i\'m SO irritated...

i went to get a retouch and trim today. the retouch went fine, but the trim...

it's been 8 months since the last one. so i know it was needed, but why did this ***** cut 1½"??? i wear my hair in protective styles 90% of the time. no way did i have that much split ends. she's the one that trimmed my hair back in nov, and i had to ask her to take more than she wanted. i don't know what the problem was today. she's officially fired from trimming my hair though!!!

needless to say if i did make any progress, it's laying on the salon floor...

your hair stylist for trimming too much. Well, I'm glad the relaxer touch-up went ok though.

Oh no!! You know what though? I've had this happen to me once before. I had my hair 'safely' trimmed by a stylist I trusted and then on the second visit too much was taken off. Its taught me now to NEVER trust any of them and be sooooo specific and vigilant when its trim time.

All I can say to you which you probably already know is that your hair is going to grow back quickly which is the best way to look at it.

But go ahead, fire her

oh my goodness, thats the same reason why Im terrified of getting a trim, I havent had a cut in forever since my last hair cut. I remember my senior in high school I had went to get a "trim" and she cut off so much, that I cried, I didn't even want to go to school the next day. Everybody at school was asking me, what happened to all my hair.

And then the next time it happened to me again and this was because I damaged my hair by bleaching, so I knew that alot of hair would be cut.

I have a major fear of geting my hair cut, I get really distrought.

Adrienne I am so sorry to here about the excessive trim. With these stylists you have to tell them exactly how much to cut and take your hand held mirror with you so they won't be telling you one thing and doing another. I am glad your relaxer turned out well.

Sorry to hear about what happened Adrienne. I know it's a hurting thing when somebody starts messing with your hair. When I get another trim, my mother will be on the other end of the scissors because she only takes off like 1/8-1/4 inch, and she shows it to me after she cuts it.

thanks for the support yall! allandra actually comforted me via messenger. so i'm better now. it's just that i'm back at where i was in january. i was hoping to change my avatar pic, but it's now current again...

i actually had the handheld mirror and was looking in the big mirror when she cut it. her trimming was so slight that it just didn't seem like that much. plus in the back, it was almost impossible to see down there even with the mirror.

anyway, definitely my bad for not specifically saying "please trim 1/2"." i'm sure if i had, she would have done it. i'll just have her do my retouches in the future and go back to true blue for my trims.

Glad you feel better..next time, I'd definitely tell them how much you want trimmed and even "show" them. I find that helps the most. I was shocked that the last time I got my hair trimmed, the stylist asked me to show her so she'd make sure to get it right.
If anything, just think, you probably have NO split ends now!

Even the best of em are "mistake" prone... none of them are perfect 100% of the time. Ok, maybe sum of u got the trim u wanted THIS TIME, but each time u allow a stylist to trim u, the odds are slowly stacking up for a "mistake" to happen... sad but true...again no one's perfect. THIS ALONE IS ABSOLUTELY WHY I CAN'T TRUST EM

I'm so sorry for you Adrienne, but don't worry it will grow back in no time! I had a scissor happy stylist trim between 1-2 inches a few months ago and I was very down because I had lost my new growth, but in a few months I was right back. If you have a dominican salon near you try them for your trims, with few exceptions I've noticed that dominican stylist seem to be much less likely to trim extra length because of how much they love long hair.

Dag you guys have me scared of going to stylist. I always say no to getting a trim because of the last time i went for one and got a dorothy hamil (sp?)haircut. dag i really have no one i trust to come at me with scissors. scissors to me are equilavent to a deadly weapon. i cringe when i see a stylist whip it out.

glad you fired that "*****". I'm going to have to return to my stylist in September for a touch up/trim following a season's worth of braiding. I'm dreading it, cause my hair has already grown two inches since the spring. I don't want her to chop off the fruit of all my labor. Her trims are like cuts. I'm trying to decide whether or not to tell her NOT to trim at all and hear her mouth about how I'm ruining my hair or to just let her cut.

Adrienne, so sorry to hear about the mishap with your stylist. I hate when they take it upon themselves to cut what they think it should be, when like you said you probably had very little split ends because you were wearing protective styles. Anyhow, perhaps you may want to think about doing your own trims. If you go to compasscombs.com they have a comb that cost around $19.95 where you can trim your own hair, 1/4", 1/2", 1" etc. Since your hair is so long, you can perhaps divide it down the middle and bring over your shoulder and snip, snip. You can get someone that you trust to trim your hair as well using this comb. That way you will have peace of mind knowing that your hair is still on your head. I know when i stop wearing braids, i will have to get at least 3-4" of my hair cut off, but i'm willing to make that sacrifice. But afterwards, i'm using the compasscomb to trim my own hair. I strongly believe with one of the posters who said that you may have success with some of the stylists who cut your hair, but eventually somewhere down the road, you will have a mishap where they will cut off more than you want. Just my 2 cents worth.

My stylist insists on "dusting" every time I come in. He doesn't even charge, it makes him so happy. He's dusting faster than I'm growing!

I'm spacing relaxers farter than 8 weeks now and airdrying to avoid his wash & sets. He won't see me for a while.

See....just reading this post upset me! Uuggh! That's why I don't fool with stylist because they have a tendency to do whatever the hell they want. My husband has been doing my trims, he's scared to cut too much so I know I'm in good hands. I usually have to get him to do it twice because he doesn't take enough off.

Adrienne your hair is STILL gorgeous so I want to see those new pics with beautiful healthy ends!
