I'm so glad I dumped my stylist!

So I usually go to this one particular lady to get my micro braids done. I've gone to this lady for like the past 3 years coz she doesn't break off my edges, and she's reasonable ($150). Well, the last time I had gone to her (1 year ago) she told me to come at 7 am. She braids at her house. I woke up really early, got there on time, and she was still in her pajamas. She made me wait for an HOUR while she took a shower, got dressed, and ate breakfast. I figured I'd give her another chance.

Fast forward to this year. We set an appointment for 8 am. I get there, and she's in her pajamas. I'm like, not again. She's a mother now of a 6 month old baby, and she immediately leaves me sitting in the chair while she goes upstairs to DRESS and FEED her baby and take a shower! At 8.30 am, I'm pissed. I'm thinking to myself, if she wasn't gonna be ready until 9 am, she should have just told me to come at 9.

I call my mom, and she suggests that I just be patient with the lady since she just had a baby. I say no way, I'm fed up. She's acting like she's doing me a favor! 8.45 am, I grab my stuff while she saunters downstairs and starts leisurely cooking breakfast. I tell her I'm leaving and she's actually surprised as to why.

I drove and went to a random shop not caring how much it would cost me. I found a group of ladies who charged me the exact same price as my old hair dresser ($150), and 3 of them braided my hair at the same time so they were done in a matter of 5 hours. I was out of the shop by 2 pm with time to spare for shopping and going to the movies.

I'm so GLAD I DUMPED my hairdresser!:grin::grin::grin:

She had the nerve to ask you why! What did you tell her? Sometimes stylist that work from home get wayyyy to comfortable. I'm glad your day still worked out well.

wow... not cooking and eating breakfast while you have a client waiting for you...! Did she at least offer you some food???!

lol but good for you! That's sooo unprofessional of her... why make the appt so early if she knows she's not gonna be ready?

Yep, she was so sure you would just let her do what she pleased.:lachen: I guess it took you 3 years to get mad. I enjoyed your story. Your stylist is out of line for doing that to you. Now she will feel it in her pockets.:giggle: I wish there were more stylists more capable to handle natural hair by me.:ohwell:

i had something similar happen too me...this lady who did my box briads for $40 asked me to come over at 9am...went, and yes she was still in her PJ's and had me wait for her to get ready.

Another time i had to wait outside in my car b/c she wasn't home yet. She was up the street at the grocery store and had me help her bring in all her groceries.

Can't really complain though because she was doing ME and favor with that price. I now knoow how to do my own braids so i wont have to go through that again

Good for you! I'm proud of you! Sadly she knew exactly what she was doing and she thought that she was gonna continuely take advantage of you. That's what i'm talkin' 'bout- NO :censored: for 2010!

Good for you! I was called the runaway patron at one salon I frequented because they would make you wait so long I would just get up and leave. So they got slick and started washing my hair and then leaving me under the dryer for forever because they knew I wouldn't walk out with wet hair.

More people need to dip on these fools.. time is $.

I'm glad you stood up for yourself. I'm thinking about dumping mine because she left the relaxer in my hair too long while she talked and my hair broke off.

Exact same thing happened to me when I use to get braids back in middle school. I guess since I was younger (14) she didnt care. As a 14 yr old though I juggled a lot on my shoulders (sports and musical performances). And one particular day I had something to go to afterwards. Anyway the lady told me to come extra extra early in the morning. She had 2 babies in home. She didnt start until after she fed and burped both. Two hours later she starts on my hair. She was braiding for a consistent 45 minutes before she got up to start cooking (for her husband who wasnt home yet). Another half hour later she comes back to work on my hair again. So anyway she gets up again to go to the restroom (which of course is okay, i mean she's human right). But when she comes back all I can smell is a strong foul smell of urine!!! And mind you when your getting your hair braided at someones house they dont have those fancy salon chairs, you either sit in a chair or on the floor. Because Im pretty short at age 14 and she only had dining room chairs with tall backs, I ended up on the floor with her legs around me :nono: :nono: :nono: I had to smell this ladys funk for 8 hours straight. It didnt help that I was very shy at age 14 so I just dealt with it

^that is appalling. I just remembered when i was younger my mum went to some woman's flat to get her hair done and i had to go one time and she had a dog and i was scared of it, ha ha.

good for you. i used to just have to wait bc my mom would drive me :/

however once i go my hair braided by multiple braiders and different parts of my hair broke bc one braided was heavier handed than the others

How rude, seriously
I had a hairdresser just like that. She was the best hairdresser ever and made my hair go from HAM to GLAM LOL (corny) but unfortunately I had to dump her because I'd get to her house at 9:00am and wait HOURS with other women. I'd leave her house at like 2:00pm and that was only for a rollerset and blow out. No way, no how. I do my own hair now. I can't even say I have a hairdresser because I only go to the salon 2x a year if that. I walk in and they roll their eyes at me LOL

Some stylists totally disrespect their clients by thinking that our time isn't as valuable as theirs. I'm glad you gave her the message that not everyone will tolerate her behaviour!

Kudos to you!

all i can say is wow................wwwow, the nerve of some people. :nono::nono:

Change is good some times with a stylist who gets far to comfortable and doesnt take your time In convenience

Good for you in walking out!!... I've felt the same way on many occasions, but never had a back up plan.
I think when you go to a "home" hairdresser (I've been to many) it's hit or miss, but it's almost guranteed that you'll experience these inconvenient, unprofessional, rude!!! waiting periods. I've been thru:
-having their baby on my lap while they braided ...arrrgh!
-got there for the appointment, braider was out picking up her child from school
-Braider still in PJ's, then goes to take shower, then prepares breakfast for self and child.
-Braider asking me to hook her up w/becoming "a legal" offered to pay me...huh???
-I once woke up xtra early to pump (had a NEWborn at home), ran off to the hairdresser, waited for 2-3 hours only to find out she wasn't going to bother come in.

-having their baby on my lap while they braided ...arrrgh!

Yes, I've had this happen to me before and I absolutely hate it. If you can't afford to pay someone to watch your child, then I suggest you put him or her in a pack 'n play until you are done. I am paying you; so why am I providing child care services for you again??:perplexed

Oh my God! This is horrible. Just awful. It's like the older I get, now I don't mind paying extra money to go to a shop.
