My stylist gave me a hand mirror, so I could see exactly what she was doing. After awhile,I trusted her, and I haven't had any problems since. Sorry to hear about your ordeal.
yeah, she did trim more than i intended, but after wearing it all day, i've made the adjustment. the odd thing is that even though it's shorter, i got more compliments today than i've ever gotten. go figure... i even got quizzed by two women in See's candy. lol! they were writing my regime on their candy boxes.
anyway, the cut itself is really even but tapered into a U-shape, which i kinda like. here's the pic:
i'm thinking that i may have been holding on to unhealthy ends for the sake of length.
i won't wait so long to get maintenance trims in the future so big cuts won't be so necessary and painful...
Lookin good Addrienne! Your hair always looks good. I agree about the trims....I got lazy there about them for a while...but now that I have someone(a co-worker used to be a hairdresser) to trim my hair I plan on doing a 1/4 inch every 2 months....especially since I may be flat ironing every other week and for special occasions. Thanks again about the layers...now that they are long and just at the bottom of my hair I am loving them.
Oh girl chile puleeaze! lol! I thought you had something to worry about. Your hair still looks longer than your original pic.
You'll be waist length in no time! I'll be glad when I have enough hair to get a big trim so I can cry too and have people say...your hair is STILL long!
Adrienne your hair is JUST stunning. Your hair is really at that length at this point that you can trim a little more often and just work on the look. It's BEAUTIFUL. So healthy. So pretty. Don't worry - that cut didn't make a BIT of a difference in any kind of a negative way. I don't know how it looked before, but it is AMAZING now. Just awesome.
I am inspired. Ya make me want to run home and deep condition!
Your hair is BEEUUTIFULLLL! Girl, it looks so healthy! Don't worry - you'll be aight! I had the same issue before, told them to dust and they cut - was pissed when I left the salon. But once I got home and started playing in my hair - it felt 100% times better. I was holding on to dead, scragely(sp) ends. I'd rather have my hair a little shorter and healthy, then tryin' to front with dead ends. Anyway - go girl, cause your hair is da BOMB!

Superhair, should I bring my "knuckle brace" ...

When I was a little girl, my friend was dropped off (not good...) at a salon for a press and curl. She walked in with waist length hair and walked out with shoulder length hair.
The stylist said she "had to cut off all the dead hair". WTF?
The mother calmly left the salon. A few minutes later she came back in a sweatsuit
and beat the stylist up. Onlookers said it looked like the scene from The Godfather where Sonny Corleone beat up his brother in law!
I'm sorry, but that stylist had it coming with the "cut off the dead hair" remark. She obviously didn't learn in hair school that all hair is dead. Idiot.

lol
hair is dead, i guess thats why they wanna cut all of it off.
thanks so much for the compliments, everyone. now i feel even better!! i value your trained-eye opinions so much more than "regular" folks.
sweetcocoa, i don't ever plan to trim on a schedule. i just meant that i knew i needed a trim the last couple of times i went in for a wash & curl. i just didn't do it tryna get to my waist. lol! i think trimming every 8 weeks is good for maintaining a style, not trying to grow. since my hair grows so slow—lately i'm back to ¼" a month—i'd be cutting off half my progress, and it would take that much longer to reach my goal. since we wear our hair in protective styles so much, i can't see it being that necessary. since you do plan to flat iron and wear it down more, by all means check out your ends more often to see if you need it. but i think you'll find that it's not necessary that often either.
tracy, if you run home and deep condition, you know that would make one of us. i can't tell you the last time i did that...
sassygirl, i know violence is wrong, but i agree that that stylist definitely had it coming. that was just wrong! i think there was someone who posted here that said it happened to her too when she was young.
It does not look shorter at all Adrienne, it does look longer! I'm so glad you posted a picture. I know a 1 1/2 inch trim is not what it takes to get you to post a pic, now is it? Love and kisses to you! I'm really sincere--I definitely see the progress you've made.

I hope you are right...until I have the first trim I won't feel real comfortable with flatironing more than once a month. I see how it goes in 6 weeks(I had a trim 2 weeks ago) and after I've been flat ironing once every 2. I'm keeping my fingers crossed...
