Impact : Bad Economy: How Does It Affect Your Hairlifestyle?

It hasn't affected me at all. I keep my hair needs very simple and realistic. That's eliminated the need for going to a salon or relying on high end products. I was all for getting my hair braided with extensions, but braids aren't realistic now because my hair grows out too damn fast. So I'm most likely done with getting my hair braided and that's fine. It's just me and the wild abyss of my soft, crazy, kinky, curly hair. I love it.

I only do what i think is necessary, so it hasn't changed much.

I go to the salon 2-3 times a year for a DC, flatiron and trim (with tip and tax = $110) (Moving forward, I'll probably stop the DC's and save $30)

No impact on product usage-- I'm pretty minimal and mainly stick to oils-- coconut, olive and sweet almond (unless I'm doing a wash n go, then I'll use some leave-in.) Also, I prepoo with oil/Indian herbs and DC very little, which is WAY cheaper (and more effective IMO).

leave-in = $40 lasts 5 months
conditioner = $50 lasts approx a year
DC = $30 lasts a year
shampoo = $10 lasts 3 months
And I've had the same bottle of Moroccan oil for more than a year and a 1/2 and it's still half full.

No wigs, weaves, extensions. I can do my own braids, cornrows.

No upkeep of relaxer/texturizer.

Yes the economy will affect me in what I will do for my hair, as the end of Feb I lost my job. Even though I have a severance package I watch what I spend.

1. Going to the salon?

I may consider doing my hair myself, but if it needs to be done and still don't feel comfortable DIY I will need to go the salon. However I am strongly considering to be a DIYER, 1) Horror stories I am hearing about SHS 2) Take this opportunity to consider switching over - what a better time to make this move.

2. Funds for Commercial Products?

Since I am not out shopping, only the internet can be a lure and I wasn't a big internet shopper to begin with. If I can justify the purchase, I will follow through. Otherwise don't need it.

3. Purchase of weaves, extensions, wigs?

Since I stopped working I stopped wearing my phony pony and I have gradually not missing them (Save $15 / 2 months). I think I will not go back to them. I can create a bun with my own SL hair now. Not full looking but I am okay with it.

4. Cost of Upkeep of "?

I am not spending much in general and only if I need a product to be replaced. Cost of upkeep is minimal.

5. Frequency of Relaxers or Texturizers?

I relax every 3 months and I do not think I will change the frequency, whether I become a DIYER or not.
