.....
I've decided to transition to natural !I realized that my haircare journey is about having HEALTHY hair first then length will follow !

I need you help !

where do I start ?
What are good styles for transitioning !

I probably will do a BC later on in the year but for right now I want to maintain the two textures!!!!!

I'm sooooo excited, nervous , and scared !

I feel as if I'm discovering LCHF for the first time , again .

I was looking through the natural support thread but some of the info was overwhelming but please help me !

The "stickies" are a great information resource. Since you're new, be sure to check them out. There are lots of links in there that are helpful for newbies.:)

Where I started: I found the hair forums about 16 weeks post (that's when I'd decided to transition). I just started looking at three primary forums--here, Nappturality, Naturallycurly. Now I'd add Happy Curls too. I just lurked on the boards, mostly looking at albums and posts of people who had had a length and texture similar to my own hair, or transitioned for a while. Also, search the forums for "transitioning" and you'll find a bunch of smaller threads people have started about transitioning. The only things I did were to work out my washing/detangling routine and product routine. That took about 3 months to get that down. I became a product and moisture junkie. I had very little breakage during my transition, thank goodness.

Styles: Depends on your preference. I got a set of braids at the start of my transition and after that did braidouts, flexirod ponytails and buns for 99% of my transition. My hair didn't really start to look busted in the buns until about my 11th month. I transitioned for just over a year.

Just wanted to say "Welcome to the natural side!":D :D :D

I have 4b hair with a little 4/a in the front and nape.

I only transitioned for 9 months.

For me the key was moisture to be able to comb through my new growth and to manipulate it into a style.

The relaxed ends never really troubled me, no real tangle issues or anything.

I just washed and deep conditioned weekly as usual and kept it moisturized.

Product selection is personal preference, so you just have to experiment, keeping in mind that what worked for your relaxed hair may or may not work with your natural hair.

Anyway,I kept it I pulled back into a ponytail or bun, to prevent hadling it too much, and I always used a scarf to tie it down in the front.

This is how my transition went:
I got my last relaxer Nov 23 '05.
I flat ironed once: Fourth of July weekend '06.
(That was THE ONLY time I used heat during my transition.)
I big chopped Aug. 30 '06.

So I would advise you to
1) skip the heat as much as possible,
2) stick to a wash/deep condition regimen
3) keep it moisturized!:)

Congratulations on your decision to transition, i hope it goes well for you.

All i can advice is to just let your hair grow, don't stress about it. Me i didn't bother myself too much about th different textures, i was just happy that my hair was growing.

Make sure you moisterise daily and deep condition your hair. I didn't do much with my hair but wear it in cornrows, ponytails and i had extentions put in at one point.
Others usually do braids and twists, braid/twist outs. Definately look at other people's hair albums for inspirations - that helped me.

Most important, have fun learning about your hair texture, find out what products and styles you and your hair likes.

I've since done the chop and loving my all natural hair - so good luck on your journey to healthy natural hair.
