Adrienne, I'm so sorry about your experience with your "scissor-happy stylist," but your hair will grow back fast, and it will look really healthy too!!

I absolutely hate when it's "trim time" at the salon. I sit in the chair and my whole body is tensed up the whole time my stylist is trimming. He actually laughs at me!! Whoever said it's worse than getting a needle is sooo right!!

Aww (((Adrienne))) I'm so sorry. But like everyone said, you did it before; you can do it again. And now you're better armed: with the knowledge that you must never trust anyone holding a pair of scissor near your head...not even if *they* got it right at one time.

And yes, I'm with everyone that would like to see your hair as it is today. I hope you will update your avatar with a current pic. After all, you know and we know your hair looks great, regardless of its length.

Girl, I feeling you on the stylist thing.

Why don't they ever start with 1/8 to 1/2 inch and then "ASK" you if you want more taken off. Maybe she just "assumed" that since you wanted more the last time that you wanted the same this time.

She still should of asked first.

Feeling for you, but you have beautiful hair and you just got a "really good" cut sooner then you wanted. I'd still be miffed though..

God, this sounds just like what happen to me yesterday. Retouch and she said "your ends are shot", well same thing it's been 8 or 9 months since the last trim so I figure *sigh* ok, she talked about scissor happy stylists and everyting, saying " I would never do that, cause I had it happen to me". Well she showed me how much she was cuttin even put the clippins in my hand. I was fine wit it, THEN, she was not consistent all over some how some where it went from 1/4 to 1" .

This has to STOP.

Even the best of em are "mistake" prone... none of them are perfect 100% of the time. Ok, maybe sum of u got the trim u wanted THIS TIME, but each time u allow a stylist to trim u, the odds are slowly stacking up for a "mistake" to happen... sad but true...again no one's perfect. THIS ALONE IS ABSOLUTELY WHY I CAN'T TRUST EM

. See, the "hood" in me would come out, & i'd be ready to "trim" her a$$!!! It'll be really embarassing to face a judge due to beating down a stylist for "cutting" my hair

Long time no speak...

Anyway, to the trim, remember when I got a 3 inch TRIM and I was trippin? Well, after I took out my braids about 6 weeks ago, I went back to the same woman (stupid me) and she asked me if I wanted a trim. I thought it would be okay because she knew how upset I was the last time, but again, she cut off 1 1/2 inches.

I was really pissed this time because I had reached my first goal (once again) of the bottom bra strap, but at least this time my hair still touches the bra strap (top). Last time it wasn't touching at all.

I said all that to say this....keep ya head up girl..it will grow back. I have been there and I know how frustrating it is.

But you're still the hair QUEEN

I think I got this figured out.

If you want 1/2" ask for 1/4

If you want and inch ask for half

If you want 1/4 do it yourself and hope for the best.

Or tell the stylist if she trims correctly and does what you ask that you will pay her double. When she's done, say
"I was just playin"

Adrienne I'm so upset this happened to you. This is why it's so dayum hard to find a good stylist because they constantly wanna hack off your hair. I believe they teach them this in hair school because they all think you should get a trim whenever you get a touch-up!

That's why I trim my own hair (twice a year) and when all my problem areas grow out and I reach my goal (above the waist in 2004), I'm going to look through the white hair magazines and find a long, layered style and let the person who actually cut the model's hair, cut mine!

I do not trust stylists anymore to cut my hair based on a photograph, nor do I trust them to trim it because they usually scalp you!

Sorry for your grief. Live and learn, huh?

I am sorry to hear that this happened. I would guess that she probably was jealous of the length and health. Your story is the second one I have read on the board this week

That stylists cannot tell the difference between 1/2 inch, 1 1/2 inch or 3 inches!!

I know that this may sound crazy but do you think it would be safer to go to a caucasian or latin salon for hair trims? Maybe the jealous factor would be reduced by quite a bit and you could have a better chance of getting what you want (not to say that you wouldn't get scalped there either )

I'm sure your hair is still beautiful though and before you know it, it will be back again

I dont know if this true or not since i havent frequented many salons but the ones i have frequented and got trimms were latinas and the one who gave me the dorothy hamil haircut was hispanic. my old stylist who was black never would cut my hair she always trimmed. but i guess people have different experiences. i sure am hoping i can find someone to trim my hair w./o buterchering me. Don't worry girl. As already said here your hair is beautiful but I can feel your pain. You will get your length back sooner than you think. In the meantime, I suggest going to the gym or perhaps beat on a punching bag with her face on it to relieve the stress some. Don't stress too much. It will come back!

I agree with you, Azul. I have also heard white women complain about white stylists who cut off too much hair. If I recall correctly, I believe Jade21 said a while back that she goes to a male barber for trims and has no complaints.

well, i hope she at least gave you an even haircut. it would be aweful if she gave you a jiked up cut on top of cutting too much.

i'm convinced that no stylist can be trusted no matter how good a job they've done in the past. you never know when they will have "a bad day" on YOUR day. i say, if you're hair is not breaking off, then there's no reason to get a trim. if your ends look damaged to you, then dust them yourself.

Perhaps it would be best to go to a stylist with long healthy hair then - and just hope that she would not get "scissor happy". If someone has what you have, then the chances of them creating damage are lower. Is that not the idea of jealousy: you have something that the other person does not? Another approach can be to drop the stylist a settle (sp?) hint that if she doesn't do what you want, then she won't get paid.
