Maybe the wheel doesn't need to be re-created.
We can just post an ongoing thread titled:
International Shopping Thread in the product exchange forum, find a way to set up a PayPal vendor, and when someone needs something, another person stateside can offer to shop. It will be entirely voluntary. There can maybe be
3-6 people with access to PayPal to disburse funds to the shopper so that one person is not responsible with all the activity. Also, we would not want someone who is challenged with stealing to just be in charge of the money with absolutely no accountability.
- When someone wants to order, they make their request known on the thread.
- When someone wants to shop, they let that person know that they will shop for them - on the thread.
- One of the multiple people with access to the PayPal site will monitor when the buyer has paid the Paypal account titled "International Shopping Thread" and will then disburse the funds to the shopper. The buyer must include fees, shipping, and a lil' something to the shopper for their trouble so that the shopper is not "put out" for doing a favor. As time goes along, we can get an accurate idea of the cost of various weights and shipping times, etc and post those clearly on the thread as well. It might not be a perfect science to start and I can imagine why this stopped; it's challenging working through all of this. I think, however, over time, it would be perfected to a science and we would not have to get mad at one another and reduce ourselves to namecalling or any other hurtfulness which can happen when dealing with money and long distances. We could be a model to others who want to learn to work together.
- Finally, once, the shopper is finished shopping and has mailed items off within 3 days of having received the monies from buyer - which should actually be within around 5 days AFTER they said they would shop - they have to post to the board (in a very public manner) to say that the buyer's item has been shipped. The shopper should also PM the buyer with the exact same info.
- Everyone involved should subscribe to the thread to keep up with all info on a timely basis and for accountability. This way, we can watch shoppers and buyers to get an idea of who is reliable, kindm trustworthy etc over time.
Have I missed anything? Have I repeated everything else that has been said? (I just dont have time to go through the entire thread at the moment, Sorry!!!
)
I am willing to help in any way possible. We should really try hard to make this a resource in every way to international members and maybe even to stateside members.
The only thing: it might not actually be cheaper the longer I think about this. It might be a tiny bit more costly but might be worth it simply for peace of mind for people overseas who want access to products. (I am thinking of shipping and the fee to the shopper.)
Bumping now for feedback. If we all work together, this could be up and running in about
three weeks maximum from today. Please give honest feedback so we can know what everyone feels at this point and whether or not to let this thread die...
Subscribing....
Blessing to us all!
