shame on me for trying to save $30

i havent had a perm since the 2nd week of august
i bought the ORS Relaxer kit,
based my scalp
i planned on doing half of my head at a time
started applying with a brush

obviously i did'nt put enough
because after 15min my hair was the same.
i smoothed and smoothed and added more relaxer
wasnt going any where.

first of all my hands were shaking the whole time. i've gained SO MUCH growth since my sig, i wouldn't be able to live with myself if i burned all my hair off.

there was too much stuff going on in my home. the dog pooped in the house, my mom was yelling at me to pick it up, CHEMICALS ARE BURNING MY SCALP. IT was a bad day :nono:

so now i'm at square 2, the back of the right side of my head is texlaxed ( i guess) some parts of it are straight from the scalp then get curly 4 cm down (improper smoothing) the front edges on the right are smooth.

i cant help but laugh at the situation.:drunk: anyway my question is what do i tell the salon so that i still have hair when THEY relax it?

the right back was long too, a little passed cbl (grr)

Lol i don't think anyones first self relaxing experience was great. There was a thread and poll on it some time back. I've only self relaxed 3 times, the results got better each time but the 3rd time i decided to transition because i can't trust anyone with chemicals in my hair, not even my own mother. But practice makes perfect so keep on trying.

At least you didn't over process that would be a major problem....I would tell the stylist about my previous self relaxing mishap and show them what needs to be relaxed again. FYI: Since you previouly relaxd that section of your hair I would apply a petroleum base not to over process my hair, also wait until your next relaxer to correct the underprocessed hair. You do not want chemical overlap or excess chemical on your hair. Give your hair some recovery time using proteins and moisturizing conditioners:)

thank you, how long should i wait?
because honestly my hair still looks and feels a couple of months post.

except the right side feels like its 3 as opposed to 5 on the left

Personally I would wait my normal 12-16 weeks in between relaxers. But it depends on how often you relax. If you relax every 8 weeks then do it then. In the mean while apply moisturizuring conditioner to the under process sections for easy detangling:)

natural pride i relax about 3 times a year. i cant wait another 4 months my hair is gonna be ridiculous lol.
i'm gonna shoot for the end of jan

Have you tried flat ironing your roots? Heat can be a good thing especially when you're underprocessed. Don't be scared lol

ORS no lye pretty much texlaxed me even when I left it longer than the instructions. I would switch to a different brand if you want to go straighter

i flat iron very infrequently because my hair doesn't feel great afterwards.
i have a 1 inch Sedu and i use chi serum or tressemme (whatever their heat protectant name is) as a heat protectant.

but its left dull and ever so slightly crunchy. and when i comb though it i have those sticky hairs.

(before i flat iron i prepoo with hair mayo, wash with aphogee, dc with neutrogena triple silk and creme of nature conditioner, dc with roux porosity. spray all the aphogee stuff in, add in the chi and lacio lacio while wet and air dry)

my protective styles deal mostly with half wigs but i was tryna be all cute for the company Christmas party on Monday.

yes! im glad it's not just me.
i was terrified of leaving it in longer. which one do you use?

My first time self relaxing was bad too. I think most first timers are so scared of getting damage that they dont use enough relaxer and it comes out underprocessed. Like someone else said practice makes perfect. I would wait 6 weeks to do a corrective relaxer.

I also self relaxed this weekend and lets just say that it was not great. I think that the back may be slightly over processed. I washed out the relaxer, put in some aphogee 2 min (left it on there for a while) and neutralized (let that sit on there for a while also). Then I washed, conditioned, added leave in conditioner, a little olive oil and i wet wrapped it. My hair is dry now but I have not un wrapped it yet. For my next wash day i plan on using the aphogee two step.Is there anything else that I need to do, something that i did not do or something that i should do?

My first self-relaxer didn't turn out well either. I underprocessed my hair but I haven't thrown in the towel yet. I've been applying PM Straight Works to my roots which has worked wonders when roller settings. But if you're going to a salon for the next relaxer you should definitely wait at least 6 weeks and ask them for a corrective relaxer. This way they'll know to move the relaxer down the shaft a little while smoothing to straighten the underprocessed portions of your hair. HTH

I've been self relaxing for I guess about a year now...I definitely think getting others involved makes a world of difference. I see other people do it with ease, but I'm far to uncoordinated to relax by myself. I enlist the help of my mother (even though she has very little experience perming) and just explain my goals to her and made her look at the pictures in LondonDiva's fotki (where she explains how to relax in sections). Anyway, shes getting better and better, and things are going well.

Also I did a next day corrective on one section once, and everything was fine....just make sure to use protein conditioner (i used aphogee 2 min) after rinsing out, and dc frequently in the days after. HTH
