I think I like mineral oil! OH NO!

So I'm a newbie here, and I've been trying very hard to check and stay away from products with mineral oil, because I do believe it may be the cause of growth problems. So today I bought some Queen Helene Cholesterol, just to use as a pre-poo and I added Vatika oil and Olive oil. After I added to my hair, I looked at the back and saw MINERAL OIL! Eeeks. Thought I had read the label carefully. Anyway, I left it on my hair for about 3 hrs ( i was busy doing house stuff) and then washed.

OM FREAKING GOSH!!! :grouphug::grouphug: My hair was soooooooo soft after I washed!!!!

So soft in fact, that I felt perhaps all of it wasn't out, and I ran out of my shower to look for my mom's sulfate shampoo ( I use a non-sulfate poo) and washed again. Still, super soft hair!! My hair has never been so soft, EVER! I honestly didn't even think I needed conditioner, and I never feel that way! I was really only washing my hair to try out my new Joico Recovery Moisture Balm (which I have in now, and was sooo excited to try my new condish), but my hair was so soft I didn't really need to use it.

So what's the deal. I know it's "bad", but good golly, it made my hair soooo happy. Sigh...I guess since I'm washing it out anyway, it can't be that bad right??? My aphogee 2 min also has Mineral oil, and both myself and countless others love that. Does my hair just like mineral oil??? :ohwell:

Cool. Glad you found something that works. A lot of commercial (and popular) products contain mineral oil. Keracare and Nexxus come to mind.

I never saw the problem with mineral oil, personally. They say its clogs pores and doesn't absorb moisture or whatever, but it has never done this to me and I don't change my mind about buying a product just because it has mineral oil in it

Eureka! You're right...I forgot all about that. I used to loooove Humecto back in the day :lick:, so maybe it's a sign. I think it was just because it was Queen Helene that I was dissing it even more. My mind says salon products are better, but it appears that my hair is just thrifty! lol

I'm glad too..but I feel so guilty!! Guess I just have to get over it. Just don't want this to hinder any growth because a sista's got goals!

People hate on cones too but I have never had a problem my hair loves them, looks better when I use them too.

And I will say that I use to use the old formula of Sunsilk frizz leave in that came in the green bottle. It contained mineral oil and I have yet to find a leave in cream that defined my hair better. I do find that most products that contain mineral oil are a no-no(pink oil), but some products that contain it do work, and if it works for you, then do you!

Maybe it has to do with the amount of mineral oil in it. I'm guessing that products with a lot of mineral oil would probably not be so good, where as products with a relatively low concentration of mineral oil wouldn't cause too much damage.

if it works in your hair don't worry about the ingredients. My hair LOVES Blue Magic Coconut Oil and DAX which are nothing more than mineral oil/petroletum

If it works for you, go for it. I only use stuff that works for me, unfortunately most BSS products don't work for me. Took years and gobs of hair falling out to figure it out but thank God I found this place...eh?

mineral oil really doesnt bother me. i try not to use it on the scalp but one of my fave moisturizers hve mineral oil in it and i love it.

If it works, go for what you know! Not everything applies to everyone.

When I was texlaxed, month and cones didn't bother me at all. Actually dang near every product I purchased contained it and my hair thrived. I mean serious growth. That was when I was on a strictly Dominican product regimen and I never had any problems. While I don't use them as much as I used to, I don't necessarily shy away from a product containing it, unless its like the 1st or 2nd ingredient.
