I ran into a stylist at the BSS today

and she told me that I need to use a wide tooth comb when I was showing my cousin this diagram on the back of a rubber comb I was buying

I was trying to tell him how the seams will rip the hair and cause split ends. When she told me that I said that I actually use a brush to detangle and she was like "A brush?!:perplexed

"Yes. A denman brush," I said.

Her: :perplexed

She didn't say anything else to me just started talking about products loudly with the clerk as she walked out of the door. It was a weird little encounter and she claimed that she was natural "too" but was wearing a full head weave so I don't know what her hair looked like. My hair was beautifully coily thanks to Ecostyler crystal and I new found old favorite curl refresher/moisturizer.

Has anybody else randomly got into it with a stylist?

^^^^My hair is APL and I never use a comb except when I am parting for braids. The denman brush is the best thing for my hair.

I got into it with one of those stylists that hand you a card and tell you that they can"fix your hair." I told him "my hair isn't broken. Its natural- unrelaxed. Its SUPPOSED to have coild and knaps." He then told me I would never get a man that way (I'm married) and that I'd probably lose my job (got hired in a twist out pulled back). I told him that I find that offensive. He insisted he could help me to be pretty. I told him I had work to do. He called me something my mother did not name me. I threw him out of the store. My boss clapped.

The end.

He had a lot of darn nerve!:nono:

Good for you! I’m always surprised at how rude some people can be and those who always seem to offer advice even when you haven't asked for their opinion.

I think if it works for you then continue doing what you do. We all have different heads of hair and what does not work for one person will work for someone else.

She sure had some nerve...the more we learn about our hair the more threatened hair stylist will be.

I too love my dennman brush. The longer I transistion the better it works. I'm beginning to hate any comb other than my Jilbre and I only use that in the shower.

You can see my hair in my siggy and I love my denmam brush too. METHOD is important. I use my Jilbre widetooth comb in the shower. I really dont use combs much at all other than that. The denman detangles like a dream. People often speak on what they don't know. Keep doing what works for you O.P.!!!

Oh yes and I love it!

Like when I told a stylist that I wanted my hair washed with conditioner instead of shampoo and got the following response "so your hair can be all greasy when I blow dry it?" Needless to say this did not happen to which my friend commented after the process completed "does this look greasy to you?" - lesson learned.

The times I've attempted transitioning the Denman worked well for me. Actually, when I have a lot of new growth too. Other than that I use a wide tooth comb to detangle my relaxed hair.

I had question a stylist about dusting my ends. HER RESPONSE,Only white people do that.(WHAT) Happy Hair Growing!

Stylists/beauticians/hairdressers...what ever you choose to call them have not yet met educational institutions which teach them how to care for hair except to style it and cut it so healthy hair care is still a mystery to them. Intimidated her that you have the knowledge.

I had an encounter with a beautician yesterday. You should have seen her face twist up when my friends were telling her that I don't use shampoo. She was nice enough to ask what is your reason for this and I explained most shampoos have SLS in it and for my hair it makes it hard especially being in it's natural state and conditioner has enough of a cleansing agent to do the job without stripping my hair.

Of course my friend said, see touch her hair and see how soft it is. I took one for the team ya'll just to enlighten her. She didn't say much after that, but I added, this has worked for me and I have just about everyone one of the ladies in my family only using the cowash method and our hair is in a much better state.

This was a person who had locks that were BSL.

I had a stylist with questionable looking hair speak against my hair care methods. Not to be disrespectful, but her hair was dry, damaged, and jagged. She told me that I use too much water on my hair. Odd, considering that my hair was mid back then and is now even longer. I simply looked at her hair and then at my own and kept it moving. The proof is in the hair
