I think I have fine hair but

I guess I'm a bit of an anomaly. I always knew my hair was fine, whether relaxed or natural, because of how thin my strands were in comparison to most of my relatives. Most of my hairs aren't as thick as the splits of my mother's hair. It's like the difference between angel hair pasta and udon noodles. Seriously. So I always wanted to take extra care of it for fear of breaking it.
I think it's paid off because despite the fineness of my strands, they're more elastic than anyone's hair I've encountered. So moisture/protein balance is a godsend for fine haired ladies. :-)

This is EXACTLY the way my DD's hair is, fine individual strands, but MILLIONS of them. Tangly too.

My hair too i thought i was a loner in this camp not that i think my hair is thick its just seems like a lot of strands bundled together.

Yes I have fine hair, but a lot of it too! It took a friend of mine from LHCF some years ago to tell me. For years stylists had me thinking that my hair was coarse! They would always use SUPER strength relaxer on my hair and sometimes leave it on for 30 minutes or so! Had me thinking my hair was hard to straighten. One day, I finally went to someone who used regular, but a different brand. I think it was Affirm. It worked great and my hair was straight in about 15-20 minutes. Then... when I started doing my own touch-ups here and there I used Motions regular. Still no problem! So, I realized it wasn't the Affirm it's just that people had been using the wrong products on my hair. Took me about 15 years before I realized this. So glad I know better now. Now I know how to retain some hair! LOL!

this!!

i have been using super strength for years and leaving it on the longest its says on the box :-/ ooooops!

im gonna try mild i guess. im still documenting.
until december.

The way some describe it, if you have fine hair you'll KNOW it... I agree. Your hair is probably medium. What makes you think it is fine?

because of how fine each strand is on its own. I also got a major setback from using my denman brush to detangle my wet hair over a 2 year period.

Wish I could texlax! I really do, but life has forced me to stay natural :( due to scalp eczema (it's like liquid acid to put perm on) and being fine AND low density is just sad to see even when semi-straight. It's just all whispy and flies all over my head at the tiniest breeze so trying to style it is a mess.org :ohwell:

At the rate I have to dust and trim to keep up with fine-hair splits I might not see APL in 2014. *sigh*

Sorry just lamenting...

virtuenow You were right.

So yesterday I took a strand of my sister-in-law's hair and put it next to a strand of my hair and... my hair strand was much bigger than hers! Talk about shocking! So I was wrong. My hair isn't fine.

The analysis thread confirmed my thoughts about strand size. You can see several ladies that originally thought they had fine strands and discover they have medium strands. Here's some of the posts:
