Ladies, Im so frustated!..I tried the twistout this weekend it came out...well..OK....I washed my hair used the NTM as a leave in...then I used the IC with sparklites and did a flat twist and twist it out. I went to a cookout...It was soooo hot...I ended up with an afro....I looked a hot mess!!!

The samething happened when I took the time to flat iron my hair I used Frizz ease and NTM leave in and ended up with another afro....

What am I doing wrong?

This is the situation many of us are facing, especially this summer!

It sounds like you did the right thing by wearing a style like a twistout that works with humidity. What helps me (not 100% though) is to apply Aveda Anti-Humectant on my damp hair after applying a leave-in. It seals in the moisture but doesn't let outside moisture revert the hair too much.
If wearing my hair out, I wear a braidout but sometimes it can look like a big afro too, a controlled afro. Afros can be cute too!

Lala, who also has 4a hair, said she uses a very good product to keep her hair sleek during humidity. I just forgot the product, I'll see if I can find her comment. I want to try it also.

Hi Isis where can I find the Aveda ....Its not sold in most beauty supply places is it....? My air is just so difficult. My daughter is 13 . she wraps here hair all the time.. She just sprays it with oil sheen and wrap. Her hair doesnt get all puffy....I try that and by the middle of the day I have a puffy mess....!

I had a similar problem. I bought AG Re:coil and it worked wonders!!! There's a pic of it in my album. I apply it to my hair, use gel on my edges, I wear a headband to work to flatten it. I take off my head band in the elevator at work and my hair stays slicked back all day. No puffyness!

brinasia, i was just out looking today for that aveda antihumectant pomade, i heard good things about it,too. I didn't look too hard, though, cuz i know it's very pricey! But i will probabley pick it up soon because i'm having the same problems with this high humidity when i wear my hair out.

I agree with Isis, the Aveda Anti-Humectant Pomade works well. I alternate between using that and using Aveda Brilliant Emollient Finishing Gloss on wet hair after applying a leave-in conditioner. I used to use the finishing gloss after blow drying but since trying it on wet hair, it has definitely helped my hair from reverting in the humidity we're having.

 Sista you should embrace your afro during this time of the year.
My twist out last longer if I wear them for a week then take them out. I usually do a water rinse and apply IC clear gel. I don't fingercomb or anything.

Brinasia, your thread had me laughing so hard! The exact same thing happened to me yesterday. My braid-out looked fierce up until the moment I walked out the door. By the time I got to work, I had that afro thing working and I know it's all about the humidity.

Guess I'll look for the Aveda pomade too.

Humidity can wreck just about any hairstyle. My head sweats, so that causes my hair to puff up sometimes too. To deal with it, I've just been wearing my hair back in a bun, especially since I'm stretching. It's hard for me to wear my hair down (without the use of heat) when it's hot and humid outside; it just won't work.
