Oh man...so now you have to stop running to look cute with the hair? Oh no!!!!

I workout 5 days a week (Monday thru Friday). On those days I just do a CO Wash or rinse + leave in and wet bun. I run so the CO wash is necessary especially in the summer. The wet bun is not the greatest look but I have no one to impress during the week anyway. It's work -> gym -> home.

On the weekends (when it really matters for me anyway) I wear my hair out.
If I do happen to go out mid week I will skip the cardio/run for the day and just double up on weights/yoga/stretching/abs. I don't sweat much doing those.

I've taken to wearing a wig with cornrows underneath as a way of keeping my hair up and outta the way. It's great! I would've never guessed!

I was away when this thread came up, I love it, absolutely, haircare did stop me from working up a sweat in the past, I would go to the gym and do enough not to sweat but maintain, now I jog 3 miles per day and weight train, I sweat like a hog. my doobies used to be gone by the end of one workout, now I use nexxus comb thru it helps to hold my hair through workouts, I do braidouts as well because they last 5 days and enen the sweat makes my hair curly(I know that is yuk) but I try to wash my hair 2 times per week, when I can 3 times lots of conditioner is needed when u work out alot.

What worked for me when I was exercising regularly was wrapping my hair while I work out and once my head dries take the scarf off and my hair goes back to normal. Also washing twice a week. CO wash one day and full wash the other.

I wash twice a week-one co-wash and one regular wash. I work out 4-5 timesa week so its necessary. My hair is still short so unfortunately I cant put it into a proper bun yet but I'll get thee someday :) :)

This is a GREAT thread! I workout anywhere from 4-6 days a week, and boy can I really work up a sweat. Sometimes washing my hair is a bit much for me after every workout so I don't wash everytime. I do wear my hair in a ponytail with a cotton bandana during workouts though, to soak up as much sweat as possible. This has actually been working great. My hair has gotten so long that washing everyday is really starting to be too much manipulation for me. But believe me, I'm not letting NOTHING interfere with my workouts!

Vixen, you look great mami
Ive recently gone back to working out 3x per week. I usually dont sweat that much but my scalp does get kinda irritated.

I ll prob start washing every 3 to 4 days, slather my keracare oil moisturizer on my wet hair, air dry and flat twist it to dry over night. The next morning, ill put it up in a french twist or curly bun.

I don't sweat that much either...and I'm glad. I've just gotten back on my fitness routine and I workout before I go to work in the morning. I just turn the A/C up and do intervals on my treadmill for 60 minutes. My edges get a little damp, but I treat them with moisture block prior to my workout to keep my hair from puffing up. So far it's working and I shampoo/condition on the weekends. And VWVixen is my inspiration to keep working out...that body of yours girl...

Go LALA my hair idol! What the heck is moisture block?

I sweat when I work out - intervals....weights.......well not as bad with weights but I do sweat. LOL!

I am going to try the bike and a spin class next. I am finally going to break down and try an elliptical.

And thanks to everyone who informed me about the fat burning zone...I don't see much of a difference yet going slower but I will give it a month.

Haha I wou ld like to know what moiture block is to girl?! Well here's a question.....what shampoo/conditioner do you ladies after each workout? I want to find a really good pair ( dont have to be the same brand) that will keep my hair from shedding/breaking and keep it well moisturized...

I use whatever is in the shower which includes:

Elucence MB
Curl Junky Healthy Conditioner for T&L
KeraCare Humecto

It just depends on how the wind blows and how I feel that day.

Does anyone workout in the afternoon/evening???

I just started jogging 2 miles each afternoon and I just had my mind set on a routine with twistouts. Now I'm afraid its all going to change. I sweat after working out and my hair shrinks up too! Bugs also get in my hair and I'm going to have to wash it daily. Conditioner washing makes my hair too mushy and sometimes weak. What should I do?

My hair is also short 6-7 inches and very tighly coiled. How should I style my hair at night after washing it?

Last night I did flat twists after washing but when I took them down this morning, my hair was still wet in some places and started shrinking so I had to put my hair in a puff. I don't wanna wear a puff daily because I have suffer breakage around my edges from wearing the ouchless headband.

How can I make a wash and go look cute/decent in the morning after washing it at night???

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :whyme:
 I wanna cut all my hair off!!!!!!!!!!

There's an article about this in the latest Jet Magazine and immediately I thought of this thread!

Did you all know that 80% of black women in the United States are either overweight of obese??? Thats according to the Jet mag...not my words.

I always rinse my hair after working out. I have no choice because I sweat like there's no tomorrow. I usually use nexxus ensure which helps to keep the tangles away, moisterize, then I let it dry in a bun (well its a little ghetto bun but still... ) I don't worry too much about cute styles really. Lately though I've taken to braiding my hair after I rinse it out and letting it dry that way. Then I put a cute scarf on my head and go. Honeycomb has some really cute scarves and that spurred me to get some.

