I want to say THANK YOU for unintentionally reminding me of what the heck I've been missing in my hair regimen:

LESSON LEARNED: If it aint broken THEN WHY THE HECK ARE YOU TRYIN' TO FIX IT? I unconsciously stopped doing the things that helped my hair flourish the most.

4 SIMPLE THINGS:

  • My hair LOVES water. I never was the type to use creamy based products and really like the results. When I was natural, I would HAVE to wet my hair pretty much daily to get it to "reform" lol - :lachen: And my hair loved it. I guess I didn't put 2 and 2 together. Every time my hair touches water it does the dougie, stanky leg, 2 step, and electric slide. It's so happy! My hair just lovesssss water like it's owner! lol

  • CASTOR OIL: Using Castor oil on my hair while damp or dry, it instantly soften my 4a/4b coarse, thick, dense hair! I don't know why the heck I didn't repurchase any of this miracle oil sooner, and when I did, it just SAT IN MY CABINET! wth was I thinking?

  • S-CURL: I used it before when I had tried to do the texturized thing and it was so moisturizing to my hair's soul! lol. I think I stopped because I didn't know how to treat both textures - one part was too soft (the texturized portion that got over processed, the other was loving it). I didn't know how to balance needing protein and moisture w/o overdoing it for either texture.

  • SEAL IN SECTIONS: I didn't really have to worry about this at first because my hair was all pretty much the same length. BUT, due to several setbacks I had to cut off inches of hair around the crown and bang area of my hair. NOW that these areas are shorter, I have to SEAL those ends too and not just focus on the longer strands. I have to seal the deal to keep my ends healthy.

How did I RE-LEARN the "old tricks?"

Last night I did a braid out using:

*H-Two spray Leave in - (don't think I needed it, won't use it tonight to see. It's likely that anything water based is suffice)
*Water (mixed w/Castor oil) - just shook it up each time, IDK why I used more water lol, I guess I'm afraid of that cone in the H-Two and didn't want to keep spraying my hair with it
*S-Curl - (INSTANT SOFTNESS)
*Aphogee pro-vitamin - (because of the relaxer and color, I use this or other protein based products more often)
Castor oil - I sealed the ends of the longest strands with Castor, and they were VERY soft. (I unintentionally missed the shorter strands)

THIS MORNING:

I took my braids down. Since my hair is uneven, the strands that are shorter did NOT get the sealed deal with the good ol' Castor. So when I took down my braids they were formed WELL, but the ends of the shorter strands (that did not get the Castor affect) were DRY. I then had a light bulb moment ....

I put about a quarter size of Castor in my hand (will use less next time, I ended of looking like I dipped my hand in a bowl of grease), rubbed it together and did the SCRUNCHING affect focusing on ends, section by section. This created a very soft well formed braid out.

Things I forgot that could possibly
give you that light bulb moment too:

  1. Remember if it aint broke, then don't fix it.
  2. For some of us, keeping it simple is the best thing for our hair.
  3. Hair loves water (internal and external).
  4. Seal in sections if your hair is not all one length! VERY IMPORTANT for those of us with different lengths. (If you've noticed certain areas of your hair are dryer than others, maybe this could be the culprit.)
  5. Moisture and seal as needed, if you're not sure re-moisturize and seal every morning and night! (Being proactive is better than having to FIX a problem) If your ends are getting too soft, then do it accordingly!

SO, THANK YOU MISS AdoraAdora24!!:grin::drunk::yep:
I HOPE TO BE WL LIKE YOU SOONER THAN LATER!

Here are the pictures (despite the rain and horrible weather my hair held up)

So true!
I was jumping on so many bandwagons for a year that I didn't realize I was just wasting time and money

I think I am going to have to seal in sections because my hair is really thick and coily. I have been using S curl and I agree. I love me some S curl. It's a staple. I stray but I know I can always come back to my Scurl, sealed with JBCO, forget about it!!!

ME TOO. One that never works for me is coconut oil. I wanted it to be the bomb for me, but it has not been the holy grail for me. Not a softener like it is for some. It gives nice shine though.:yep:

Sell them on the hair board to people like me who are still newbies in PJ phase!! Not ready to KISS yet! Having too much fun!!!:drunk:

i would say use them up if your hair likes them, but if your hair dont like them, then dont use them. there are so many products that i have and dont use from so long ago. my hair dont like them:nono:

KrystalClear, your hair came out beautiful. Great job!

Adora, what do you attribute your crazy hair growth to?

I just found a bottle of S-curl that my mom bought in the bathroom cabinets just the other day....Im going to give it a try today!

wouldnt using scurl in the winter dry hair out?

I think it has the potential depending on where you live. I live in TX and it's usually pretty humid around here. Especially yesterday with the rain. But I know that is can due to the whole "drawing moisture from the air" concept. And if it doesn't have anywhere to draw it from then it goes to your hair next. I know that tons of ladies still use it during the winter.

wow adora... that sure is a simple reggie... lol and i thought mine was simple lol guess not!!! good job chica
