I'm going to NY next month...should I try to get an appointment at CURVE???

What do you ladies think? Are they worth it or not? I've always wanted to go there, but I've been hearing mixed reviews. I really want to get some good highlights. My hair is very healthy right now, and it's the perfect length for my summer staple shake and go. But if those heffas try to cut my hair into some weird shape...

I'm not going to knock Curve because I think the before and after pics on their site are cute. HOWEVER, the big IF is whether you have $400-$600 to blow on a hair cut and treatment. If the money isn't an issue - then you should check it out.

Ain't it? I can get some butter out the fridge, slap it on, and do some hair myself for all that.

I believe the sisters have found their niche and see that they are in demand, thus the ridiculous prices. There is no justification and I think their salon is tantamount to people being voluntarily extorted...

Yeah, I know it's really expensive, that's why I'm kinda on the fence. And I don't want them to be like no, you have to do such and such OUR way, you know? My hair is very healthy, and I just got a trim like 3 weeks ago, so I don't want them to do anything but color my hair, you know? I'm just wondering, are they that much better at coloring curly hair than anyone else? :scratchch

ITA just find someone who's a good colourist to colour your hair, it's not worth the price.

Ayanapooh, I wouldn't go there, they don't impress me mcuh. And I especially wouldn't go there if I was just interested in color. It's doesn't seem worth it. Have you considered Aveda Salons? I've read great things about naturals getting their hair dyed there. Still, good luck in whatever you decide.

If people are willing to fork over that much money, then they aren't being expolited. Curve is just has good business sense.

Ooooh! I'm transitioning and was considering (who'm I kidding -- I was EXCITED about) going to Miss Jessie's once my natural hair has grown out a bit because I'm not ready for the BC yet. But you ladies have me re-thinking that cause $600 is a whole lotta money to be spending when I can do my hair myself! I have never given somebody that kind of money to do my hair!

Anybody know of any alternatives to a silkener? Would a texturizer give the same results?

How is that any different than Starbucks? Coffee was $0.60 a cup until they came along. Or eating in an expesive restaurant where dinner is $30 a person. These ladies a have their own way to became wealthy. They're smart if you ask me. I encourged a friend of mine to do the same.

I'd say if you have no problem spending about $400, go for it as they do an excellent job coloring from what I've seen. As far as getting an appointment for next month, it may be difficult (impossible for the weekend, I know they were booked weekends in June back in early April).

From what I've seen, they don't push anyone to cut their hair unless they NEED it. I've seen them tell quite a few customers the two visits I've been there to hold off on cuts when customers have asked. They also have albums and albums of their work, much more than what's on the site catagorized by services, so you can look through their coloring albums to see actually work that they've done or use them as guides to let them know what results you are looking for.

I guess the issue is money here. If it isn't an issue for you, then I'd give the salon a visit. Again, I only recommend the salon for serious services such as (i.e. cuts, color, silkeners). I can only PERSONALLY speak on the cut as that is the only service I've gotten. Going to the salon simply for styling you can do at home is definitely a waste of $$$.

Thanks for all your comments ladies. When I first started transitioning, I really wanted to go to Curve for styling, b/c I didn't think I could get my hair to be big and curly and fluffy on my own. But now that I know how to style it, I'm only interested in color, and I don't have the same urgency to go as I did before. But I am still curious...I think I'll call them today and see if they have any appointments for color, and ask about their prices. I'll be back to let you know what they say...

Girl that silkener is a texturizer (that's just their term). Mizani relaxer mixed with conditioner to be exact or so I last heard.
