, I'm on the quest for longer hair and I'm on a cutting/trimming strike. I'm primarily wearing braids, but I'm refusing to trim between them. Personally, I've found that letting my hair dresser trim leads to my hair staying at shoulder length. Just this saturday I thought it was going to come to blows with this hair dresser that acted like she was going to force me to trim. She whipped out all of the myths such as my hair won't grow, it's going to split up the shaft, etc. I thought she was going to cry because I wouldn't let her trim  . The next day my aunt told me how healthy my hair looked, and asked me what I use on it. Different thing work for different people, but I think I'll do my future trims.

I cut 7" off at one time after I had joined the board, and I have been cutting off 1" at a time here lately to try and achieve a blunt look. I am about to give up because the V just keeps coming back.

I wish we had some Dominican salons in Memphis.....:(

Since December I've been nurturing my hair without trimming. I wanted to nurse my hair to good health and then start trimming to thicken my hair up and have nice clean, thick ends. In March I began trimming regularly and trimmed 1/2 inch all around. Then when I relaxed my hair a little over a week ago,I trimmed another 1/4 inch in the nape/back(this part is the longest part of my hair). And then today I trimmed another 1/2 inch all around. I'm starting to get a little more aggressive with trimming since I'm very close to my goal.

Yeah, there are none here in Oklahoma either. As soon as I moved here, I called the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and they paused on the phone when I asked. The Hispanic group here is largely Mexican, so that's all they know. Seriously, these Dominican stylists need to move around, they can really make a lot of money because of the reputation they have! They seem to be too comfortable with only the east and west coasts :ohwell:

I plan on trimming away the thin ends. i want to cut like1/2 inch per month. i know i'll be losing length but im tired of my ends looking like someone chewed on them.

I did the BC. If I'd found LHCF before cuttung my hair to above chin length, I'd probably just have nurtured it back to health. I'd probably be at MBL now. Anyway, it still worked out.

I have done some of each at some point during my journey. I initially took the big chop. I have trimmed, now I typically try to dust and nuture w/o cutting however sometimes the ends just have to go.

I had a BC without my consent in the hands of....well...you know. Anyway, my length started accumulating when I decided that I didn't want to pay the extra $24 for a trim everytime I got a relaxer, then I started stretching my relaxers out to about 8 weeks instead of 6. When my hair started approaching BSL again, I chopped off about 5 inches, because the ends looked so ragged. Then I decided to look for ways to take care of it, and I found LHCF. Now, I'm still nursing it back to health, because I think it was burned at the salon the last two times I was there...but, I'm not chopping off anymore. I just trimmed 1/2 inch yesterday, and I'll only trim 1/2 every 3 months, until the damage is gone, or until I pass my goal, then I'll trim back to BSL.

I nursed my hair back to health without any trims. My hair is the longest it's ever been, and it's really healthy too :yep: After my first year anniversary, I'm gonna get a light dusting just to neaten things up.

I trimmed in the beginning of my hair journey as I like to think of it...I trimmed a few inches off but it was way too painful for me to do much more than that. I think it got me off to a good start, now I am just working to maintain my hair, ends and all.

I nursed my hair back. This was back in the 90's and I did not know how to properly take care of my relaxed hair. After all the breakage my bsl hair was destroyed and chin length. I wore braids and weaves while my hair grew back.

ok..sorry OFF TOPIC...pink skates..what do I need to do to have your body...cuz, clearly whatever I'm doing is not working......
