If you dont think which hair tools matter, well come in and listen to this!!

Okay,
In the history of this forum I know I'm not the only one that's stated this, but yes, it really DOES matter which hair tools you use! So for all of us that need little reminders about why we pay a grip for the right hair stuff, here ya go...

I went to Connecticut this weekend to Foxwoods with my momma and 'nem.. lol.. I live in VA and so it was like 75 degrees here and 50 there.. Cold as I dont know what. Which meant I could not wear my hair wet. I got sick the minute I got there because my hair was still wet and had no speaking voice by the evening. Yes, it was that serious. So I had my little hair products with me, but the little voice that told me to bring my Chi blow dryer and flat iron was really trying to help my tail but I didn't listen... And I paid for it!

My cousin was braggin' about this little "ceramic' flat iron she got from the BSS and her hair looked aight, but she's got a relaxer and a fresh one, so maybe she had some help there. And I used her BSS blow dryer and her BSS flat iron, and it should be more like BS blow dryer adn flat iron because that's all it was, a bunch of BS! My hair looked like a pile of ish! I was sooo embarassed to walk around the casino with my hair looking the way it did. Not only was it burnt, dry, lifeless and dull, it was oily and greasy looking but still dry, nevertheless. My ends were fried, puffy and frizzy and I just put it all in a bun... I was hellamad. Not only did I have some hulahay going on in the middle, but I had this terrible scalp soreness from it. My color, which is actually very pretty, didn't show up at all, was dull and lifeless. My hair had no swang to it, and looked nothing like the Chi blowdried/flat ironed hair in my Pikistrip...

When I saw this, I thought I must have done something wrong. I've been using MT for over a month now and thought my hair has become seriously jacked. I was about to cut all of it off and cry myself to sleep... But something told me to wait until I got home.. So I did..

Yesterday, I woke up and clarified to start all over... I did my regular routine and DC'd overnight. This morning I got up, rinsed, did a moisture treatment and conditioned, and then rinsed. Applied my leaveins and thermal protectants (chi silk infusion, lacio leave-in, chi straight guard, chi thermal polishing spray) and use my Chi ceramic blow dry adn flat iron..

OMG!! My hair was back! I couldn't believe it... It was silky, soft and shined like glass! My hair looks like a fresh relaxer and when I was in the car I had to rebun it because it was so straight, my hair just fell into my hands... It was quite sexy, actually! LOL I thought if the right guy saw that, I'd surely get a marriage proposal tonight! I had a hairgasm!! Praise God, like seriously! I thought I was a gonner... My mom saw my hair today and was like wow, it's so pretty... What in teh world happened this weekend.. I was like ummm.. using BS on my hair made it look like a pile of BS.. Never again!

The moral of my story: evident... But as I constantly tell people, yes, I it cost me a little grip to buy these hair appliances but my hair looks professional and is healthy, and it's worth every penny I've spent on them. NOthing from the BSS store will ever touch this head again!!! NEVER! My esteem got shot down to death, and I had my high school hair all over again! I dont ever want hair like that again, and this just really damaged my self image a minute there. I've thought for the last few months wow, I've got really great hair and to go back to that mess was like a slap in the face... Thank God for redemption! My hair was redeemed by my CHI! Thank you Jesus! It was not worth the hassle and emotional roller coaster that sent me through... Ladies your appliances do matter and I've learned this. Next time, I'm going to be rather thankful that I have the money to buy something necessary rather than gripe about it, because in turn, it has blessed me and given more than what I've spent!!

Chi ceramic dryer: $100 bucks
Chi ceramic flat iron: $100 bucks
Chi hair products: $50
Self-esteem, healthy hair, moisture, beautiful color, swing, drools, stares and lovin' myself: Priceless!

Be blessed you all...

Much love,
Trinia

That's not always true. I have a cheap flat iron I bought at the BSS for $20. I've had it for 2 or 3 yrs and it has real ceramic plates, not coated ones like other flat irons. It straightens my hair really well. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't have temperature control. None the less it does what it's supposed to do and does it well. :yep:

Hmmm... interesting... Well, I'm glad it's not always true... I think for some of us though, we can't get away with certain things with our hair, and I just can't... I think the key to yours is that it has real plates, and that's probably what matters. And since you say so, how can you tell if the plates are real versus plated? I'm sure others can learn from this question as well... Thanks :)

OP, I agree. My hair has never looked better since I went to a hair stylist who uses Aveda products and a Chi flat iron. :yep: NO more Marcels for me. :nono:

Do you think it was the chi products or iron that got the job done for you?

i'm curious, because i use salon products, but my $14 andis ceramic flat iron from wal mart gets my roots as straight as i'd like them to be. does the iron really make the difference?

I think the iron makes a huge difference, IMO. Other flat irons have gotten my hair straight, but it didn't stay, and they also cooked my hair and made it very dry. I can tell a huge difference since I've been using my CHI and how it's been good for my hair, although I dont use heat but probably once a month. I used to have a Gold N' HOt, a Hot Tools, a Revlon, and I could name a few others. NONE, let me repeat again, NONE have made my hair easily straighten, shine and keep it's moisture the way my CHI has. I think that there are other comparable professional irons other than CHI. My hair stylist that I used to go to used one that started with an "R", although I can't remember the name. Her's cost like $200, adn so that's why I went with CHI because I got mine for $100. I only think you'll know the difference when you use one and then you'll realize what hte others have been doing to your hair, or NOT doing for your hair! HTH

hmm.. thanks for breaking that down! i've been thinking of investing in a high-end iron for the longest.

honestly I think it's a combination of good products and tools. You never really see cheap tools in any reputable salon and I think there is a good reason for that..

well i went to the store today to purchase a CHI blow dryer but it didnt have a comb attatchment(i need it). and the sales rep talked me out of it. she said you need a good flat iron but a blow dryer is a blowdryer is a blow dryer.

The plates on my flat iron are not made from metal. I will take a picture of it and show you when I can.

Butterfly,
Who does your color, it is on point! I"m so lovin it!

I go to an Aveda salon and she uses Aveda bleach and toner. It's supposedly gentler than other brands. I really have not suffered from breakage, although I attribute it to cowashing, stretching my relaxers for 3 months, and not using direct heat between touch ups.

Me too. It's crazy cuz I don't even flat iron. :ohwell: But I figure after 3 - 4 uses it will pay for itself, considering what it would cost to get a wash and blow dry. Which I don't do either. :look:

It's funny the things we'll say to justify buying something! :lachen:

Thanks for the story. I'm thinking about getting a new flat iron so this was a big help as far as quality is concerned.

You don't need a high-end iron from what I can see. What you've got seems to be working JUST fine for straightening.

I do agree that tools matter, but I don't think you have to spend an arm and a leg on them. I have a GHD (Sally's $35) and a CHI iron (Folica $100) and they BOTH get the job done.

A ceramic ironor a tourmaline iron/blow dryer would be safest.

Mine came wiu a comb and diffuser. About a blow dryer being a blow dryer, I'd have to rely on it experiences and say this can't be true but maybe is for some. Obviously there wouldn't be ladies who would choose to buy a Pibbs when you can buy a regular sit under for 30 bucks and not 200. But I d agree that you shouldn't have to spend an arm and a peg for a good product, I just have used many over the years and none have kept my hair the way my chi has.

Mine came with a comb attachment
