I\'m curious to know...

Other then the ladies on this board, does anyone else know of your interest in hair care? Honestly, I'm absolutely fasinated with taking care of my hair, getting to know what works for it, helping it to grow, making sure I maintain whatever length I get. I want pretty hair!! But, I don't talk about it to anyone. Do you??

Re: I\'m curious to know...

Hmmm. I mostly discuss it only with my mother and my best friend. You know how some women can get, so I tend to not "talk hair" with most people.

However, WHEN ASKED for recommendations or advice, I WILL tell anyone anything I know. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'m curious to know...

My friends would think I am crazy. Most of my female friends, (all of whom have fabulous hair) are regular salon goers like I used to be. You aren't as concerned with your hair when you have a regular stylist that you trust like I used to. My male friends think it is shallow to obsess over hair, skin and/or nails (yet they EXPECT me to have perfect hair, skin and/or nails naturally). Most of my family is natural so just having a relaxer makes me hair crazy to them. I keep it on the board for the most part.

Re: I\'m curious to know...

I don't discuss my hair plans with anyone. It's a real personal interest; I only pray about it.

LOL Honey! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: I\'m curious to know...

noooo...this is a very private obsession. i did tell my best friend that i'm going to let my hair grow down my back...she just shook her head and said, "YEAH RIGHT..." /images/graemlins/mad.gif she thinks we are all nuts. don't worry, though, i'ma teach my girl to quit hatin'!

Re: I\'m curious to know...

The only people that I talk to about hair care are my hair stylist, the people on this board and anyone that asks me questions. Oh yeah, and I talk to Patrice a lot (via telephone) about hair care and skin care.

Re: I\'m curious to know...

girrrl, i talk about it with anyone that will listen...

Re: I\'m curious to know...

Mostly everybody I interact with on a one on one level knows, embarrasingly enough (lol). My friends think I'm crazy, my family knows and thinks it's not too abnormal... most women in my family have or have had really long hair so it's like I'm finally getting around to allowing my hair to grow out. But to know my hair obsession is to know me!! (lol) /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'m curious to know...

My friend knows about my hair "obsession" and she asks me lots of questions about hair care in general. She doesn't have that snooty attitude about hair length on black women. My boyfriend knows, but he just leaves me to it.

I prefer not to talk hair to anyone unless they ask cause their ignorance is just beyond belief.

Re: I\'m curious to know...

My boyfriend and everyone in my family knows and they have actually started coming to me for advice (everyone except dad since he's going bald /images/graemlins/smirk.gif) on how to grow and maintain healthy hair. It's really kind of cool. /images/graemlins/cool.gif Mom even suggested that I have my own little "shop" in the basement so I could do my sisters hair too. My youngest sister still thinks it's a little obsessive and that have an addiction to hair care products but she has even changed some of her products based on what I buy. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'m curious to know...

My Cousin and one friend, but mostly I am alone in my obsession. I got a lot of negativity when I talk about hair with other people.

Re: I\'m curious to know...

I'm into healthy hair but I don't talk to anyone about it. I was always buying the Black Hair Magazines and I'd talk to my boyfriend alot but he thinks if I just leave my hair alone and stop putting different things on it, it will grow. Well, I don't buy the mags as much and I don't talk to him about my hair anymore. This board is my new friend now. Everyone here loves and wants healthy hair like myself. Hey, if this means my hair will be down my back well that's just a bonus. My hair has never been past my shoulders and that was with a "Curl". LOL /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'m curious to know...

I don't talk to any one about my secret hair obsession. If they come to my house though, they do notice that I have alot of hair products. I can tell that my friends could not understand why I stopped relaxing my hair. It's obvious they don't approve, but I do my own thing. Now, I'm texturized, but I still have the kinky look. Oh well, I wear my hair up mostly. When I finally wear it down around them, I think they are going to think it is fake.

Re: I\'m curious to know...

I only talk hair with you guys. I made the mistake of telling one of my friends and she was like, "Black People don't have long hair." Most of my family and friends know about my "hair obession." /images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: I\'m curious to know...

Nope, I keep my hair obsession to myself and share only with this board. I imagine that people would think that it's vain and a waste of time. My boyfriend thinks I'm obsessed and going overboard with the hair thing - the vitamins, the hard bonnet dryer, etc). I did mention this board to my sister once and I told her that I get good hair tips here. But this is the only place that I talk hair! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: I\'m curious to know...

My family comes to me for advice on my hair. I have had length at or below bra strap for most of my life and my hair has always grown quickly. I have a sister who has decided to grow her relaxer out based upon my experiences and she has gone on to try Elucense and Aubrey products based upon my recommendations /images/graemlins/grin.gif

My husband teases me at times about all of the hair, health and beauty stuff I have in the bathroom but I know that he appreciates the results because he is constantly complimenting me on my appearance /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: I\'m curious to know...

My SO's the only person outside the hairboards who knows of my secret obsession. Sometimes it irritates him but he's in training to be more accepting. He can even speak some hair lingo now.

Re: I\'m curious to know...

My mom knows that I'm growing my hair out but I haven't shared with anyone my goal. She's pretty understanding and supportive. She's had waist lenght hair all her life.
I'm soooo glad that I found this board! I addicted to reading everyones post on here /images/graemlins/grin.gif With all the great info I've aquired on this board and the old one ...I know I'll reach my goal.

That's a great post Tea! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: I\'m curious to know...

The only person that knows is my mother. Some women seem to give you that "is that all you know is your hair" look. Some may be obssesed with their clothes, I'm just one that likes beautiful, healthy hair.

BEAUTIFUL HAIR

I was wondering do you relax your hair or press? Im in the middle of transitioning.Im so tempted to relax my hair again. If you do relax your hair what type of relaxer do you use?

Re: BEAUTIFUL HAIR

Nope /images/graemlins/frown.gif I never discuss my obsession with friends, they think long hair is some kind of miracle only a few lucky people get. I get my FIX on this board /images/graemlins/smirk.gif although, I have been known to sneak in good advice during normal conversation... they never know what hit em /images/graemlins/tongue.gif I know they are listening when their hair starts to look better and then I load em up with compliments and sneak in some moore....my secret remains safe.

Re: BEAUTIFUL HAIR

I discuss it all the time with my mom and my husband. They are both very supportive. Yesterday a co-worker and I were discussing wearing satin bonnets to bed at night and she said she didn't understand why women who wear their hair pulled back or in ponytails on a daily basis where a bonnet to bed. I tried to explain to her that it was to keep the hair moisturized and from getting dried out and she just didn't want to hear it. It didn't make sense to her. We never agree on hair maintenance and always usually end up arguing about it so I think from now on I will stick to discussing issues on the hair board and with my mom and hubby. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: I\'m curious to know...

i only discuss my hair obsession with my mother. i think i am obsessed because every since i was little i wanted long hair. i never felt that could be achieved until i have read this board. my stylist even told me most black women can't have long hair. i want to prove her wrong. i am currently 3 inches past shoulder.plus, i think people would think i was crazy all the products i buya nd pills i take. i tell people i just take vitamins to be healthy. that is kinnda the truth

Re: I\'m curious to know...

I use tell when I wasasked, but by the time I got finished they were looking at me like I was

so I don't anymore. I just say I take a good multivitamin. People don't seem to understand why I wash my hair every 4 days and do co washes so I just leave it alone.

Re: I\'m curious to know...

A group of my chorale students found me on this site one day so they know i am a fanatic.

My boyfriend also knows about it. He even wants me to help him grow out his hair when he gets out the military (he can't have long hair while he's in it). He wants a big ol bush so he can look like Simba from "The Lion King." He wants my vitamin regimen and is even willing to sleep with a doo-rag to prevent breakage!

Hm... Imma make him join this forum when he gets out the military.

Re: I\'m curious to know...

The only person I occassionally share with is my niece. When she was a child she has waistlength hair. She went to spend the summer with her stepmom and they called my sister and asked them could she have her hair trimmed. When she stepped off the plane she only had 2 inches of hair. I wanted to smack them myself. Now that she older its past shoulder length but it never seems to grow past that.

My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy for washing my hair so much and just found out that I'm a member of this hair board(being nosy). He asked me why? I told him because I wanted to see just how long and healthy my hair could grow. He said your hair length is fine until I took this bun out, I plan on wearing for the next year. His comment was WHOA!
So I guess that proves it works.
