If you don't use lotta body or other ethnic "SETTING LOTIONS" what do you use?

Hi Ladies,

This is my first post. I've been a lurker and occasional reader but I've decided to get serious about hair care and free myself to wear my own healthy hair. I've added protein treatments and and natural oils and my previously damged, thin hair which I cut off is now growing back healthy and strong! I am happy with the condition but want to grow it long. I've switched out from ethnic hairproducts such as "hair oils" or hair grease and pretty much use extra virgin coconut or avocado oil exclusively. I have come to undeerstand that a lot of ethnic products have mineral oils and petrolatum and bad ingredients! I still use ethnic setting lotions as I am unsure if "styling mousse" or serums for caucasion hair can do for black relaxed hair what our "setting lotions" do? I'm clueless. Does anyone have any personal experiences or information to help answer this question? TIA ladies.

I use Dominican (and Spanish) products like Salerm 21 B5 (or lacio lacio) as a leave in conditioner before styling.

Gives me sleek & smooth roller sets.

I use wrap and roll from the Jane carter line for roller sets. I like it because there is no crunch, but I am not looking for a lot of hold.

I picked this one up too (to try). I hope it doesn't smell like Nourish & Shine, because I don't like the way that smells at all.:ohwell:

The natural line's by design essentials and keracare have come out with setting foams/lotions. I also like Shea Moisture curl and style milk. It is like a leave in with a light hold. You can also mix Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing smoothie with eco styler gel and that gives a soft hold. Shea moisture souffle is also a pretty good setting product.

Ok. Thank you Ladies. I have been using Keracare Foaming Lotion. I have been looking at the Frederic Fekkai Shea line for Shampoo and conditioner and the line also has a foaming Styling Mousse and I was unsure if that was the equivalent of a "setting lotion" so I thought i'd find out before I wasted money on it.