As long as I don't have to worry about seeing new clients its all good . Here lately the only time I really do my hair is when I have to see a new client or close a deal. Otherwise, are you kidding?

I'm hoping to learn to french braid because right now all I can do is individuals braids and twists so that I can braid it and just leave it that way for a few days.

Im glad I found this thread. Ive been working out a lot lately, and I think twistout or braidouts will be the way to go. I need something with little manipulation. I dont wash everyday, but I will rinse one day and shampoo the next day(diluted shampoo). What do you guys think? But my twistouts are always so dang dry!! Whats up with that???

I'm new to the boards and glad I found this thread (and some helpful tips from you ladies). I have a problem with working out... I work out before work 5am-6:30 and just don't have enough time to co-wash (or poo) my hair, dry it and style it... so my plan is to get tree braids (if that doesn't work then just corn rows w/ synth. hair) to help. I have been working out 2-3 mornings before work and then doing a hard core cardio workout on weekends. I have noticed more hair on the bathroom floor than I would like to see.

I am on week 9 of my phyto relaxer and have tried doing the co wash after the gym, then putting in a leave-in cond. and putting it up in a phony pony, but I think that would eventually cause damage to my hair, especially where the comb is...

I really need to lose weight and the fact that I mad going to the gym a habit, I hate to be bald and skinny, or fatter with good hair... whats a girl to do :)

Okay, so the hair on your bathroom floor, is it broken hairs or little shed hairs? Breaking hair (short pieces of hair) indicate that you probably need some kind of protein. Shed hairs, I would say more moisture but some people just shed really bad anyway.(Like myself:perplexed )

Ahhh thank you for that note... the hair I am finding is long hair, the whole hair from the scalp (I can see the regrowth curl pattern). I stopped using the aphogee green tea leave- in 2 weeks ago (thinking I was probably putting too much protein)... I will try to pre poo, and then co wash until I get my hair braided...

Thank you again :D

I sometimes put conditioner on my hair, put a plastic cap on and then a scarf over that before my cardio workouts. Its almost a deep conditioning treatment that saves time too!

Hey Poohbear,

I had the same problem from conditioner washing. I learned that I have to alternate the type of conditioner used. I make sure that half of the time I use a moisturizing conditioner and the other half I use a medium/heavy protien conditioner followed by a moisturizing conditioner. I always end with an ACV rinse. This really helps me to maintain a great moisture/protien balance. Anytime my hair sways too far in one direction I correct it with the appropriate treatment. I like to use ORS hair mayonaise as my "regular medium mild protien" and UBH as my "medium strong protien" I only have to use the UBH once every 4-6 weeks. I use the ORS hair mayo once per week. My moisturizing conditioner is VO5 strawberries and cream and I kinda like Silk Elements conditioner (with glycerine and olive oil added).

You're welcome;)

I just found this incredible thread!! I started wearing braids because of PP hair loss and then working out! With braids it was a no brainer, but now I took my braids out, I had to relax because I knew the multiple workouts per week would be the death of me natrual. So we shall see how I handle this.

I ran today (with my phony pony on) and did a cowash. I don't like doing the wet bun thing yet, I'm sure I will soon enough. I do have an ion hood dryer with multiple settings so I can sit under there on low on the weekends after my deep conditioners... I not sure yet what I'm going to do during the week. I don't like to go to bed with wet hair or to work with wet hair. So we'll see.

I haven't had a chance to read through the entire thread but this is the story of my life, my hair and my workouts!!

Great stuff ladies, I can't keep my butt off this site!!

Hugs to everyone!

Janet

That's a good idea for my @ home workouts on the T-mill... Thanks for posting that one.

Recommend Post Workout Leave-in Conditioner

I used to use Sebastain's Wet as a gel for post workout leave in. Prolly not the best for moisture though. What do the workout warriors recommend?

Bump for suggestions please or should I post in separate thread?

Any suggestions for someone who works out 4-5 a week. My hair is short and I only wash my hair once a week. Should I be washing it more often. I am a busy working mother of two kids. I am surprise I still can get to the gym, but I am a gym maniac!! But I want long hair. I have a relaxer, I was natural but my hair was too dry and coarsed to handle. Any product suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Ladies, please keep working out!!

I know that sounds like a high percentage but I believe it. The white women can't be that far behind.

I love this thread!:D I am currently working out 4 times a week and am natural. My question is for everyone though. Does your cleansing routine change as the weather gets colder? I mean I don't mind having a wet head in the summer but I live in England and it's just too freaking cold to be walking around here like that 4 times a week. I was thinking of switching my workouts to the evenings so when I did rinse or wash I could just twist it up and let it dry overnight. What is everyone else doing these days?
